Okee doke.
Encinitas, I’m more partial to Casa de Bandini as well.
So how about this:
Casa de Bandini
San Juan St. in Old Town
Time: 8:00 pm
Date: Saturday, April 27th
Esprix, that way you could drop on by after your other thing.
How’s that?

I’m in! scout1222, should we get a reservation? And under what name?
I just called them up. They don’t take reservations on Friday-Sundays. It’ll be first come, first served.
So scout1222, the plan is that you are going to pickup eonwe at the Old Town Coaster Station and then link up with esprix and I at the restaurant at about 8pm?
esprix you up for this? Meet out front about 8pm, This coming Saturday?
Probably more like 8:30 for me, so you guys just go ahead and get a table - I know what y’all look like.
Esprix
I can do that. Eonwe, if you get yourself to the Old Town Trolley Station, we can walk to the restaurant from there. (It’s probably 3 blocks? I’ll check the map)
I’ll drive over and park at the trolley station myself. Parking will be tight by then, so I don’t even think I’m going to bother trying to get a spot IN Old Town.
I would have loved to join you all, but I’ll have a houseful of my husband’s family next weekend. And not all of them are ones I like. Have a wonderful time! And Eonwe, I hope you enjoy your visit in San Diego. There’s something I find interesting right outside the Casa de Bandini: cork trees.
Well, I think it’s interesting!
Cool. So, to recap:
Tomorrow (Saturday) I’ll take the trolley to the Old Town Trolley Station at… 8 PM? I think I’ll target something like quarter of 8. I’ll meet scout1222 and we’ll go from there to Casa de Bandini?
Will the trolley station be very busy? How’ll we recognise each other scout? I’m not all that unique looking. When we had a dopefest in Boston we all wore tin foil hats, but there’s a voice that’s telling me that might not be a good idea. Well, I’ll be the lost looking person at any rate.
See you all tomorrow!
FYI, a little-known scenic treasure in SD is the Cabrillo National Monument.
Check it out.
I’ll be looking for you both out front of the restaurant. Eonwe, bring an appetite!
Eonwe: in case you check the boards, that is!
I have brown curly hair (down to mid-back level) and I wear glasses. Other than that I’m pretty average description.
I’m thinking 7:45 would be good, so that’s when I’ll plan to be there.
I’m envisioning the awkward moment when two lost looking people fumble up to each other to say hi…
Actually, here’s a picture of me from the Farrell’s Fest:

I’m the girl in the picture. Duh.
I am an idiot. Never never never have I missed a flight before, and I chose this morning to do just that.
Instead of boarding a plane in Newark right now to fly to San Diego, I’m at the University of Vermont computer lab kicking myself for my stupidity. Don’t know why I chose last night to not set my alarm, but anyway…
I’ve got a new flight which will put me in San Diego at 7:30 PM. Even though my hotel is pretty close to the airport (so they say), I highly doubt I’ll be able to make a 7:45 meeting.
Can anyone help me figure out time here? I figure the flight will be on time (all weather looks decent), and it’ll take me 1/2 an hour to get to the hotel from the airport. I will need zero time to get ready, I’ll just catch the trolly as soon as I dump my stuff in my room.
I hope this doesn’t throw too much of a wrench into things. I feel like such an idiot. At least they didn’t charge me for changing my flight around.
One plus to all this is I get to be on the Straight Dope for the next 3 hours or so without having to be pretending to work at the same time.
Oh, and Scout, actually, I thought you were a guy. No offense taken I hope. The boards are funny that way.
Hi Scout, since our fly-boy will be late, I think I will look for you at the Trolley Station. Safety in numbers. I sure hope we can pull this thing off.
Bad news - looks like my plans have shifted, and it looks doubtful I’ll be able to make it, even much later.
I’ll have to catch you next time, Eonwe. Sorry about that…

An update for those of you following the adventures of Eonwe in beautiful San Diego. Yes, he missed his flight but caught a later one and managed to arrive at the rendesvous with Scout1222 and myself only a half hour late. We repaired to the Casa de Bandini for dinner and were informed that there was an hour and 15 min. wait! Wait we did in the lounge drinking a round of huge margaritas and eating gucamole and chips. By the time we were seated at our table we were all very full so we just picked at our dinners. ::sigh:: Around 10pm we all started to fade (Scout1222 and I because we are old farts and Eonwe because he was still on East Coast time. We walked Scout1222 to her car and I dropped our guest at his hotel.
Today I plan to take him to a very good SciFi and Mystery bookstore called Mysterious Galaxy and then maybe some dim sum for lunch.
Esprix if you are reading this, Eonwe would still like to meet you. He is hoping to meet some famous Straight Dope posters (can’t imagine why he would put you in that category). He is in town till Thursday but is busy during the day. He is available for dinner etc. on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you want to get in touch with him I have his hotel information.
Yeah, and good times were had by all. I’m on a little internet kiosk here at the hotel, just checking up on e-mail and the dope.
Yeah, Esprix, I’m bummed you couldn’t make it. I was looking forward to meeting a West Coast UU!
Ah well. As Encinitas said, I’ve got evenings free if you (or anyone else) feels like entertaining me. I hate eating dinner in a strange town alone.
I just checked my schedule and I was wrong… Tuesday night is the night that I’m busy, but Mon and Wed are free.
Tuesday and Wednesday don’t work, and I have to check on Monday. Argh. (Spent the day today at Disneyland! Woo hoo!)
Esprix
Ooh, Disneyland! Exciting!
Well, if you do find the time to do anything this evening, just post, or e-mail, or whatever.
I’d just like to say that this past weekend it snowed back home, while I was getting tanned in the very very nice weather here. Sometimes life works out in my favor. Yeah.
