The Don Imus radio show 3/31 had a reallydisgusting piece following journalist Jill Carroll’s release, after almost three months after kidnapping in Iraq.

Particularly offensive:
"IMUS: She’d have made a bigger dent had she hit the ground because, than she ordinarily would have, because she put on 20 pounds.

MCCORD: Put on 20 pounds while in captivity, yeah.

MCGUIRK: And why do we suspect?

IMUS: Well, why do you suspect?

MCGUIRK: She’s carrying Zarqawi’s baby. No doubt about it.

IMUS: Man, you are a such a, you’re a…

MCGUIRK: Did you hear her comments yesterday? She’s wearing the terrorist headgear, and everything points to that."

This wasn’t some guy that Imus was interviewing, it was his producer. Granted, Imus was playing the “Don’t say that!” persona, but why the Hell would that idiotic piece of trash ever made it to airtime???

So, these assholes take the opportunity from their safe little seats to, instead of being glad that a young journalist who has the huevos to report from Iraq, and is finally released from a three month terror of confinement, without knowing if she would die the next day…they choose to comment on her fucking weight gain (umm…being locked in a little room?) and how she must be pregnant with her captors? This is just disgusting: how could you even have a pig-mind like that???

And, she’s wearing “terrorist headgear”, because, umm, they gave her that to wear???

This is so disgusting, to hurl a base insult like that at a journalist, from all accounts a very hard-working one, with good reputation with her colleagues, and these idiots are basically calling her a Stupid Cow. I hope it will all fade, and, so perhaps just should not even bring it up, but that shit was said, so, FUCK YOU DON IMUS!!!

Why isn’t Jill Carroll regarded as a simple, anonymous hostage, someone kidnapped for ransom? What if the Sunni Party bought her, and as a condition of her release she was forced to make those statements?

Or, how would you feel if you were kidnapped? What if you were delivered to your kidnapper’s boss where he presents you with a choice: Handycam or Chinese Type 54?

Too many unanswered questions, waaaay too soon. She said some shit that pisses people off, just like the Christian dudes. It’ll pass and cooler heads will prevail.

And she’s already spoken out saying that she was forced to make those comments, she repudiates them, and that she did it out of fear and the desire to be free.

As Qadgop’s link says, Jill Carroll details her making of the last tape before release, under duress. She complied to her captors, in order to survive.

I still cannot understand anyone’s anymosity towards her. There were some sorry snipes in the National Review as well as the Imus show. Both are very untoward towards women,and, the Imus pregnancy crap is just beyond comprehension.

We shall see in the next couple of days if she is welcomed as a hero, undergoing duress for our understanding of the war. I see her as that, and admire her. Let’s see if she makes the front page on Monday.

According to wiki, she’s been reporting from Iraq since October 2003. Seems to me a coward probably would have “stood down” when the conflict “stood up.” YMMV.

The desire to stay alive does not make one a coward. If I had a choice between saying things that I don’t believe at all (death to America, etc.) and death, I’ll say pretty much anything. That doesn’t make me a coward; it makes me a guy who wants to stay alive a bit longer.
