Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

You party animal, you!

I sure hope this isn’t code for some sort or twisted, sick weirdo thing. Not to suggest that you’re a twisted, sick, weirdo, but you do hang out with the likes of us…

I put my 2 cents in in the other thread, but I forgot to ask, will you sell your house? I suppose you could have the kids live in it. :scream:

We’re getting closer to getting moved, finally. This week I packed up my computer and brought tit over to the little house. My old monitor didn’t survive the trip however, ditto the old, old keyboard. Oh well.

Last year Wifey bought an artificial tree for the little house. We’ll get it out sometime soon and set it up in the living room. We haven’t had a tree for years. She kinda missed having one, but they got so expensive, and were so messy and time consuming, she said no.

Plans for the day involve tearing out the rest of the old closet and possibly patching the walls. I need Wifey to finish moving the stuff that’s still in there. If I move it, she’ll just tell me I did it wrong and move it someplace else anyway, so I’ll cut out a step by waiting on her to do it.

I like bananas, when they’re properly ripe, but not too ripe, and I’m allergic to milk so easy choice there.

Don’t care for cube steak, but for our dead cow needs we buy petite sirloin steaks for ~$3.00/lb when they’re on sale so it’s never even a consideration for us.

Sorry about everyone’s car and workplace woes. You have my sympathy.

We took Gibbs to the vet for another x-ray Saturday. She prescribed some more meds and told us not to let him overexert himself. Those are both difficult. He hates taking pills, and loves to run around and bark at things, other dogs, people walking by, leaves, etc.
We’ll try, but we’re afraid he’s not going to be with us as long as we thought.

I need to go eat and stop thinking about this stuff.

Oh, is that what the kids are calling it these days?

When I was a kid, ‘boat people’ where desperate souls hoping to leave Cuba and survive the voyage to land in Florida. Bet you and FCD can replace that image in my brain.

I hear sounds of painting and cleaning downstairs, so I think the VERY LOUD tenants really have moved out. I had doubts because their welcome mat (so ironic) is still there, but apparently they left it. Here’s hoping for quiet people.

My sister saw the radiologist’s report and is worried because the spot has irregular borders. I told her some benign masses have irregular borders, but of course I get why she’s spooked. THe biopsy is Thursday, and she’ll get results Monday.

ON a happier note, my hair appointment Friday got postponed a week because my stylist/friend’s wife had their second baby. Their older boy is 2 1/2 and a cutie-pie.

Holidays? What holidays? When I was teaching, holidays meant less time for teaching and more grading. We were on a block schedule, so classes were twice as long but courses ended at Christmas, so for weeks before, we were grading, grading, grading. This was also when kids would panic about grades and need extra attention. Wrapping and sending gifts, etc. had to be squeezed in around the edges. Now that I’m retired, holidays are hit-or-miss, depending on whether my kids can make it.

swampy, I’ve never heard of a bachelor’s chest, and the ones I’ve seen were hairy, yuk, yuk. I looked them up, though (the furniture), and they seem like handy things to have.

quietly, sorry about the car battery, but hey, clean floors!

oopsie, cheering you on from here and am very excited for you. Also, now I want bananas AND skim milk. (Why is it “skim” instead of “skimmed”? It’s always bothered me.)

Is this a bad thing or a good thing?

We’re not moving out of the house - no way! The boat will be a weekend retreat at the marina, plus we’ll go places around the bay every once in a while (on non-holidays.)

Daughter thinks Toby has dropped - did I mention that in last week’s thread? Anyway, at her Dr appt today, she was told it could be any time now. But the schedule is for her to report to the hospital on Sunday evening, and they’ll start the pitocin on Moanday morning - Toby should arrive before the day is over. And depending on everything, she’ll go home Tues or Weds - they’ll know more when she delivers. But it looks like I’ll be taking Roxy to school for 3 days.

And now, to figure out supper.

FCD is watching that idiotic sci-fi series Another LIfe - I tried watching it with him when it first came out and it was just too stupid for words. So he watches and I hang out away from the TV and we’re both happy.

VanGo, IME, places that do good fish or fried chicken rarely do good fries (chips). The culprit is that the fries need to be in a hotter fryer.

bumba, running around and barking at things is the terrier way! I hope that you can get some pills down him and maybe slow him down some.

It was 36F when I left for irk this morning and 75F when I came home. How the hell is one supposed to dress? Hint: layers.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up from naptime. Got burgers and fries going. Drinking an Old Fashioned.

For that, I would have driven over!

Unusual. And probably not fun for kitty.

Feed it, make it the local mascot.

See, it’s shit like this that makes me lose all hope for humanity.

Me, too.

