Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

Hi LiLi! I think your previous username is Lissla_Lissar - the board replaced spaces with _ in usernames when it moved.

Dunno if a mod can sort it… I do recognise your name, but (as I keep whining) my brain is currently being crammed with stuff and I think it’s full at the moment. I’m supposed to be in a stats class at the moment, please don’t tell. I hope things are good!

It’s online and I’m just looking at the pretty pictures while the lecturer makes noises by this point on a Firday anyway, and it’s recorded so I can watch later…

Caught you on FB, but missed saying it here:

Happy Birthday!!! :birthday:

Unsurprisingly, about a third of my students so far have decided to make it a 4-day weekend. So we adapt, improvise, overcome. Then stick them with a pop quiz Monday morning!

Don’t really blame them - it’s a beautiful day outside.

My new pans arrived yesterday. Even though I am careful not to use metal utensils and only occasionally wash them in the dishwasher, the newer of the old pans only lasted six years of constant use. I think I bought the older pan in 2010 or so. While the newer one is just getting scratched, the older one has metal showing through the hard coating.

The newer old pan was good for cooking over-easy eggs on the weekends. The older one that was more worn was used for the hashbrowns, tacos dorados, and that sort of thing. I last used them Sunday. Both of the older pans have been put out by the telephone pole for anyone to take, and the brand-new pans have been (hand-) washed and hung up on the rack. I’ll use them in the morning!

Incidentally, I have a heavy, hard-anodised, 8-inch KitchenAid frying pan. I bought it at a Target in L.A. about 18 to 20 years ago. It’s still holding up very well. While the outside is darkened from being in the dishwasher (must be aluminum) and has burnt-on spills on the bottom, the inside is great with only some light scratching.

Afternoon all. Got up late and then decided to do the ‘running-around’ part of the day first, so picked up soccer team photos (will distribute them Saturday), mailed letter, shopped at Wal-Mart, shopped at Kroger (and for the first time in my memory I used coupons; Kroger has been sending some to me based on my buying habits so decided to try them out-saved about $8) and put air in my tires, so all-in-all a productive morning. Then heated up and ate way to many Cinnamon rolls, so not likely to be hungry for quite awhile. Warming up the house so I can bathe comfortably, but not much else planned.

FCM, hope the boat is in good shape and keep us informed (when you can) on the Toby watch. And of course Roxy is a genius–she hangs around with her grandmom!!

shoe, just keep trying–you wouldn;t believe how many school systems I applied to for three years trying to land a teaching job (substitution and living at home kept me solvent). Things will come around.

OK, onward into the afternoon. All y’all take care.

Home, another long day. another busy week. And it’s stay that way, since the senior clerk is going on vacation for 2 weeks. At this rate I shall be comfotably poor in no time.
Also, Alex of House Catt, First of Her Name, Queen of Apartments, Protector of The Sectional Sofa, Mother of Hairballs, the Catleesi, The Unfed says “hello.”:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WORDY!!!

My car has been slipping lately. With the torrential rains we’ve been having, the slippage/hydroplaning is beginning to concern even me. I’ve called a local tire place, and they’re going to call back to let me know if they have what I need.

Happy Firday!

Happy Birthday Wordy!

Was a wet, rainy, wormy, 61 degrees at the park this morning.
By the time I left 2 hours later, if was a still wet, not rainy, 54 degrees.

We were sitting at the table and my friend looked down and said, OMG! that’s worms! We thought they were little twigs. Worms everywhere, the floor of the pavilion was covered in them. YUK!
Later somebody else came and looked down and said, are those worms?!
I don’t know what is up with Echo. She is still super friendly and excited to see her people, but no interest in playing with the other dogs at all.

Another fun filled  busy day.
Nothing major, just a lot of little irritants that take time.

Much love and skritches to all the cute furbabies.
I wish we had a central dog park where we could all meet up.
Of course, that leaves the cats and other critters out, but most of them don’t like to travel anyway.

Debating going to the armpit for Thanksgiving.
Then I have to go back down there for a doctor appointment two weeks later.
Then Christmas is two weeks after that.
Three back-to-back trips to the armpit does not fill me with joy.
I’m hoping the doctor visit can be telehealth, but I think it can’t. I’m pretty sure he told me last telehealth visit that I had to come in the next time.
I love my doctor so I don’t want to switch to one up here, but I think it’s coming to that.

Sorry about all your doctor woes, Nellie.

Just found out Roxy has been learning to write her numbers and letters:
Imgur
Not bad for 3 years old, yes?
I expect she’ll be reading by the end of the school year.

Neatness isn’t her strength, tho.

I’ve about given up on getting a call from the clinic today. My guess is the doc isn’t in on Fridays, though it wouldn’t surprise me if that nurse never messaged him. If I could send the itchiness to her for one day, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Actually, she’d have it until she became a more compassionate person. And as soon as she strayed back into Witchville, BAM! The itchies returneth. I’ll B.F. Skinner into a nicer person, dadgummit!

I’ll continue with the 3P’s (pleasant, polite, and persistent) but ramp it up on Monday. And I’ve got my fighting spirit back.

I’ve enjoyed all the pet pictures so much (Sari–I love those wrinkled faces! Soooo cute!). I wish my dogs were still alive (though they’d about 200 in dog years by now)so I could post photos. I guess my plants are my pets now, so here’s Charlotte in her new winter quarters in my bedroom   :

And yes, she’s having babies again. She’s just a gal who can’t say no…even to herself.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WORDY! I hope your loved ones make sure you know how glad they are you were born. And I hope you get cake…and wine.

dogbutler, the Queen of Apartments is beautiful and regal.

