I'm late, I'm late! (a late MMP from Spain)

Great OP, Nava! Good luck with the job! Hope you can get your closets back in proper shape.

I have to go to the post office this morning to mail a couple of books for PaperBackSwap, then on to Hobby Lobby for clay and beads. I will not spend over $20! I promise!

Mr. SCL is working tonight, so he will be sleeping all day. That means I must tip-toe around the house all day. I got the Halloween punkins (fake ones with cool fire looking lights in them) in the front windows last night. The real ones will come later in the month.

DB - I know you’ll be glad to see the Fed-Ex guy but doing a happy dance in your skivvies will probably cause him to give you funny looks. Maggie might give you funny looks, too. My Maggie gives me funny looks for no reason at all.

It is cool and cloudy here - I need to go put the doors on the Wrangler as we may have rain later. Hope everyone has a great day!

Nah, I already have a gecko at home, so they figure I’m covered.

I’m all set, and here I am.

I’m not a man-type, but my husband is. He uses a Norelco electric razor. It has 5822-XL on the handle part. It works very well, provided he keeps it clean. You have to take the head off and rinse clean it every so often, and the whole head thing comes apart for thorough cleaning. He’s had to purchase a new set of blades twice, but he has a very heavy beard.

Nava - great stuff! My weekend wasn’t nearly as action-packed, and congrats on the new job in A Country To Be Named Later. (It’s Pongo-Pongo, isn’t it? ISN’T IT!? :stuck_out_tongue: )

Okay. I don’t mean to sound too much like an excited schoolboy - but cute girl and I are officially going out to dinner Thursday night. I can barely sit still.

This is going to be fantastic. Anyway. Here’s today’s pun. I know for certain I haven’t posted this already. Heh.

Oh, razor. Hang on, lemme check… It’s a Norelco 5822 XL. The same one as BiblioCat’s husband. Probably cost about $15. I’ve had it for years and it works just fine.

Did I mention I’m incredibly excited? For those of you who know the song, Cake’s “Short skirt, long jacket” sums up my mood perfectly right now. For those of you who don’t know the song, a snippet that in no way violates copyright:

With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack
She’s touring the facilities and picking up the slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long, long jacket

Oh boy, Spats is in wuv! And in your honor, Spats, Spats and Cute Girl sittin’ in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G… Yeah, it’s childish of me, but it’s a tried-and-true verse, right?

I decided that my next sewing tool that I need RIGHT NOW is a serger. Don’t ask my why I couldn’t wait for it till Christmas. But I just (ulp!) placed a bid for one on eBay. So we shall see. If I win, it’s a machine that was set up and used exactly once, comes complete with all manuals and attachments, even its original box, and I can get it for less than half the price of a new one. Plus it’s a slightly older model so probably was actually made out of metal instead of plastic as so many new machines are (even the frighteningly expensive ones). I’m not sure if I want to win the auction or not, but I guess I’m committed now!

When I get home I will check on my SO’s razor. Also later if I have time I’ll update you on my future SIL, she’s pregnant and in the hospital - but it’s OK! - she just has a low placenta and started bleeding last week, so they put her in. But she’s fine and she’s now bored out of her mind. Her baby shower was this weekend and she had to miss it. We debated and debated but decided to hold it anyway since everyone had already bought gifts, etc…it went as well as it could under the circumstances. Her husband put on the cute little hat and everything, it was cute.

What do you call your husband’s sister-in-law anyway? Is she my SIL, too? English doesn’t have enough words for relations. In Hindi she’d be my Jhetani as she’s the wife of the older brother.

They got lots of nice gifts, we gave a combination shower & baby gift in the form of a color baby monitor…it’s really sweet.

Well, I guess I just updated you after all!

Great OP, Nava! I hope you get the job in A Country.

Today did not start out well. I left the house at 6:29 am. I did not arrive to work until 8:45 am. Why? Because there was a fatality accident on I-5 one exit before mine. This caused traffic to be backed up all the way up Hwy 512 and then I-5, which is my route to work. A pedestrian tried to cross I-5 and was struck by TWO cars. Why he was trying to walk across I-5 is beyond me. At any rate, my 30 minute morning commute became a two hour and 1

Arrrgh! I did not mean to hit submit!

to continue…My commute became a two hour and 15 minute commute.

The weekend was good, although busy.

I should do some work now. I’ll try to pop in later.

Oh, I expect there’s quite a bit of operator error going on with a 90-year-old guy who can’t remember much from one day to the next but I’ve tried shaving him myself with the new on and it really doesn’t work very well.

Looks like two votes for the Norelco 5822 XL. I will go take a look at them. $15 sounds like right up my alley.

Great OP, nava. I visited Mom this weekend too, but I was at her house so no opportunity for her to rearrange my closets. (She’s very good about not doing that though.)

Anyway, I got to and from southern PA just fine. It really was pretty easy to fly directly to a major airport and then drive 2 1/2 hours instead of having a layover somewhere and flying to the closer but much smaller airport. So I think that’s going to be the way we’ll do it from now on.