Rats have already gotten their evening rations - brown rice, and MORE white bread!
Whaaa… ?? How lucky do they all feel tonight?

(Cue Charm poking around. “Hey. Hey! Got any pups?”)

Monkey was being a colossal butthead tonight, walking on my cross-stitch hoops and just generally getting into shit on my side table.

… I found a mint “Plackers” (those little gum-picker thingies) that had gotten mislaid and wound up under the hoops. Pulled it out, he got all :open_mouth: so I tossed it onto the floor and … see, this is why it’s foolish to pay money for cat toys.

I have a small hunk o’cow prepped for dinner, but I need … well, I mean, I need something to go with it.
I’m sorta feeling … little mini potatoes. The tiny red- and gold-skinned kind. But I haz none, and obtaining roasters would entail doing things like putting on pants, and a bra, and leaving the house, and I just … I’m sitting here having a whole conversation with myself.
“Want potatoes.”
“Self. Just how badly do you want these potatoes?”
“Want potatoes.”
“Like, enough to drive to the store, and deal with grocery stuff?”
" … "

One neighbor has their lights up already. Must. Not. Firebomb. Apartment.

Instacart?

shoe That entire post made me chuckle. I know the feeling of “well I need something…don’t wanna…the grocery store is only 2 miles away…don’t wanna…c’mon do it…don’t wanna” Instacart don’t work for me-I live too far out.

FCM Hope all goes well with the boat!

The allergy center people said my bloodwork was fine, which should take away one excuse from the insurance company. No approval yet. I mean, why hurry? It’s not like I’m, y’know, itching or anything. Sorry. Itching can make you very cranky. Maybe Ivan the Terrible was really just I-van Itching Like Crazy, Mothas.

Cube steak always seemed like a suspicious name to me. It’s like someone thought “steak” would make it sound more appealing, and “cubed” would keep the math majors too puzzled to realize they’d been chewing for 45 minutes.

Now that’s an idea! Call it “Smalls,” maybe, or “Blueberry,” or “BOOM SQUEAL.”

Potatoes are in the oven.

Monkey is being a butthead again.

I had a heel of crusty loaf and sliced it to split among the rats. They’re beside themselves with rodent joy.

Overheard while out getting N.O.T.s, and I just don’t know where to put this:

Customer: “Most Indians speak Hindu, right?”
Clerk: " … "
Customer: “But, you Indians don’t speak Spanish!”
Clerk: " … "

What? I mean, just WHAT?

Our offer was accepted. Barring something really weird and disturbing, we’ll own a boat pretty soon. Yoiks!

shoe - that’s a head-scratcher of a conversation…

Ok, I need sleep. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Congrats! FCM on the bouncing baby boat–soon to be augmented by a bouncing baby grandson. Hope both will be in fine condition…and pictures of both are hereby requested when possible.

shoe, that is an…interesting observation–the customer is right on both points, but how you get from one to the other is perplexing. And being a butthead is Monkey’s job.

Bumba, best wishes for Gibbs.

Don’t forget the “wax-on, wax-off”…

Nothing much accomplished this afternoon, have made a list of 3-4 things to do tomorrow, so we’ll see. Did manage to get to the living room clock (need to get the latter out for it) and set it back to the ‘proper’ time, so all timepieces should be showing the same time now.

All ya’ll take care.

I will go on record now, that the whole rigamarole of donning appropriate wear etc. was So. Worth. It.

There was also the matter of First Dinner (smoked herring, with onions and capers & a bit of lemon, on Triscuits).

Happy tummy. Y’all have a peaceful night.

ETA:

Dude’s gonna be foreman, or manager, or something, soon, if he keeps this nonsense up.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

 :cat:

Being from the West coast, ‘boat people’ means refugees from Vietnam.

Somehow I have the idea of a cat in the hub being as good as a cat being in a room full of rocking chairs. Not so good for the cat.

Morning, mumpers! It’s a balmy 12C/53F and a bit cloudy. I have been a bit MIA recently, just because I’ve been feeling unwell and can’t be bothered with much. I’m starting to feel a bit better, my cold symptoms are improving so that’s a good sign. Still returning negative tests despite many of the symptoms being shared between covid and a normal cold/flu so I am confident that I’m not the modern-day Typhoid Mary but it would be good to feel a bit more normal.

Working on campus for half the week as usual then off work until next Tuesday s we have a music festival to be at on Thursday. We should be home on Sunday, and I have Monday off to go and pick up the cats from their new holiday home.

Fingers crossed for safe deliveries of both boat and grandkid, moooom! Will we get a trip out on the boat in the spring, like we had a trip on the mower?

Irk is irksome, I have a bunch of things to do and I Don Twanna!

rosie’s sig to all
