I'm going to see the Police. In...Montréal!!!

And I’m so excited I could almost pee my pants.

Synchronicity was the first album that I ever got (and yes, it was an album). When I found out the Police were actually going to go on a tour I immediately decided that I had, Had, HAD to go.

However, they’re not playing in my city, so that meant that I was going to have to travel somewhere. So - where to go? Edmonton? Uh, no thanks. Vancouver? Well, it’s ok, but the dates aren’t super. TO? Meh. Now, Montréal - THAT’S a city.

I haven’t been there since I saw Michael Jackson at the Big “O” (which is no longer an O, I believe) in 1984.

I somehow, possibly involving a pact with the devil, managed to get tickets. Really, really GOOD tickets. There’s every reason to think that my girlfriend and I may actually get sprayed with Sting’s sweat.

So, I need to book a couple of flights, a hotel room and a puppy sitter and I’m THERE!

Now - Montréal Dopers - I’m going to be there with my lovely friend arriving on July 25th, seeing the concert on July 26th and hanging out checking out Montréal on the 27th, 28th, 29th, leaving on the 30th. If anyone has some suggestions for places that we HAVE to go, that would be great - I haven’t been there really hardcore since I lived there when I was 9. For those of you who haven’t been following along, that was a long, long time ago.

GAH!!! I’m so friggin’ excited. I wonder if Sting will be my pretend boyfriend for the evening…

You’ll be here for the tail end of the Just for Laughs festival… I haven’t looked over the website, but there’s an add saying english programming will be from July 12-22, but the festival itself is from the 8-29th. http://www.hahaha.com/comedy-year-round.html

I love just wandering downtown, or up the Main, or on Mont-Royal and shop or stop at a terrasse and have a bite to eat or drink. The Old Port is a beautiful place to visit too. Summer time in Montreal has so much going on!

You’ll also be here in time for the International des Feux - the fireworks at La Ronde! Spend the day at the amusement park and watch the show; it really is an amazing set of fireworks. You’ll be able to catch Germany on the day you arrive, and/or the park’s own display on the 28th. العاب تركيب الصور

Here’s a list of festivals going on this summer: montreal.com

I guess it all depends on what kinds of things you want to do. Maybe we could have a Dopefest while you’re here!

Thank you so much for all the links! That’s great - I’ll have to talk to Vic and she what she’s interested in - she’s never been to Montréal at all, so she might have somethings on her list too.

I don’t know if I could do a full blow dopefest, but a lunch or dinner or something would be awesome!

There’s an idea!

Oh, and it case it’s not obvious, Vic and I are gonna have to do some shopping while we’re there too.

Just saw this. I’m going to Just for Laughs this year - I might be there while you are.

alice_in_wonderland: No matter what I do… I’m still jealous of you…!

Sorry - the first thing that sprang to my mind was “You bitch, you bitch - you fucking bitch!” Nothing personal - just an audience participation line from my Rocky Horror days.

I think my husband would whore himself out for Police tickets! The closest they’ll get to us is Auburn Hills, and I would go even if we had to get cheap seats. Hmmm … time to start stalking TicketMaster!

Montreal is such an awesome place to be in the summer. I don’t do touristy stuff (for obvious reasons), and I’m not even a usual attendee of the festivals, but just walking down Ste. Catherine on a summer’s night… I love it.

Victoria’s hubby almost shit himself when I told him what her B-day present was going to be this year. Poor sot is stuck home with the kids while she and I whoop it up.

It’s dumb how excited I am.

It’s not dumb, it’s adorable, Alice. Synchronicity was one of the first albums I really loved, though my fickle junior high affections eventually shifted from Sting to Robert Smith. (Don’t tell me you’ve also gotten great tickets to Cure concerts. Just don’t.)

Anyway, it sounds like a blast.

You know, I don’t live that far from Montreal, so you and your girlfriend could just come down and visit little ol’ me. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll only charge $25 a night to sleep on my couch!
(And Eonwe is like four block away as well (although we’ve never actually seen each other in any place other than Montreal, believe it or not…), so it’s like a 2 for 1 deal!)

Oh, you mean the band. I read the thread title and thought, “What did she get herself into this time?”

I can see the Police in any city I want, whenever I want.

All I need is a plate glass window & some cinderblocks.

Then I’ll see Police, see if I don’t, by cracky!

:dubious:

I first saw the Police some time in the first quarter of 1977, supporting a rather amazing (as in - amazingly awful) American woman called Cherry Vanilla, at the Nashville Rooms, a pub in West Kensington (immediately to the right of the Underground station). Apart from the awfulness of Ms Vanilla, the only thing I can only remember about the night was being pestered by a very drunk French woman. I do recall, however, that they were dressed as New York police officers - thruppenny bit hats and that. They played a set of their own and then returned to back the aforesaid Ms Vanilla.

I saw them again at about Christmastime the same year; they hadn’t gone up in my estimation. I doubt, therefore, whether I will bother should they ever play in London again (obviously somewhere rather larger than the Nashville Rooms).

Don’t get me started on how awful U2 were in December 1979 . . .

Well, I didn’t get tickets that are THAT good, but I did hie myself to my local Marsh Supermarket and buy seats for the show in Auburn Hills for me and my hubby! They were about $100 each, and part of that was off-set by my mother-in-law. She’s so cool about stuff like that. Now to keep the secret … it’s gonna be tough!

I just checked the seating chart on-line, and we’re in section 120, row A, seats 1&2. So we’re as close to the floor as you can get without being ON the floor. That means we’ll have a slightly higher line of sight and less chance of being blocked by yahoos in front of us. Yay me!

I’m going to be in Montréal for MeKaRo (on the weekend of the 19th of May), as well as at the end of March. I was hoping the dates would coincide, but oh well.

Congratulations and have fun!
