I'm pitting the woman at a town hall who yelled "Heil Hitler" at a Jew.

So you can tell which one’s Gretchen Carlson because she’s stamped “Idaho”?

Can we get back to yelling “heil Hitler” at the Jews, please?

“The number of people who clamor about death panels may be small…” I should have said the number of people who clamor about it insanely at town hall meetings.

Edit: Sorry. Heil Hitler!

If it’s such a fringe, then why are the whackjobs always backed up by the full throated cheering of the rest of the room when they call Obama Hitler or say he was born in Kenya?

The most prominent deather was the Republican Candidate for Vice President of the United States less than a year ago. Is she fringe or is she mainstream.

I have noticed that Fox News tends not to show the more demented clips from the Town Hall screamers. last night they were showing clips from the Barney Frank meeting where a crazy woman with a sign depicting Obama with a Hitler mustache asked Frank why he supported “nazi policies.” They were trying to portray the meeting as Frank confronting an angry public, but they very carefully did not show the Hitler lady, nor did they show a single clip of Barney Frank talking at all. If the answers to the questions are so important, then why is Fox News so uninterested in showing the answers?

Fox News really has just gone completely into the wingnut tank lately.

I believe that about 30% of each party–about 15% of the voting population–is just wholly unreasonable. They’re racists, or astrologists, or just ordinary crazy. So I don’t think it means much to document cases of political insanity. I could be persuaded that because of various factors, at this moment in political history, there are marginally more crazies on the right. But so what? Why is that some important conclusion?

To me, the more interesting question is whether and how the party responds to its insane third. This is a slippery question to answer, because the Republicans have no leader. If we pick Palin or Limbaugh, we can clearly show that the party is arguing about health care in complete bad faith.

So my question is this: who do Republicans hold out as the honest debater on their side? Which prominent member of the party leadership is the one debating in good faith?

I hate to bring in another element, but people who declaim that these wackos do not represent their party are very much like Christians (or other religious folk) who loudly deny that wacky fundamentalists do not represent the Awesomeness that is their religion.

Like it or not, folks, YES THEY DO.

Or hell, just watch The Daily Show. All the episodes are readily available online, and the coverage of the media coverage of the town halls has been going on for the last week or so. They’ve happily documented the crazy for you already.

Sometimes less is more. Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s Eve? Thou art more douchey and disposable…

Also highly recommended, although I can’t recall which show it was: a segment of clips showing Glenn Beck doing a full 180 on the state of American health care. Railing angrily over his perceived mistreatment in a system that he felt was designed to cycle patients in and out the door as quickly as possible, and then a few months later (coinciding with his move from CNN to Fox News) insisting that we *already *have the best health care system in the world, and that it merely needs to be preserved as-is.

Whoever researches and and produces those video montages for TDS deserves a Nobel Prize.

I think it’s because Hitler had (or wanted to develop) a socialized system of health care (pretty sure it wasn’t universal, though!). My husband and I have been having fun with this: You know what else Hitler had? Roads! Nazi roads! DOWN WITH THE NAZI ROADS! We’re bored.

Voldemort?

It’s okay, he’s dead, you can say his name. Vol-de-mort.

Germany has had UHC for something like 126 years, going back to the Health Insurance Bill of 1883 under Otto von Bismarck.

You’re going to Gehennom in a handbasket.

Not only that, but the government controlled traffic with lights telling people when they could drive their own cars and when they had to stop.

In Nazi Germany, Hitler had a program where water was sent into peoples’ homes very inexpensively via a series of tubes (cough) connecting every home to one “government approved” water source.

My new favorite blog: Obama is literally Hitler.

Of course Republicans are afraid we’ll become Nazis. Nazis killed the mentally retarded. If we go down that road, there will be no Republicans left. :frowning:

Bill ORlly just played the video of the woman asking Barney Frank about his nazi policy, and then immediately showed a later question where someone asked some nonsense question about Iraq that Frank also made a joke about.

So Billo says something to the tune of “Frank likes to make jokes about serious questions,” and then brings Dick Morris on to talk about how people are furious over healthcare reform. Then, Bill brought out another guest, Lucifer, the Morning Star, and spent 9 minutes fellating him.

Because the rational and sane conservatives asked questions Barney Frank probably answered without batting an eye. It’s only because Barney Frank called someone an idiot that it made news.

OMG. That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages.
