In GOP We Trust? NOT!

Bit of a holier-than-thou attitude here, isn’t it? Or are you claiming that there was no name-calling and extremist alienation coming from the Republican side during the campaign? I think it was a wash.

I’d like it if everybody quit name-calling and got down to what we should be doing for the next four years: arguing over issues and actions.

No, no, no. The Dummycrats (Jinx started it  ) lost because Karl Rove is evil and Bush sold his soul to the Devil. Shit, Bricker, where have you been?

And just what in holy fuck makes your beliefs so much better than ours? Both sides are entitled to their beliefs. It just so happens that the majority of voters sided against you. That doesn’t mean the world is going to end, and it doesn’t justify the complete and utter vilification of anyone who disagrees with you. It just means that for now, for the next four years, you’ll have to regroup and try again next election.

And the rest of us disagree. That’s what makes America what it is. The fact that we can and do disagree. Isn’t it grand?

Wonderful! Fabulous! Don’t give up, don’t stop fighting, please! That’s part of what makes our country great.

But when people like Jinx and others use name-calling and hostile tactics to push their views and alienate the rest of us instead of trying to intelligently voice their opinion then don’t be surprised when you find that time and again your voice isn’t heard.

Well, that’s just incredibly classy.

And I get that. And those are not unreasonable beliefs.

The problem is in how you frame them. “We believe in civil liberties!” That’s great. Nothing wrong with that.

“The Patriot Act! Black-clad stormtroopers kicking down your librarian’s door to find out what books you’ve been reading!!!” That’s not so great.

“Seperation of Church and State.” Who doesn’t buy that? But pick your battles… does it further that cause more if you protest prayer in school or “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. Most everyone will get behind the idea of no prayer in public school; most everyone is outraged when you talk about trimming the pledge. Pick the battle that makes your side look reasonable and not looney.

Etc, etc.

Or, continue just the way you’ve been going, because, quite frankly, not only is it working out well for me politically, but I’ve made a boatload of money.

Come on, duffer, that’s hardly a credit to our side either. Let’s not resort to playground tactics.

Yeah, please do. I’d buy it myself, but you see, I’m on the Bush Plan of displaced workers…and I can’t even afford the air I breathe. But, the good news is we’re growing in numbers! I’ll see ya in the “displaced worker” line. Just remember, when you’re unemployment insurance runs out, you don’t count anymore! So, you see, even the diplaced workers of America can help the economy by being a non-entity, a non-statistic! Isn’t that grand?

I know, you think that won’t happen to you. And then, one day, when you least expect it, you’ll wake up to find it’s your turn!

…What? Me worry?

I’m sorry you lost your job. But is it really attributable to Bush? What did you do for a living, and how did you lose your job?

Yeah, I know, but I was dying to use it.

Retracted.

Actually it did. I was laid off back in January. But I got up off my ass, never claimed any unemployment and found a kick-ass job. What’s your point? I should feel sorry for you because you feel the need to foist off all your problems on the administration?

Yeah, but during that time period, 49% of America (in the least) will drain their life savings and cash in their 401Ks early due to hardship just to try to stay afloat. When that doesn’t work, and their credit lines are maxed, then the bank forecloses and the fun begins in a shelter… BY 2008, it’ll be too late for such families to rebuild. This IS reality. You just choose to believe “the sun will come out tomorrow”, but there might not always be a tomorrow for honest, hard-working Aemricans who have been undermined by the Fat Cats of big business deals - which are the grass roots of the GOP.

You seem young to me, and your view of the world is still innocent. It ain’t that easy, kid. Four years is too long for so many American families to wait for relief. If we all default on our credit cards, the banks are going next… - Jinx

It’s Nov 4th, do we really need a new I can’t believe Bush won/all Pubbies are evil/51% of Americans are stupid thread? Couldn’t we just have one thread instead of 30?

What makes equality under the law better than legalized bigotry?
What makes civil liberties better than checking citiizens’ library records?
What makes having clean air and water better than living in a poluted hellhole?
What makes not creating another generation of Muslim radicals better than creating one?
What makes science and seperation of church and state better than fundementalism?
What makes accountability in our politicians better than letting them make shit up?

Jeez, I have no idea.
Must just be a difference in opinion.

The majority has never been particularly brilliant.
A bunch of idiots voting does not impress me any more than a bunch of idiots being hooked on reality TV.
Nor am I villifying all republicans.

Just blaming y’all for what has happened, and will happen to my country.

Yeah, it’s wonderful.
Fucking wonderful.
Don’t confuse the right to disagree with the fact that choosing bush will have definite consequences for our nation and our planet.
You didn’t just have an opinion, you’ve set something in motion.
I just hope we can weather this.

