I stopped at a coffee shop, part of a small local chain, for a medium praline latté. Regular coffee doesn’t do a thing for me, but espresso certainly does! Even though I’m only halfway finished, I’m certainly wide awake now and should stay like this until after lunch. How about the rest of you?
Until I stopped drinking coffee (bad reaction to it which irritates Acid Reflux-and seeing as how I’m a chilehead, I need to save my esophagus for the good stuff), I would either buy or make myself two of what is variously called “Earthquakes”, “Jackhammers”, or “Coder’s Specials”.
Begin with 20 oz. of drip brewed coffee in a BIG cup. Drop in one or two double espressos. I would generally keep it to one unless I hadn’t had any sleep the night before or had been up for more than 48 hours consecutive. Add either vanilla or almond syrup. Ice and sugar optional. If you’ve done it right, and don’t stir it, at the end of the coffee you will have an espresso/sugar sludge that sort of “activates” the rest. I swear, it’s just like when speed starts “coming on”–that snap when reality settles itself back into place a little clearer than before. Good drink, hard on your tummy. If I had to stay up and wanted to get buzzed as well, I’d make Irish coffee with espresso.
Now I’ve got my wife started on Red Bull and Battery, which is a Swedish? energy drink. Tastes better than Red Bull, but doesn’t kick in as hard.
four cups of the coffee, each with 2 Equals and milk, then diet Pepsi or diet Coke every hour or two for the rest of the day.
I drink etither three or four cans of TAB (the soft drink) between 7 a.m. and noon. If I drink it after that I have trouble getting to sleep at night.
Pepsi in the mornin’, Pepsi in the evenin’, Pepsi at suppertime.
Or water, sometimes. I don’t like coffee.
I don’t generally drink coffee on weekdays until I get to work at 8AM. After that, I drink it throughout the day… I am guess 10-12 cups or so.
Weekends, I treat myself to a homemade late every morning. I only use starbucks beans but mine seem to taste better than storemade ones. I think the secret ingredient is love.
My wife thinks I’m a coffee addict. The funny thing is though, is that some weekends I forget to make my late… and I am none the worse for it.
Mmmmmmmm… Late. I am looking forward to tommorow even more now…
2 cans of Diet Coke in my big insulated mug, with as much ice as it will hold. I nurse that till lunchtime - then water for the rest of the day.
I don’t need the caffeine, mind you. Don’t need it at all. Nope, not me. I just like the taste. Really.
Ya know, I never really got any sort of buzz from a soda, not until I tried Pepsi One for the first time. Dunno what’s in it, but it had nearly the same effect as a latté. I tried Jolt once, did about as much for me as ordinary coffee.
 How do some of y’all ever sleep?!
I have a small 6 oz cup of (usually) French Roast (or something dark - Italian, Sumatran, etc) coffee in the morning with about 1/2 tablespoon of sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of half/half (none of that powder yuck for me).
MMMMMMM!
Lately we’ve been drinking the Cafe du Monde chicory coffee I bought back from N’awlins. Actually, I’ll be glad when it’s gone. It’s a little too bitter for me.
Sleep? What’s that? Shouldn’t that be in the “words that sound dirty but aren’t” thread?
My morning drink is coffee… I have a single cup made in one of those single cupper things. During the day I generally drink water or when I have some money slurpies (in summer), Booster Juice or coke.
Sleep? I sleep sometimes… not often very well though. Even though I try not to drink too much caffiene in the evenings. As long as I don’t drink tons of coffee I’m okay… otherwise I get hyper.
Heathens, the lot of you - I’ll stick with a nice cup of tea, thank you very much. One small cup the moment I wake up (very British - only black teas [comfort is Lipton, relaxing is cinnamon, but almost anything will do that’s not too malty or heavy], lots of sugar and lots of whole milk [cream is actually too sweet]), and one cup around 10:00 during my first break. At lunch I’ll have a soda (sometimes caffeinated, sometimes not) or, prefferably, iced tea (the only bottled kind I’ll drink is Nestea), and sometimes a second one after lunch. When I get home it’s usually iced tea with dinner, and perhaps another cup of hot tea before bed.
I just find tea very… comforting and relaxing, and at the same time the caffeine helps me get going (and yet, oddly, it also helps me sleep at night - must be a mental thing). I love the smell of coffee, but detest the actual beverage.
Factoid - coffee beans are excellent for clearing the palate of the nose. If you’re smelling perfumes and can’t get rid of the smell or want to smell a different one, sniff some coffee beans.
And everyone please note - chocolate-covered coffee beans are not a handful-at-a-time candy!

Hey hey hey… I love tea as well. It’s just easier to drink coffee most of the time because it’s easier to get. I love coming in on a cold winter day and having a nice cup of tea (rather than hot chocolate though that is great too)
Jeez, Gundy, i thought i had posted that for a second there! And when i am not drinking Pepsi, i am drinking hot tea (usually in the winter).
Of course, when i go to grad school next year, i will return to injecting the pepsi straight into my veins to stay awake…
Tell me about it. I ate about a 1/2 lb. of those once.
My friends told me they were a new coffee-flavored peanut M&Ms (off-brand, since they didn’t have the “m” stamped on them).
Joke was on them - they had to stay with me while I was bouncing off the walls for the rest of the day and evening (I was the driver).
Coffee. Black. No sugar.
I drink lots of it, and have conditioned my coworkers to do the same. I generally have 4 cups by 11 or so. Don’t even ask about the hella headaches I get if I don’t get some in my by 10 am…
Two cups of coffee before leaving the apartment in the morning. I can’t function enough to get through the shower and dressing without it. Once I get to work, I have 203 more cups between 7AM and 10AM(ish). Water after that, or grapefruit juice if I’m fighting a nicotine craving. 1-2 cans of diet coke once I get home in the evening. Again, grapefruit juice may be substituted to prevent a desperate run to the store for smoking materials of which I no longer partake.
1 sugar, 1 cream in each coffee.
And I mostly sleep fine.
The nectar of the gods…
** Diet Coke [sup]tm[/sup] **
One 20 oz before I leave the house and at least two more at work-I try to stop drinking them by 3pm so I can get some sleep at night.
If someone makes a coffee run…iced Mochachino in the biggest size possible.
I take it you have a stall reserved in the bathroom where you work?
Mostly?!?!

That’s what I get for attempting to touch type and not read the screem while watching The Simpsons.
