Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

This cracked me up. It reminds me of BooFae’s naught weather reports.

Meh, I realized once when a guy dumped me that this was my attitude: if you can’t see what a catch I am, you flunk the boyfriend test, and I have to let you go. It was inspired by a line I read in a very old novel: “Her suitor had proven himself unworthy,” and realized it applies to all sorts of situations. It’s certainly true of you. I hope you get a great job that pays a lot better and offers some bennies.

Went out for Mexican food for the first time in over a month. Wifey, RN had to drive all over Hell-and-gone for her three patients today, so it was later than usual. She said, ‘Don’t let me eat that late again.’ The thing is, we ate about 1830, which is a more reasonable time for me than our usual 1630.

I love polydactyl kitties! * skritches *

That isn’t the cutest picture ever!

silenus What an awesome collection of kitties.

Red Nelson is a cutie  When are you moving to your carpet-free abode?

nellie Yay for sister’s biopsy! I’m so sorry about your medical situation. I hate the medical establishment here. Do you have any other places to try for treatment? Charlotte looks like very happy and healthy young lady.

Mother of a teenage boy here - I can attest to the hormones. Eventually, it evens out. I think.

LiLi pleased to meet you and welcome back.

wordy Happy Birthday! :birthday: :tada: :balloon: :confetti_ball:

Moommm fingers crossed for Toby arrival (and an easy delivery for mom)! Yay for Roxstar! Those are some impressive letters and numbers. :woman_student:

flyboy I use the same pans. Congrats on your new acquisitions.

cookie I’m glad your wife got good news on her heart.

Metal Mouse you scored a Cheesecake Factory card? Lucky you. I shall envy you from afar.

I call that stuff “snail”. I’m not sure what the official name is. :woman_shrugging: Also, nellie is right. Any business would be lucky to have you. I have faith that you will find something worthy of you.

I have spent the last two days working on the house with the organizers. Wow. What a HUGE difference. I should have done this years ago when we moved in. There’s more to do, but I would not be embarrassed to have guests over. We have room for a Christmas tree. All counters are clean and accounted for. I feel like I got a Christmas miracle.

Tuesday I have a spinal procedure. I feel like we’re finally making progress on my health. Hopefully this procedure will resolve the CSF leak. :crossed_fingers: Now to take the weekend to recover from the last 2 days. Holy cow I am sore all over.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. And tape. It’s my Firday.

: skrithces Echo, Ripple, and Adam :
(I love the Bday cake picture.

: skrtiches Monkey[/b] :

Beats freezing rain. That stuff’s the Devil.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of
< snerk > 69! < snerk > and N.O.S. for the day. We have a frost advisory in effect for overnight/tomorrow mornin’. Shall we panic? No biggie plans for the day. We shall sloth, chill, and overall enjoy bein’ retired drains on society. We shall feed, as needed, via forage.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

shoe - I had a thought, though it’s probably only applicable in specific states. Anyway, here in Southern Merrylande, we have this office. Maybe there’s something similar in your area? My daughter will be heading there as the school year winds down - she wants a regular job that won’t require her to do planning and grading on her own time, plus one that pays better than a tiny private school. Good luck in your search!

And good morning, all! My right arm is sore like crazy - I think it’s a combination of the repetitive motions associated with knitting coupled with the repeated yanking to start the leaf blower as well as using the leaf blower the other day, since it’s a one-handed job and I’m right handed. I’ve got a sheet of exercises from therapy when I had the frozen shoulder - I think they’ll help, so I need to dig it out. And I need to make myself tread the mill regularly - pounds are sneaking back and I don’t like it. Yeah, part is that I’ve been eating too much junk, but I need to keep up with regular cardio. Self-discipline is hard!!! :sob:

Two chores for the day - the easy one is cleaning the critter fountain - that might take 15 minutes. The tougher one is helping FCD figure out why his heat transfer analysis isn’t working right. I figured if he explained it to me step by step, it would help him think thru the process, plus my questions as I try to understand usually give him a Eureka moment. Thermodymanics is absolutely not one of my favorite things, but he needs to get this report done, so whatever I can do to help. Good times ahead. :stuck_out_tongue:

Daughter got all teary last night - it was her last time tucking in Roxy as an only child. Tonight, RoxStar will stay with her Grandma, then tomorrow she comes here for (at most) 3 nights. The next time she goes home, Toby will be there, and then the fun starts! And that’s why only young women can give birth! They’re the only ones with the energy! Menopause is my friend!