Oh please.
The republicans have been doing the same exact thing for quite some time now.
Remember, John kerry “looks french.”

We’ve tried intelligently voicing our opinions.
We’ve tried pointing out where Bush lied.
We’ve tried pointing out the real world effects of his foreign policy.
We’ve tried, and we’ve tried, and we’ve tried.
And you know what?

Anger is a perfectly valid response.
And a lot of us are angry.
And I, for one, will be damned if I’ll be silent just because it is politically expedient.
And I, as an American citizen, am saddened and frightened by what is happening to my country which I love dearly.

Fuck classy.

Allow me to be perfectly clear:
If you could not decide between two candidates, and were voting in an election that was this important, and you voted because some people on one side really really dislike a candidate, you are a fucking moron.

So… defending our civil liberties is fine…
But when you object to the government looking over library records, that’s just way out there?
Or pointing out that holding American citizens as enemy combatants without a trial is wrong?
Or that arresting American citizens and not charging them with anything, and still holding them in detention, is dangerous?
Funny… I’d call that extending your principles to their logical conclusions.
But that’s just me.

Seperation of church and state is good… but you voted for a man who sponsored “faith based initiatives.”

Again… principles extended to logical conclusions.

Hey, Ronald Reagan was in office when my family drove around a K-Car… I’m all in favor of returning us all to those glorious days!

What the fuck are you talking about? How the hell is any of this Bush’s fault? What fucking *relief * were you going to get from Kerry? You seem young to me, you have no idea how the world works.

WOW!!! It’s going to be that bad?

Some advice. Turn off the computer and start hording everything you can. You only have 4 years left!

I’d ask for a cite, but I think we all know the source you’re basing this on and severe delusional illness doesn’t have a link.

I’ll give you this much, you sure are entertaining as a representative of the left-wingers.

OK - so your economic prediction is that four years from now, 49% of American families will have lost their savings and 401(k)?

That seems… um… realisitic to you? You stand behind that view as just as valid as the other claims you’ve made heer today?

BTW, when you grow up you’ll learn that living beyond your means is always a recipe for disaster. Isn’t that one reason you hate Bush so much?

No, this will not be the Democrat line in 2006 if I have any say (and I will). If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the GOP, they do not accept accountability for their actions. Dead soldiers are a yawn, and the economy’s progress is unimportant. Health care–who cares? Believe me, GOP, I got your message.

Dems have to reassure the voters that they are not pro-gay or that they will in any manner impede the conflation of right-wing Christian dogma with the law.

I was thinking that instead of mentioning “civil liberties,” which are anathema to Red staters who prefer an authoritarian government, Dems might get traction with a “Protect religion from state encroachment” approach to SOCAS. They could say that they believe that the sanctity of faith is too improtant to allow the government to interfere with religion, so a division between religion and the government should be observed to ensure that Christian dominance of this country will remain in place

Duffer: The costs of health care are prohibitive for many Americans. The cost of education is prohibitive for many Americans. Good jobs are scarce. Ordinary Americans are having to buy groceries on credit.

Sometimes, you have to ‘live beyond your means.’ and ‘splurge’ on that doctor’s visit.

Don’t worry, you Aren’t.

We were evicted from our rock. We had to go and live in the lake! And every morning, we had to lick the road clean with our tongues, work at the mill twenty-six hours a day for tuppence every six years, and when we got home, our dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

And if you tell that to young people today, they’ll never believe you.

America didn’t actually vote “for” Clinton even once, in the sense of having a majority of the votes cast be for him. In both 1992 and 1996, most voters wanted someone else. Unlike Bush, who just won re-election with a majority of the vote (and unusually high turn out).

Right. Also “not good” were the perjury, obstruction of justice, selling pardons, firing and smearing the innocent to hand out political perks to his cronies, sexual harassment, lies, Operation Wag the Dog to avoid impeachment, etc., etc.

Pssst - Enron happened while Clinton was President.

More pssst - inflation is lower now than it was when Clinton ran in 1992.

Families? Were’nt you just talking about cars?

Heck, first it was gay marriage, now this person wants to form a family with his car. Ewwwwww!

I thought you were all upset because there weren’t jobs.

And I don’t get overtime - I’m salaried.

Sorry, don’t buy your little rant. Neither did a majority of those who vote. And therefore, we run the White House, Senate, House of Representatives, and will shortly be appointing new Justices to the Supreme Court.
Hee hee hee…

No one is asking you to keep silent. Just the opposite - everytime you spout crap like the above, you make yourselves look like fools and drive people to the other side.

By all means, carry on. Shout more loudly, rave more wildly, howl out more hysterical warnings of death and gloom.

It’s what wins the Right elections.

See y’all in 2006.

Regards,
Shodan
