In the next expansion for Sims 2: Sims get weather!

Yeah, your Sims can get one through their local Gardening Club. They might not want it, though.

Simplants have three needs: sunlight, water, and love. Water seems to be a tough one for baby plants; I let the one that comes with the expansion play in toilet water.

Only two of my families have a pet so far but neither are really having trouble. Just keep an eye or ear on the pet and try to have someone around to scold/praise at the appropraite time. Once you direct a Sim to scold/praise a pet, that pet stops whatever they’re doing.

I had a sim with two cats, and after getting them fed and petted and realizing they weren’t really doing anything, I sat back and thought, “Now what?” Then I looked at my two cats, one on top of the monitor and one on the desk, both sound asleep. “Oh.” I guess it was pretty accurate after all.

I just can’t play without hacks. I finally installed Pets recently. I had waited until they had a patch out because I’d heard about a lot of bugs. I didn’t play for long before I had to look for various hacks, like one to stop the stray you made the mistake of greeting from running into your house and eating your couch. My Sims were usually all occupied and unable to scold it until the couch was gone. So NoAutonomousCheworScratch was added. Got tired of the toddlers eating the pet food, so downloaded a hack for that. Downloaded a hack to be able to adopt any stray because you’d spend a lot of time building a relationship with one and almost be at the point where you could adopt them and then they wouldn’t come back for days until the relationship was down about 30 points. I don’t really think of hacks as cheating but as fixing the annoyances that EA Games couldn’t be buggered to fix. The pets are adorable though. I love watching the Sim cat as much as I love watching my cats.

Anyway, I’ll probably wait a while before I get Seasons to make sure they get a patch out for all the bugs they’ve probably left in the game. I’ll probably get it though just for the Penguin.

I wonder what would happen if a male simplant got abducted by aliens.

Yes and it can scare the bejeezus out of you if you have your sound up.

That’s called Boolprop. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can also bathe them in the tub for Water.

About to spoil the heck outta the game:

I am so in love with this game right now. I’ve had it for a week now and I still smile and get all misty eyed when the snow starts falling. I was actually beginning to get worried that I was getting bored with my Sims, but Seasons makes the game so much more random!

Winter has been the most fun for me, probably because being in Florida I never get to see any snow. First thing I did was set my hood for Winter, Spring, Summer, and then Fall. In the winter you can really build up family relations - they get a big social boost then and roll up a lot of family-type Wants.

I love the added challenge of keeping their temps just right. Don’t watch them in the hottub and they can spontaneously combust. Leave them building snowmen for too long and they can freeze solid. I tried to freeze a vampire around sunrise, but unfortunately he was abducted by aliens before his temp dropped low enough. :stuck_out_tongue:

Fall is amazing with the colors and leaves falling (though they can be a pain to keep up with raking, if you care about outdoor environment score). Fall gives a huge boost for skill learning. When a Sim studies, the meter above their heads get swirling leaves around it to show you’re getting a boost.

Summer looks pretty much like standard ol’ Sims pre-weather, but you get some showers occasionally and it is easier to build up friendships. The new water effects on the pools are amazing and I love that you can now change the pool walls and floors and have rounded corners. Also, watching them play Timle Torneau is too cute - they’ll actually do a ‘fish out of water’, sneak around the pool and jump back in. Speaking of ‘jumping back in’ they can now do that! Don’t worry - ladders are still required for getting out.

Remember earlier discussion about needing a ‘leftovers’ option? Yes, there is one now. You click on your half eaten plate of food, or the platter of sandwiches and ‘Put Away Leftovers’ which can sit in your fridge indefinitely and can be retrieved and eaten by children without an adult having to fix it for them.

I adore the new fishing ability and frankly I thought it would be the last thing I’d have my Sims doing but it is fun to see all the different fish you can catch, the different meals they can make with them, and it is definitely a bonus that fresh food fills hunger so quickly!

I’m also having a great time with one family that has a garden and some orchard trees. The mom stays at home and tends the greenhouse all day. You can sell the produce for simoleans, give them as gifts (also new interaction!), stock them in your fridge, or juice them. You can also juice the boot you can catch by accident while fishing - hilarious!

PlantSims - directly related to the Jolly Green Giant, if you ask me! I gave mine freckles and she looks so cute! I’m a little disappointed they only have 3 life stages; Toddler, Adult, & Elder. I think if a male PlantSim was abducted by aliens then it would be a standard alien pregnancy since they only reproduce PlantSims asexually by sporing them. Like with Vampires, if you get them pregnant by conventional means, you get a regular Sim baby.
The spores of happiness are fun though.

I love the rain. I’ve always enjoyed those nature-type soothing cassettes with rainstorms. It is very relaxing to listen to the thunder rumbling in the off distance with the rain pitter-pattering on the leaves and ground. 'Course, just as you’re lulled into a sedated, cozy state watching your Sim reading to their child in front of a fire is about the time a huge bolt of lightening strikes the tree next to the house, setting it on fire and almost causing you to piss yourself.

I haven’t even been through all the new objects that came with Seasons, though I have tried out the ice skating and roller rinks.
Dogs can now eat the snow and it is too funny to watch a small breed dog trying to relax on the ground - they almost disappear under the snow!

