In Seattle, Tuesday night is trivia night -- the 2004 thread

If by well you mean having a good time chatting with The Cheeks , then yes, it went very well. If you mean by winning or coming close, then no. We came up with 22 hard earned points, but Spear Britney flexed their mental muscle and got 32. We did get some nice answers though, If I do say so meself.

We also got ot sit outside! It wasn’t too cold, and you could hear the questions being asked, which was kind of a novelty. Next week, we descend upon them like the Mongol Hordes we are, and hope there are no Poles to stop us.

What was the team name? Who-all showed up?

(And yeah, I’m still here at work. Frack.)

What was the name…? Oh yes. 1/2 Roach, a suggestion of inkysplotchy’s. I think we were all loath to use the new cool list of names for a team that was not up to capacity. In keeping with the musical theme, I suggested plain ol’ “Hank Williams” (I’m so Lonely I could Cry), but it was pointed out that someone might interpret that as “Hank Williams Jr.” And we wouldn’t want that.

In attendance was myself, Lady Cheek, and inkysplotchy. We kept an eye out for JayLa, but unfortunately, none of us knew what he/she looked like, nor did any of us get there on time to stake out one of the usual (and posted) tables. So if you were there, JayLa, apologies all around, and I hope this doesn’t sour you on showing next time.

Sorry I didn’t make it. inkysplotchy stopped by on his way home, and when I heard that you sat outside my first thought was that I should’ve gone. Then I realized that sitting in the cold air for two and a half hours wouldn’t have done my cold any good, either.

It appears that I would’ve correctly answered a depressing but probably not victorious number of questions that you guys didn’t know. Sorry. But considering how croaky I was by 10:30, it’s a good thing I didn’t go. Damn colds.

Dang! I didn’t check the outside tables. I’m a she, by the way.

I got there around 7:20 and asked around a bit but couldn’t find you. I had seen that Cervaise wasn’t going to be there but I figured what would happen is that I’d ask one table if they knew a Cecil Adams, they’d say to their friends “Cecil Adams? Any of you know a Cecil Adams?” and someone from the next table would overhear and jump up and grab me. I saw a couple groups outside but didn’t get around to wandering out there.
A couple tables that I had asked offered me a spot if I couldn’t find my friends, so around 8 I sat down with team Blofeld. We scored somewhere in the low 20s as well. It was fun - next time I have a Tuesday night free, I’d be interested in doing it again. Hopefully by then you’ll have a regular team name so I can find you more easily!

We need a Doper Flag.

Here’s another team name idea: The Manchurian Canidates…or something along those lines.

Contrary to earlier reports, I will be attending trivia tonight. Can’t get there very early – 7:15 or so is my guess – but I will be there. I was hoping we’d be able to sit outside again, since the weather yesterday was so lovely. But I forgot that we live in the Puget Sound . . .

Who else is coming?

Count me in. I’ll try to be there by 7:00.

Until we settle on a final choice of name, I think we should call ourselves “Wrath of Con Ed.”

Ooo. I like that one. I’ll be there at around 7:30ish. I could come earlier, but I think everyone would appreciate me showering after practice.

I vote for shower.

We’re in. Don’t know what time we’ll get there, but Lady Cheek has made noises about coming here straight from work.

E. Thorp is still under the weather, and says he won’t be able to make it again.

Not too far under the weather anymore, mind you, but still not inclined to inhale smoke and grease. Next week, unfortunately, my attendance will be pre-empted by concert tickets. Best of luck, and see you in a fortnight.

Changed my mind on the name. I like Wrath of Kon Tiki better.

At the risk of repeating myself:

Once again, that is all.

Yes. But I am not as short-winded as Cervaise: The Wrath was felt by one and all as we drove our enemies before us. And everyone contributed!

Interrobabe!? and I decided that a round table makes for a more pleasant trivia experience, since we’re not having to strain to hear people at the other end of the table as often. Also, echoes of King Arthur. Good to see Aguecheek, Aguechica and inkysplotchy as well.

Next week can we be Liquid Sasquatch? I find myself resistant to settling on one name.

I like changing the name (Liquid Sasquatch’s got my vote!). It adds an element of mystery and who-was-that-masked-manedness to the whole experience.

Congrats to one and all!

As for the name change, I think we need to ask ourselves: Who would win in a steel cage death match? Liquid Sasquatch or Kon Tiki?

I say LS wins by a folding chair to the back of the head. Grats on a another fine victory. I still, after looking at a map, cannot figure out the mystical 15th state that touches the Atlantic, unless Puerto Rico buckled under and I missed it.

Maybe they were thinking about those Alaskan islands that cross the international date line and are supposedly “the farthest east” part of the U.S., and got confused.

Well, I 've decided that next time I fence, I’m going for 6 minutes, and damn their silly rule book!

If it’s Tuesday, it must be time to bump the Seattle trivia thread.

I’ll be there, likely between 7:00 and 7:30.