MetalMouse, sounds like a productive day.

Shoe, obviously if those potential employers couldn’t see the glory that is you, they’re not worthy of you, and you’re better off without them. Keep trying. You have lots to offer. (And your kitties are cute, which should help you get a job!)

Moooom none of us is surprised the RoxStar is brilliant. I mean, look at her maternal grandparents.

FCD took credit all by himself!

I’ve already done wished death-by-itchies on her, from afar :magic_wand: :woman_mage:t2::magic_wand:

Agreed. “Thank you for your service” is what I get when I have to show my ID to get a discount somewhere. It’s become the latest variation on “have a nice day” and is just about as sincere. If your manager told you to say it, please don’t. I will say, though, that my nephew sent me a PM telling me that, and I know that he is sincere. He is actually the first person ever in my family to show any appreciation of my service, and that includes my children. Time to change the will.

We’re on the receiving end of a pineapple express in the PNW. Or is that description no longer allowed? I can’t keep up. “Atmospheric river” is what the weather dude says. Been pouring down for days now and the days are dark. Better weather this weekend, though.

I mentioned my wife’s heart issues earlier. She was able to snag a cancelled appointment with a cardio yesterday so we paid him a visit. They did another EKG and he asked a lot of good questions. He said the irregular heartbeat is coming from the supraventricular area and is of no danger, which is good to know. He referred her for an echocardiogram and suggested getting tested for sleep apnea. But for now, she’s okay, and more info to follow.

Happy birthday wordy!

That sounds like good news about your wife cookie.

Got the Friday chores done and ordered a new vacuum when mine bit the dust just as I was going from the living room to the hall. I didn’t order a fancy one, given that the one that just went tits up was only a couple of years old and my next abode will likely be carpet free. I did try calling repair shops and two of them didn’t work on anything but Oreck, Rainbow and Kirby vacuums and the last one told me that it sounded like the motor and it would cost more to replace that than the whole vacuum. No wonder so many are replacing carpet.

Hideeho, all. I had to replace the remote for my garage door opener that lives in the kitchen. Detached garage and all. The old one just stopped working. So now I can actually get into and then close the garage from the house, which is nice. I also had to get a new fob for the truck, cuz the button wasn’t unlocking doors anymore. It seems that 15 years is the life span of those things.

cookie Best wishes to the wife and her supercalfragalistic heart. Sorry, my eyes cross when those big medical words show up.

wordy Happy birthday!

Evening all. Outside of a nice hot bath I accomplished little this afternoon, and this evening ain’t looking productive either. Really do need to tidy up and clean the kitchen, that’ll be my goal for tomorrow.

One of the soccer kids gave me a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory (I had no clue there even was one in the region), so I’ll plan on that for Sunday dinner. Cheeseburger is resting not at all comfortably in my belly (I think the cinnamon rolls from noontime don’t go well with beef) but nothing serious.

Did do my good deed for the year this morning, as I was leaving Kroger this old guy (in his 70’s) was thumbing for a ride, so I tossed my stuff in the back and picked him up. Turned out he was right along my way, so it was only a 3-4 minute ride, not much discussion but I saved him a 1-2 mile walk. so that was a good thing.

Hippo Birdies to you, wordy!

Good news for the wife, cookie.

VanGo, have an attached garage, but appreciate not having to go out to open the garage.

FCM, not bad for a 3 year old–here letters aren’t to bad either.

Sari, love the pictures, Echo has really grown.

OK, need to add the evening’s dishes to the dishwasher (will run it tomorrow) and see if I got a late-late mail delivery or not. Everyone take care now.

Howdy Y’all! I did all the things. We et at the hog trough Chinese buffet place. We napped. We chilled. Ah the life of a retired drain on society!

And now this…

I went to the gym. Sometimes the only way to distract myself from itching is to be miserable in other ways. I was going to walk to the grocery store, but I ran out of daylight. Domani.

Well, that could explain why she hasn’t called. I guess death by itchies would be a pretty good excuse.

That’s good to hear! We have flash flood warnings until tomorrow afternoon. It’ll rain all day Sunday. Also, many veterans I know agree with you. Former students in the military say it’s become an ironic joke to them. They’ll say, “Thank you for your service!” to each other for every tiny thing. I usually post on social media that if you’re really grateful to veterans for their service, you’ll push for better healthcare, including psych services, instead of making yourself feel better by uttering a glib phrase. Glad Mrs. Cookie got the all-clear!

See how appreciated you are?

The maintenance guys are still working downstairs. Apparently management is changing paint color, and it takes two coats, hence the four days down there. New folks move in Monday.

It started … sleeting? Something? There’s stuff falling from the sky, and it’s more hard than wet (HA!) and though the oracles foretold snow, whatever this is, it ain’t snow.
Almost looks like tiny hail.

Pity my poor cats. They became accustomed over the summer to being let out after I got home from work. I rarely closed.

Well, I closed tonight, AND it was dark, like, hours ago, so no I’m not letting them out.
Try telling them that, though.

That was incredibly kind of you, thank you.

Yep, that would be what us dyed in the wool Midwesterners call sleet. Charming isn’t it?
