"I'm Too Busy To Play This" Mafia

I want you in the game. Listen, you sign up, you play, you vote, you contribute, and you are not right 100 percent of the time and you’re not wrong 100 percent of the time.

As such, regardless of a couple of townie losses, you’re not even close to being a bad player. Please reconsider playing.

Remember how much **I **sucked in De’endee? And I’m considered good, by some people somewhere…

Update on the game design process-

Well, I created the villain and the main premise, and I’m working on the mind-bending twist(s). I have a general idea of how I want to play the remainder of the design. The laborious task of writing role PMs will be the last step and frankly, the one I’m least looking forward to for this one. Creating the roles is fun, the tedium is making 30 long detailed role PMs that make sense and tell you everything you need to know and also look spiffy for when I post them all after the game.

As I state in every complicated game I host, at the end of the day, it’s a mafia game. Town wins when the mafia are dead. Everything else is just bells and whistles.

I liked playing with you last time - even if you were suspicious of me for the whole game  You were a high effort poster and did a lot to keep people talking, so definitely a plus for town.

All righty guys, thank you! I’m in. Helps that I’ve recently lost a client so I’ll have some time free until I wrangle a new one.

This shoudl be interesting. God knows I could barely understand the last game and it was allegedly intended for newbies! I can’t even fathom what an pizzaguy game will look like. Scary!

But seriously, thanks for alll the encouragement… Just as long as y’all realize I’m dooming all of us to an ugly, vicious death. (It’ll be interesting to see if the curse that’s upon me is restricted to Town only, or if, assuming I’m on the Scum side, it’ll follow me to the dark side and polish my teammates off there, too. Is it a Town-based curse, or just a whichever-side-choie-plays-on-based curse? Only time will tell!)

And for realsies, I’m totally not kidding with that pre-vote. Town, SK, Scum, I don’t care – if we’re on different sides I am so gonna focus on getting that rat-bastid swinging in the wind. Hell, I might go after him even if we’re Masons or Lovers. I’ll seriously go kamikaze if necessary.

Pizza, any idea what sort of timeframe we’re looking at to get this going?

Not trying to rush you, but I just had one game end rather suddenly and was unexpectedly Night-killed in another, so I have some free time…

AARGH Choie, you frighten the life out of me no matter which side I am on.

I am so happy to see you again, I might improve my game.

This is shaping up to be a killer game! I like all of you guys, this’ll be a blast.

Killer? Blast?

Famous last words.

Obviously Astral is trying to breadcrumb the fact that he’s a Mad Bomber.

Okay, looking good.

We still need a good 7 more players or so. You want this game to have depth and be engaging, I don’t want it to be effectively over in a few rounds unless the town kicks serious booty right away.

Suburban- I’m very active in working on the design, but what will light a fire under my ass like no other event, is getting 25 players or so. If sign-ups stop cold and I have to work with less, that’s fine but as long as I get a sign-up here and there and my game isn’t finished being designed, I’ll be giving it more time.

I’d like to have sign-ups full within a week and be ready to start shortly after that.

I am a little worried I have set the bar too high in the insanity category. You guys seem to have had some nutty games and roles and setups before. But I shall do my best… and I hope you guys bring your best game too.

 I’ve been watching Dexter and I will be taking souvenirs.

And since I’m pretty sure the set-up will end up infuriating me as well as amusing, let me get this out of the way:
Vote: Askthepizzaguy

I just want to let you know, right here, right now…

I will be tormenting you all for the entire game. This time, PizzaMod doesn’t have to muzzle or act impartial in the slightest. I figured out how to insert myself into the game without it being broken. I’ll be with you folks every step of the way, pooping on your every effort to win.

There will be much suffering and death, and you won’t be able to stop me.

Oh you can win… my games are winnable and fair. But I’ll be the 500-foot invincible rabid monkey on your back, biting you and dehumanizing you. And even if you do win, I’ll be able to laugh as I escape unharmed.

Good luck n’ stuff.

I can’t wait

Speaking of which, I suppose the time has come.

