In Praise Of Mumpers A Pat On The Back Mmp

Woody? I suppose. Most wainscoting (no extra t) is made of wood. It’s a dado in other terms.

But can I get rid of this Windows Vista nonsense? I want to know before I click and perhaps mess up my world… (I think a nice hole in the wainscoting would be a nice place to live–if I were a mouse, and who is to say I’m not?)
ETA: Um… down here near the floor, whooshes are not felt.

Put down the mouse and step away from the Vista!

(and the wainscoting quote was from a Monty Python sketch)

Hope. Tired. Stuffed.

Daughter’s interview apparently went well. She’ll find out tomorrow afternoon. So keep them fingers crossed!

BIL (sister’s husband) was drunk by the time we got to her place. At least he’s mostly a quiet drunk. We visited quite a while before the guests of honor showed up (like around 5 - and a bunch of us had to leave at 6) so we pretty much ate and ran. I came home with part of the upside down cake and some brownies. Num. Plus the Polish sausage my mom got for me and the shrimp my sister got. Mega-yum!

So now I’m winding down before going to bed. I’m tired.

I just need to remember to post the MMP before I leave for work. No, I won’t post it tonight. We’re getting sloppy here - you can wait till Monday Morning in the eastern time zone. so :stuck_out_tongue:

Bloody hell. I’m amazed no one’s died. I think QD works not too far from there, at around Jane and Lawrence. Not close enough to be affected, thank goodness. Where did they evacuate those 12,000 people to, I wonder?

We’ve had a good day. Got to Mass, and Nat actually let both of us stay up instead of having to take him down to the basement and stay with him. Pretty good naps, and he just cried for only fifteen minutes before conking. We’ve both noticed that he’s grumblier than he was, so I’m wondering if we’re putting him to bed too late. Might gradually ease the bedtime earlier over the next week.

Is it really? I don’t recall it. I posted and then saw a typo and as I was correcting it, I thought–I’ll bet this is a whoosh or some sort…

Our friends are far enough away that they wouldn’t have had any damage, though apparently they did hear the explosion when it happened. Not a fun way to wake up, I’d imagine.

swampus, Toronto is full of dumb combinations of industrial and residential in the same neighbourhood… I can’t say I’m all that surprised someone went and built a propane plant on the same block as an established residential community. Hell, just a few years ago, an old (but still running) abattoir in the middle of a new subdivision “mysteriously” went up in flames after an ongoing battle with the locals. Not that I’m suggesting the same thing happened with the propane plant, but the fact is, our urban planners have strange ideas about what is allowed within spitting distance of people’s homes.

The Boy informed me that my dad called while I was at work today. He’s decided to get married, which isn’t all that surprising since he’s been officially dating my future step-mom for over five years now, and has been introducing her as his “wife” for at least four years that I know of…

Problem is, they decided to pick Thanksgiving weekend for the big do. Which, of course, now means I either tell my dad I can’t go to his wedding because I always spend Thanksgiving with my mother… or I tell my mother that I’m skipping Thanksgiving for the first time in six years because my dad is marrying the woman he was sneaking around with while they were married.

Oy.

Some advice on how to tackle either conversation would be welcome. I’m still not sure what my decision will be, but it’s bound to suck no matter which way I go. :frowning:

rigs, Vista is Teh Suck. May I suggest that you go to Google and type in “Boston Globe Big Picture olympics” and click the first link for the Boston Globe website that comes up? Mucho visual stunningness, no Vista required.

It was actually something called Silverlight (?)–I dunno what it is (I know it’s an app) and I don’t want it on my hard drive, so there.

The Boston Globe pics are phenomenal. I wish I had bothered to watch–I’d like to see the precision stuff in motion. I stopped watching opening ceremonies about Turin, IMS. They always seem so… odd. But this one looks fascinating.
TH has come in with a bowl of grits. I looked at him and said, “you eat grits?” and got a scathing condemnation of my oatmeal habit. Whatever. (in 20+ years of marriage I’ve never seen him eat grits, ask me to buy grits at the store or order grits for breakfast. But he went out and bought a GFS sized box o grits today).

My life is weird.

Yep. It was rezoned and some years ago, and residents were continually complaining about the smell of propane – not through official channels mind you, so there were no complaints on official record unfortunately. Still, whomever put their John Hancock on the permit clearly didn’t think that one through too far.

Actually, I learned that one firefighter did in fact die, unfortunately. It wasn’t any physical trauma, he was apparently just surveying or scouting or something and dropped on the spot.

As for evacuation, most of them were shuttled off to York U’s campus on Steeles, but there was another evac station set up by the Red Cross somewhere.

Evidently everyone’s allowed to go back to their homes now, though many are still without power, a situation they will apparently have rectified soon, if not already. I don’t imagine some of them are going to like what they’re coming back to.

Silverlight is Microsoft’s attempt to compete with Adobe in the interactive web animation and graphics arena (i.e. Flash). It’s required for a few of Microsoft’s fancy-shmancy websites that use dynamic, interactive features, but otherwise, it isn’t exactly necessary, and I doubt Silverlight will go anywhere. Adobe pretty much has the market cornered with Flash.

That’s a toughie Muppet. Personally I’d tell dad I already had plans for Thanksgiving and that would probably be true for any other people they would want to have at their wedding. IMO, a major holiday is not the time to throw in a wedding on top of everything else.

Besides, what bride wants to compete with turkey?

Home. Am eating Cheesesteaks for dinner with N.O.T. salad.

Mork, Muppet, Yikes!

Muppet, I’d feign death till after the holidays.

FCM, a Monday MMP? You rebel!

rigs, hope the job is for you when you’re ready.

That would be the rub. I’m not happy about the compromise, but at least I can breathe again. Enjoy your dinner.

Since I wasn’t the one who asked, I’d like to nominate LitOne for the TMI award of the week. Good one!

Egads! I always knew you were a wild and crazy kind of guy. But that might just cross the line into another territory there. :stuck_out_tongue: I hope you’re having a good time in any event.

doggio, what doesn’t remind you of Haze?

It was all that talk about the spa aka Korean massage parlor. No one bought that it was for your mother. Too implausible. That whole thing gave you away. Nice try though!

**
Mork**. . . just wow! The mind boggles.

Told you I’d be home stupidly late (I started to leave around 10 and finally made it out the door at midnight). Of course, I’m very awake as well. Guess I should make an attempt to get sleepy since the alarm will be going off before I know it…

GT

Where’s that new MMP when you need it?

Here.