Parents’ new house is good. They’re in a retirement community, and it’s really just like going away to college except without the homework. They’re meeting all these new friends
and sometimes they eat “on campus” which isn’t exactly the same as a dining hall - much much nicer - but still felt very collegiate. So they’re having fun.

I think I found a place to get the quilt we’ve been talking about getting for months. I really don’t like store-bought bedroom sets, and I’ve just been wanting a hand made quilt. So as we were driving around on Sat. in the Amish Country, we found a sign for quilts and checked them out. They’re just beautiful. Hopefully Mom’s going to send me pictures (KeithT wouldn’t let me buy one without seeing pix first!) and then I’ll post them for everyone to see. They aren’t cheap, but they aren’t going to go out of style like most things that I’d buy in the store. So it’s worth it. Plus the detail work is just amazing. I’m excited.

And now 3 zillion things are going wrong at work. Wheee!

My weekend was pretty uneventful, except for the 911 call, and ambulance ride for tearing off the end of my finger in a car door last night.
Hubby’s brother and his wife left for Indonesia last night. Hubby was working so I drove them, in their car, to the airport.
The driver’s side door latch/lock is broken, I guess someone tried to break into the car last week.
It was dark, the car was unfamiliar, and it bit off my finger. I pulled away, reflexively, and tore the entire pad of my right ring finger off. I came into the house, bleeding all over everything, wrapped my hand in a towel, and called 911. Then I called Hubby at work.
The fire guys arrived first and bandaged me up, then had to search the car for the missing piece.
The ambulance monkeys arrived about then and we took a ride.
At the ER they debated sewing it back on, until the doc unwrapped it and looked at it. Then she decided the choices were sewing it on, with a slim hope of it reattatching, or go straight to a graft.
It probably won’t reattach, but it will protect it for a couple days until I can get a skin graft.

If this sounds a little disjointed ( no pun intended), it’s because I’m taking percoset.
Bye for now, I’m going back to hide under the covers.

Can you guys - anyone - post in my thread?

Poor man

Anything will be appreciated, thanks.
picu, yuck. Hope you’re OK.

OW! OW OW OW OW OW!

Oh, picu, how awful! I feel for you – good luck with it!

And just out of curiosity, does this mean you no longer have a fingerprint on that finger?

Good luck in A Country, nava!

I’ve got less junk today than I did yesterday. Skunk and Keisha were very happy this morning and were sprawled across the living room when I left. Next on my to do list is furniture. I need another bookcase or two, something to sit on in the living room, a computer desk, a couple of dining chairs, and a new bed. My box springs’ springs are sticking out and I’ve gotten some nasty cuts on my leg, one of which left an ugly scar. It’s a good thing I got my tetanus shot this year! Definitely time for a new bed.

I finally signed up for DSL, and it will be activated on Friday. Yay! No more dial up.

On preview, picu, to second Mama Tiger, OW! OW OW OW OW OW!

Poor picunurse! Hope you’re feeling better. Those percocets are nice, aren’t they?

Although I do take issue with the phrase ‘ambulance monkey.’ :dubious:

Oooh, good luck with the job, Nava–and I’m sorry about the Mother. I don’t have a mother like that (thanks be to all that is holy), but I know many people who do.

Ouch, Picu! Enjoy the percocet. I really did.

I made it to work today without my ass donut. I think that’s progress. I’m still uncomfortable, but it can’t really be called pain. At least the idea of driving up to Maine by myself in two weeks isn’t looking insurmountable anymore.

This weekend, I went shopping. Lots of shopping. Between Kohl’s, Target, the grocery store, and Best Buy, I spent … over a thousand dollars. BUT–I finally found the boots I’ve been searching for for over three years. I bought them in black and brown.

Picu, poor baby! OwOwOw! I cringed just reading that!

I only spent <$13 at Hobby Lobby! There is something wrong with the world this Halloween season - there are hardly any black cat decorations. How can you decorate for Halloween without black cat decorations?

There was a huge line at the post office, which is very unusual. I was lucky and got in line behind two ladies with the same warped sense of humor I have - we spent the wait snerking at the woman in full makeup and a nightgown. At least it looked like a nightgown to us.

Off to play with new clay!

Picu:  :faints:

Aw geeze, picu, I’m still wincing after reading that! Holy cow!

Today I’m going to meet my newest great-nephew for the first time. He was born a few weeks ago. We’re going to bring him a little outfit or something and see where his dad and mother have newly set up house.

You know, I’m seriously thinking about going to the doctor to get a prescription for sleep medication. I’ve never been a deep sleeper, and I’ve never really slept completely through the night. However, this last year has been hell on me sleep-wise. I cannot get caught up and the effects are definitely catching up with me. I am having a difficult time staying focused on any one thing for too long. Or, if I do manage to stay focused, it is with extreme difficulty. I feel like like I’m in a fog, most of the time. This is not good.

Off to cruise the Dope for the rest of my lunch, then back to the drudgery.

::Reads picu’s post. Faints::

No, seriously. I could probably watch one of my bone’s being set without losing it but injury to one of my finger pads??? YAAGH!! I just get the heebie-jeebies thinking about it. Poor picu.