Game Preview:

In the genre of fantasy and roleplay adventuring, this story takes place in a world unlike our own. The protagonists [town] are summoned from many distant lands by a powerful, yet benevolent king. The king’s advisers and fortune-tellers predict that a catastrophic event is about to take place within his realm. While the prophecy is not particularly specific, it has been foretold that a tremendously evil force will rise against the people of this kingdom, and that the unseen summoner or summoners of this force [mafia] are motivated by the desire for limitless power. It has also been revealed that the mastermind behind this attack is a **traitor **to the kingdom, not an outsider.

As such, the king has asked for skilled warriors and practitioners of magic to step forward and join him on the field of battle, in the place where his fortune-tellers have predicted that the first disaster will strike; a defenseless town on the outskirts of his lands. The king has promised to reward them all very, very handsomely for their efforts should they succeed. The first order of business: preparing a defense. The king has already dispatched many knights and skilled workers to build a fortification stocked with supplies for the adventurers. This fortress will allow the adventurers a place to rest and recuperate after their journey and prepare for whatever awaits them, without endangering the nearby town itself.

These adventurers are not an army. Many of these are simply skilled mercenaries motivated by **greed **and the promise of reward. Others feel it is their sworn **duty **to protect the defenseless. Still others have joined simply for the **experience **of an adventure and the chance to test themselves in battle. Some of these adventurers harbor a deep-seated distrust for others who have joined this group. Not everyone here is in this for anyone else but themselves. Many of these adventurers hail from races that despise one another and have been in a constant state of war for centuries. And there’s also the known traitor within their midst. In such a group of varied people, there’s also bound to be folks with unknown motivations.

This group must walk the fine line between cooperating effectively, and being too trusting. Alone, they are vulnerable. Together, they are strong… but the enemy is within, and must be stopped.

Info about game mechanics:

What is the variance from standard mafia? For starters, the “basic” role can evolve into nearly anything. Everyone will be randomly assigned a role, some begin with very useful skills and others do not, but literally everyone can gain **experience **and turn into a more useful version of themselves. Not only that, but it is possible for players to switch classes or alignments and try to learn a different skill set. That means if you feel your starting role is useless, you may try to advance your character in a different direction.

That being said, as game master I have given you all the tools you need to win this game. If you decide to abandon your starting role, that is your business. Perhaps it will be wise to take up the role of a fallen comrade, perhaps not; that’s your call. A varied skill set may be preferable against the challenge you face, but perhaps it is possible to form a stronger group with repeating roles. Again, that’s your call to make. Play this game in whatever manner you think will allow you to win.

Note that the advantage of being able to switch roles is balanced by the time and effort it will take to train yourself, and note also that the longer you stay in your current role, the more powerful it can become. You must decide whether or not a more powerful hammer is the solution to your problems, or a different tool entirely. But switching your role my require you to take several steps in that direction instead of one, depending on how drastic the role change is. Just as an example, If you are a hulking warrior, turning yourself into a master of magic is not easy. You will be required to revert fully back to the basic role and then take baby steps into the realm of magic should you decide that is your path. However, if you are already a powerful magic user, turning into a slightly different kind of magic user could be easier by comparison. Sometimes to take on a different role, you will be required to change alignments as well. Lawful types cannot become assassins or thieves, because that’s illegal. Therefore, a lawful type will have to become neutral, before they can become chaotic. Again, the further away your starting role is from your desired role in terms of innate skill or predisposition, the more time-consuming it will be to change your role.

The mechanics of the above process will be revealed in simple terms before the game begins, as soon as the design is complete. Although the game is complex, knowing what the basic mechanics are will not be difficult for anyone. Voting, sending in night actions, and even attempting to switch roles will be as simple as can be. The challenge, as always, will be in knowing who needs to die for you to win, and then making it happen. That’s the point behind a mafia game.