We discussed Thanksgiving dinner. I’ll roast (or rotiss) the turkey on Weds, then slice it up, making a platter to take and putting the rest in the freezer for future meals. I’m also going to make a sweet N.O.T. casserole with marshmallows (ick -too sweet) and the “traditional” green bean casserole (Ick on cream of mushroom soup, but it was requested) and I’ll steam some broccoli - cheese sauce was requested. Plus a pan of dressing (boxed, but I’ll jazz it up, so don’t judge - I’ve never made it before.) And, of course, a punkin pie. Daughter is making crock pot smashed spuds, and we’ll open a jar of gravy (Judge ye not!!!) I think that covers all bases. Sad lack of chocolate - do I add chocolate chip cookies or a pan of brownies??

FCD is getting his knee done on Dec 3, SIL has his knee surgery on Dec 7. SIL won’t be able to drive for 2 weeks, so unless they figure something out, he can’t go to work. Daughter certainly can’t take him, what with 2 kids. FCD can’t drive till probably January, and I shouldn’t drive at night, but I do have a card that allows me to go on base, so it may fall to me unless SIL’s brother can play taxi or they can work something out with Uber. I find it interesting that his mother’s help never came up in conversation… Must discuss…

Of course, if they approve his paternity leave, it becomes a non-issue. He didn’t find out he was eligible till just recently and the paperwork is hung up somewhere. Fingers crossed for an approval there.

Dang, who knew I had all that in me this early?? Happy Saturday!!

Thank you all for the welcome and welcome back!

@Johnny_L.A , my medium sized pot finally died due to kid-abuse after a solid twenty years, and I replaced it with a decent nonstick pasta pot with a strainer lid. So far I really love it. I think my deep skillet is going to die soon, but it’s had fifteen years at least- it’s older than Gnat.

@FairyChatMom, of COURSE Roxy is the smartest ever. Pfft.

I’m up and getting the kids ready to go to their Dad’s for the weekend, and then it’s workworkwork most of the day, with a billion orders to go out. The retail countdown to the holidays has started.

I’ve mentioned on your FB many times - I really love your work, but I’m not a jewelry person, and if I bought any, it would just sit in my jewelry box, which would be stupid. However, I’m thinking maybe I’ll get something for Roxy - for when she’s a little older, of course. I’ll wait till your seasonal rush subsides. Plus this whole boat-buying thing has sucked up my fun money for the moment.

I’m going to see if FCD is ready to get up, and I’ll take him to breakfast, because I’m nice, dammit! Onward!

Thank you! I’m totally not offended or anything and I’m always thrilled when you comment. Did the Making Stuff forum disappear while I was gone? I don’t see it anymore.

Anyway I need to find and hire some flunkies to take over some of the manufacturing and ALSO ENJOY the fun of carpal tunnel :joy: but first I need a bit of free time.

And right now I’m restoring an iPad to factory settings with two very loud children breathing in my ear who are VERY HELPFUL.

Morning all. Stayed up until nearly midnight solving the Triple Sudoku in the Friday paper, so of course I woke up at 6:30am…nappage is a definite possibility. Need to go down to the fields and distribute pictures to those who bought them this morning, but otherwise nothing is on the agenda (whoops, forgot, need to pick up dry cleaning). Only getting to 50F today, but no rail/sleet/snow here.

OK, need to find sustenance and be about the day. All y’all take care.

Mornin’ all. I shall be heading to the shop to do some staining during the weekend when the building is empty of other people. The off to the grocery sto to procure food stuffs. I have a new cheesecake recipe that I really want to give a test run pre-T-day. Then it’ll be laundry. Huzzah!

They’re saying we might see snow tonight. I’m not ready for that yet.

Stay safe, all!

The promise of breakfast rousted FCD. I’m showered and dressed, he’s showered and dressing. We shall be off soon.

Good morning everyone.

Things are flooding 'round these parts, but again, I’m up the hill from the rivers that are flooding down in the valley, so I’m good.

I can’t wait to hear about Tody’s arrival!

