In Seattle, Tuesday night is trivia night -- the 2004 thread

I don’t know about you guys, but I graduated to long pants some time ago.

We’re in - I’ve got an appointment in Shoreline at 7:05. Shouldn’t take long, but I’d say we’ll probably be there sometime between 7:30-7:45.

[sub]I hear Cervaise cried during Titanic![/sub]

Only because you wouldn’t stop with the teeth.

Well, we fell 4 points short this week, but a good time was had by…all? Hope so. Good time had by me, at any rate.

You know what, though, I’m getting tired of these “which country’s license plate abbreviation is T” questions (answer: Thailand). Is it just me, or do we always miss 'em? We should study up at this website.

Is it unsportsmanlike (or just incredibly nerdy) to study for a trivia contest? All I want is to win my bar tab back.

inkysplotchy and I have considered it. The main stumbling block is that memorizing country codes is insanely boring. It might be worth memorizing all the one-letter ones, though; that way you know 26 of them cold, and you know that, say, TH is not Thailand because that’s T.

Well, not breaking, really. More chipped than anything else.

Lady Cheek has found that there is a plethora of people at her work who are interested in forming a trivia team and as such, she has, well…formed a trivia team…with people from her work.

So.

It looks like we might have a little (vicariously through me and her) bit of a competition now. I’ve met all her “teammates,” and there’s a couple who might be able to step up to the plate and give us a run for our bar tab. But I am still confident that they will soon realize that they got nothin’ on us.

So for me and her, anyways…It’s On.

Anyone else wanna join me in my own little inter-team rivalry, feel free. But since you only really know her, don’t feel obliged to lay the smack down on people you don’t know.

I will not be there this week – my mother-in-law is in town for two days, so family duty calls. I’ll be ready for action next week, though.

(You can tell Lady Cheek that her workmates scared me off, though, if you think she’d enjoy the sense of power. Then, next week, smackdown!)

I’ll be there, with my smackdown hat.

How about Smack Down Comforter as a team name?

I shall also attend, to aid in the down-smacking.

I’m always in the mood for a good old fashioned Amish SmackDown…or is that barn raising…either way, I’ll be there.

And how did the smacking-down go?

We watched the quiz episode of The Office, but it wasn’t the same. Did you throw shoes over the George & Dragon?

Well, there were 5 of them, 5 of us (Saltire, E. Thorp, inkysplotchy, inkybud and myself).

Final score between the two teams - Us: 25, Them: 20.

We were, as suggested earlier, Smackdown Comforter, they were following a dental theme and named themselves Impacted Wisdom.

Winning team got 30 points, either Elvis, or some other people of whom we’d never heard.

Some questions we missed (don’t have them written down, this is from memory) included:

  1. What is the largest coffee-producing country in the world? We said Colombia, 'twas Brazil
  2. What is the capital of Uganda? We said Entebbe, 'twas something else.
  3. What is verminophobia? We said fear of rats, 'twas fear of germs.

At any rate, we let the score get close enough so they’ll feel encouraged to to show again, whereupon we’ll really whale on 'em!

Here I publicly apologize for swaying the team to Columbia on the coffee question. Remember, trivia is taking a week off after next week.

So is next tuesday off, or is the week after off?

Next tuesday is on(the 8th) but the 15th will ahve no contest due to football being watched.

Work will keep me away on the 8th (tonight). And on the 15th, like all (?) of us, I’ll be steering clear of the All-England pint-lifting championship. See you (probably) on the 22nd!

I will be there tonight to help continue our tradition of crushing the hopes of Aguechica’s co-workers. And her cow orkers, too!

I’ll get there around 7:00.

We’re in. Don’t know what time we’ll get there yet.

I’m pretty sure Lady Cheek’s got some people lined up for her [sub]heh[/sub] team, but I’m not sure how many there’ll be. At any rate, she’ll be working with them.

Hee.

I’m in, probably around 7:45-8:00, though.

Last week of the film fest. (Seeing 3, count 'em, 3 tonite.) I’ll be there on the 22nd.

Put Elvis back In The Ghetto!

I shall appear, though I’m uncertain exactly when.