[li]The game should not be unnecessarily hard due to fake difficulty.[/li][/ul]
Let’s go over common examples of fake difficulty and how they apply to this game:
1) Bad technical aspects- there are no joysticks, and all you need to know how to play is the basic rules of mafia, the variations from standard rules which will be posted, and be able to read and type the english language. Not particularly user-unfriendly.

2) Luck- Outcome is determined by your team’s actions and decisions. There is nothing randomly determined in this game except the starting role distribution.

3) Denial of information- The rules and mechanics you need to know to win this game will be posted before play begins. However, part of mafia and especially a game under the category of “option 7” is that you don’t know exactly what the game setup is or what roles or powers people have. This is a game where much information is withheld from you on purpose; you have to guess what to do and who to do it to, to win the game. If that’s not fair, don’t play.

4) Forced uninformed irreversible decisions- Well, *some *mistakes you have to live with, but the game play continues until a loss is the only outcome for the town, or the town wins the game, so the entirety of the game allows you the possibility to undo your mistakes and come back from a series of bone-headed blunders. As is an essential element to this game, your decisions will be largely uninformed. That’s why it’s mafia.

5) Game requires you to use special and unrelated skills- Nope. You have the option to pick who to lynch, and everyone you can lynch will be listed. You have the option to perform an action, and you can perform that action on anyone listed, during the appropriate game phase. You can literally randomize your decisions and win this game by accident. You do not need to know anything about other games, storylines, trivia, or solve complicated puzzles. Just point and tell me what you want to do, and to whom.

6) The Game Moderator is a cheating bastard- Nope. Just trust me on that until after the game where I can show you the facts. Until then, withhold judgment.

I am a highly experienced game host. Game design is what I wanted to do as a career at one point. I also play these games a lot and I know what is fun, not just for me, but for all. I take criticism very seriously and with an open-mind, and I also am on hand to answer almost any question you may have. No one should ever be lost or confused by the game design itself. Don’t understand something? PM me.
I promise that in spite of my in-game character I am actually running the game impartially and will attempt to assist you in every way that is host-appropriate. I also give you my solemn word that this game is not one I would consider to be a bastard game. I am also technically not playing the game, and cannot win it under any circumstances. But I will be enjoying myself and, in-character, will give you a hard time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Items:

Most characters will have items. These may or may not have any value whatsoever. However, some characters may wish to take your items.

Money:

Most characters will have money. This may or may not have any impact on the game. But some characters may wish to take your money.

Hit Points:

In keeping with this genre, it will be possible for you to take damage, and it may be possible to recover from this damage. If you take too much damage you will be rendered inactive. It may be possible to recover from that as well.

Death:

Life is quite absurd, and death’s the final word…?

If you die, that does not necessarily mean the game is over for you. However you WILL be required to stop posting or discussing the game in any way, with anyone, unless you have my express written permission beforehand.

Story color:

This is for flavor, but it will accurately describe what is happening, from the perspective of the uninformed characters within the story. That said, I’m obviously not going to reveal information which breaks the game within the story, so misinformation advantageous to the mafia, such as their cover role, will be accepted as fact until proven otherwise. You can also completely ignore the story and still win, it is not an essential game component. So you can find my writing insufferable and still enjoy this game.

As game moderator:

I will post the story color and accept your night actions and carry out all impartial actions as game host without compromising the game. All posts as game moderator will include “OOC” which indicates the post is being made as game moderator, **out-of-character.
**
You may ask the game moderator a question by posting in bold green. I am not required to answer all questions immediately or at all, but if I do not respond and I have a good reason for it, I will send you a PM explaining why.

As a character within the game:

I will hate on everyone who isn’t the mafia, and generally be your worst nightmare. It’s all in good fun, so deal with it. Also, I can vote and I cannot be lynched or ever die. That’s part of the twist of this game. All posts made as a character within the game are in-character (IC) and will be easily recognizable as such.

You may interact with the character I’m playing, at your own peril.

Questions or comments?

OH My

Care to elaborate?

I f you wish… the game that is starting today has subsets of rules and it appears yours does too… my cold meds addled brain will be bouncing keeping up… What fun!

So far, so awesome