We went to Wild Birds unlimited and picked up a 20-pound bag of no-mess mix, along with four suet cubes. It’s a good thing too because the feeder that uses the no mess mix was hovering on empty yesterday. My husband had just filled it two days prior. It’s crazy how hard they hit our station.
Today we’ll clean both of the seed feeders, put in some no-mold stuff and fill them back up again. We’ll also check how much suet is left and fill that one if need be. Finally, we’ll scrub the hanging water dish/birdbath again and fill it with fresh water. That gets cleaned every couple of days during rainy periods and every day when it’s not raining. The amount of rain that has fallen just mean the dish is continually full and running over while it’s pouring rain, so it’s not like the water is stagnant anyway.

After hitting the bird place, we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant that used to operate out of a big bus. They ran that bus for years but finally got a bricks-and-mortar place. It took forever for them to open. It’s pretty decent food. After that, we went to Safeway to pick up some items, and finally Mud Bay for more doggie ice cream.

Since had the audacity to leave Polar alone, he received an ice cream treat when we got home. This made him very happy, of course. At fivish, he received his dinner (boiled chicken thighs and rice), and as soon as he finished he rounded up both me and the husband to show us his bowl was empty and to let us know it was dessert time. Much stampy-paws and woo-wooing ensued while he picked his flavor, and then he settled down for dessert. It’s the same routine every night.

If it’s not pouring, I think I’ll head to the park and try to get some miles in. I need to get back on that bandwagon, especially with the holidays approaching.

I also need to attend to chores and wash the bedding.

I need to head to the “maul” to find some slacks for the celebration of life I have to attend next weekend. I’m really not super thrilled about going to this thing, but my mother needs a ride and I’m doing it more for my sister and brother-in-law’s sake, than anything. I didn’t really now D’s mother all that well.

Sending good vibes that you find an employer who can appreciate you, shoe.

I’m also sending good luck job vibes to you, batboy.

It’s called Graupel, also known as soft hail, corn snow, hominy snow, or snow pellets.

I bought a Tri-Ply stainless steel set of Calphalon cookware first. Similar to this set. The handles on the lids aren’t so tall, and my set came with another pot between the 3-quart one and the stock pot in size. (It has a small handle opposite the main one.) It cost $300 from Bed Bath & Beyond at the time. I got a rack too, but didn’t put it up until well after Mrs. L.A. moved in. Little did I know that she’d always wanted a ceiling rack with pots and pans on it.

Wifey left the 2.5 qt. pot unattended on the stove element that was ‘running away’ (now fixed) and now that pot has a coil-shaped uneven bottom. I bought a new one, but the warped one is still serviceable. There’s also a 14-ince (I measured) ‘Everyday Pan’, a 1 qt. hard-anodised pot (second one), and a hard-anodised 1.5 qt. pot of lesser quality than the other ones.

Morning, all. Quite a lovely day here in SoCal. Warm, sunny and I awoke to discover that not only is today the 9th Anniversary of my favorite local brewery, but I have been informed that the head brewer put my name on the VIP list for the party this afternoon. Free beer!!

Sometimes, when you’re not looking, the gods will smile on you. In the immortal words of Senex: “A thousand thanks, whichever one of you did this.”

Back from breakfast, followed by a detour to the marina so I can see where our slip is, assuming we can’t get a better one. We’ll find out next month what will be available. We also stopped by Daughter’s house to drop off some mail that came for SIL. Roxy grabbed my hand to pull me inside, but I left her with a “see you tomorrow” and she seemed satisfied.

There’s a load of towels in the washer and I need to clean the critter fountain. At the moment, tho, I’m eating some grapes. Thus is the life of a retiree!

It’s 45º American here, and Mrs. L.A. is turning the patio heater on. Weird, eh?

I used both new pans this morning. SWMBO asked for home fries instead of hashbrowns. Apparently I put too much freshly-ground black pepper on them for her taste. She said they were good, but a little spicy.

FCD wound up solving his thermo problem without me, tho I did give him a couple of suggestions of what to include in his report for the benefit of the non-engineers who might read it. He’s run all the simulations, so now he’s napping.

I’ve folded and put away the towels, cleaned the critter fountain, and emptied and started refilling the dishwasher. The little bit of mail we got went right into the recycle bin. I think it’s time to assume the knit-in-front-of-TV position.

After cooking on odds and ends for decades, I finally bought a set of Le Creuset stainless frying pans and a set of All-Clad stainless pots. I also have a hard- anodized Anolon pan that gets daily use for bacon or fried potatoes or almost anything else. And of course a cheap T-fal skillet for eggs.
