Super appropriate. Consistently wrong about everything. Hated the way she’d lie through her teeth with outrageous accusations and no verifiable proof to back up her claims and then strut around afterwards crowing about her superior moral turpitude.
Wait, does that sounds like someone on this board?
My wife is Dominican – she was born in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
As out first baseball season as a married couple got underway, she made me notice (primarily by cheering on Sammy Sosa) how many Dominicans were in Major League baseball. It’s a comparatively small island, after all, and the impression was that they were churning out a better-than-average percentage of MLB players. And I mentioned this to her.
Her theory was: in the Domincan Republic, a poor country, not too many kids can get their hands on baseball bats and baseballs. So in the barrios, they play a variation which uses a broomstick, and a plastic cap from five-gallon water jugs (such jugs being ubiquitous in the DR because the water is highly suspect). Basically, a kid stands at home plate swinging a broomstick handle and trying to hit a thin piece of plastic.
That’s how Sammy Sosa learned to hit, and apparently switching to a baseball bat and a baseball feels like he’s now aiming for a basketball with a two-by-four.
I have no idea how much of that is true, and how useful such early broomstick training is.
But the underlying lesson is a good one: if you train under much harder conditions that you’re really going to encounter, that’s not altogether a bad thing.
I don’t say that we should leave the obvious disparity in how liberal and conservative arguments are treated here unremarked. But I’ll also point out that at least for me, if I can float an argument here and have it survive the exacting scrutiny that this community places on it, I’m fairly confident in that argument’s utility elsewhere.
Um, the abuse **you **are getting? Still waiting for you to address the apparent hypocrisy of having posted this: Adaher: “I’m not going to let you morons win. I will actually get better at supporting my arguments, and I’ll rub your ugly faces in it.”
Plank in eye? (I believe you used that phrase recently, too?)
adaher, if you stopped posting, this board would be a better place. You are not just rude, you are actively destructive. You run into every thread you can see, knowingly posting lies and propaganda, after having been REPEATEDLY told that what you are saying is untrue, you continue over and over. You make every thread about you, and your wrongheaded bullshit. You have basically ruined the board for people who want to see intelligent debates, because instead it’s the adaher show all the time on all channels. If you were to go away, maybe actual, interesting, useful discussions could be had, rather than having to constantly debunk the propaganda you feel the need to vomit all over the walls.
This isn’t an issue of being rude vs being dumb. You ARE rude. You’re the sort of “Just because I lie and attack people with knowing untruths, as long as I pretend to be nice about it, I’m not rude” “niceness” morality that is absolute scum. You’re rude, and you’re a COWARD about it. When you were proven wrong with your bullshit about how all the polls were wrong, you ran away, refused to admit you were wrong, and acted like a total coward, coming back and suddenly spewing out more propaganda later, as if nothing had happened.
You are literally one of the dumbest, most destructive people on this board, and for you to even PRETEND that you’re being unfairly attacked, or that you’re “not rude” just being picked on for your arguments is appalling. You don’t have arguments. You have bullshit. Save the term “argument” for something that is actually worth responding to.
Okay, I’ll plead that I had a stressful day yesterday, followed by a full night of work and an hour and a half of overtime, and THAT’S why I can’t parse out the connection between the above, and the discussion of adaher’s metaphorical rhetorical batting average.*
Could you kindly walk me through it?
*Did you see what I did there? I took the theme from the baseball anecdote and used it in an extended metaphor for the subject of the thread. Not bad for a really tired guy, huh?
Pretty thorough summation of grievances. Shouldn’t there be an obese lady belting out a tune somewhere? If there’s a shortage, I can stuff my shirt and lip sync to a boom box…
Cool analogy. There are also the great tee-ball players who get to the major leagues and complain when the big meanies insist on throwing them fastballs.
Yes: adaher complains that he is being held to a high standard, and asks that even when he is wrong, people go easy on him. My story is intended to show the value in having people go hard on you; to show that if he can craft an argument that survives the hyper-rigorous attacks it encounters here, it’s likely to survive other, less exactly environments.