Wile E - I know what you mean about having to have your hacks! One that this game needs (if you have Nightlife) is a hack to keep the vampires hammered in their coffins so they don’t keep jumping out to go look at the pretty snow and burning. I have the smart coffin hack from DJS, but it is not updated to stop the ‘oooh, snow’ action from raising them up. I’m surprised with how quickly the hacks were updated for Seasons! I’m missing one, maybe two hacks that updates are still pending for, but that’s it.
I have to admit though, I like the fact the Toddlers can eat from the pet dishes - it fills their hunger and my Sim parents don’t have to get out of bed before they are ready just to grab a bottle. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, can PlantSims get Vampirized? (Shades of “Audrey II” from Little Shop of Horrors" here)

Hmm, VegiSims, wonder if that means one could create a Delvian P’Au…

it’d fit right in with my Farscape themed town…
Chiana
Scorpius (well, Harvey, actually…)
Commandant Cleavage
John Crichton
and Aeryn Sun…

Dang it all! You make it sound soooo fun and interesting!

I am glad to see they fixed the leftovers thing. It’s silly that children can’t feed themselves some things, like leftovers or cereal, and are stuck with only snacks and “muffinsasbigastheirheads”.

Have you been visited by the penguin?

The toddler pet food hack I have only removes autonomous pet food eating, you can still direct them to eat it. I just got tired of having to constantly stop them from visiting the pet bowl while I was having an adult go get them a bottle. This way I can still have them eat it when I want them to … everyone’s busy just eat the pet food brat!

I can’t wait for tomorrow!!! I might bug someone to get it for me tonight.

I am so excited about this expansion!!

The only expansion I have is Nightlife. I’m not interested in University, OFB, or Pets. Frankly, the pets in Sims 1 just pissed me off! I had a dog who hated his owner. How crappy is that?

But I can’t wait for my birthday - the ONE thing I’m asking for is Seasons. I’m thrilled to hear that it’s just as good as I’d hoped.

Only a few more weeks to go.

There is. I’ve heard that the hacked computer at ModtheSims2 has already been updated so you can order the cure from there. Or the potion that turns them into plantsims too.

As for me, I’m having fun recoloring the new outerwear. See?

Perhaps slightly OT, but I got the Seasons expansion for my daughter, and she says that it won’t work with Pets (no details, she just hit me with it late last night). Anyone have information on that?

Won’t work in what way, exactly? It works find with Pets for most people, which is what it’s supposed to do.

However, if she has hacks (you find those in the Ea Gams/Sims 2/Downloads folder) in her game that are meant for Pets then she is going to get game errors. Especially if she’s got a hack called InTeenimater in her game - if look at the RTFM doc the maker says several times that it’s not going to work with new eps and to remove it until the new versions come out. Several other hacks have to be updated too. Even if you don’t go looking for hacks you can pick up hacks from downloading lots, so have her move the downloads folder to the desk top and see if that changes anything when she next runs it.

Elfkins right- you need to have all the hacks out of the game. I keep my hacks in a special folder so they’re easy to remove.

I always run Clean Installer before I install a new expansion pack. If she dowloads a lot of houses sometimes the hacks are in the house. If you need a link for Clean Installer, let me know. It checks you game for hacks. (Gets most, but not all).

If she still has problems, delete the group cache file.

Are they your recolors? Great Job!!

Heh, yeah you can have a vampire plantsim. They are a little harder to manage, but you can buy a very expensive ‘sun lamp’ for indoors.

Because it is, I tell you! The weather is so unpredictable even the little weatherman in the game can’t keep up with it sometimes.
Just because it is Winter, don’t expect it to always snow and just because it is Spring doesn’t mean you won’t have a snow day. Did I mention kids can get snow days now? You get a little pop up and they can stay home to catch up on homework or play in the snow (helps if you have the ‘homework sometimes’ hack :stuck_out_tongue: ).

You mean burntmuffinsasbigastheirheads”

Lots of times. I even caught it cutting through my house one day. Your Sim can pet it on the head and it talks to scarecrows and snowmen, and steals your fish if you leave one out on the ground.

Kibble for kids.
I have pet dishes in houses that don’t even have animals.
I also have the toddler floor blanket so they don’t have to be taken out of their cribs. That one is a must-have for me. Plus the kid can just crawl right back on it and back to sleep after the freakin’ nanny picks him up to give him that fifth bottle while his energy is bottomed out.

Definitely no problem here with Pets.
I thought I had read some mention of people having problems with the digital download of the game from EA Link that would somehow supposedly uninstall Pets when installing Seasons, but searching the forum I frequent I can’t find mention of it now. Probably user error anyways.

As for hacks, one of these days I’m going to download an incompatible InSimenator and run the game one time without saving, just so I can see Death go on a downtown killing spree. :stuck_out_tongue:

Clarification: I passed on the responses (for which my thanks), and she said that there was no problem loading the expansion or running the game. The difficulty was that the next time she fired it up, it warned her that all her pets would be deleted if she went ahead. She did, and they were.

She’s now evaluating the seasons to see if she likes it before (re)creating her pets. If having seasons means that she can’t have pets, the pets take preference.

Oh, and she had no hacks. I doubt that she knew/knows that such things exist — when it comes to computers, she’s pretty plain-vanilla (her sister is the uber-user).

Anyway, thanks again for the information and suggestions.

I had the exact same prompt come up while reinstalling everything; it was because I had forgot to install Pets as I had left it in the computer hutch.
I canceled, installed Pets, and once it was done installing it prompted me to insert Seasons to play.
It most definitely works with pets.

This might be a bit off-topic, but I only have the base game and am planning on getting Seasons as my first expansion. What exactly do I have to disable or back up before I install it? I’ve downloaded a lot of user-created content, mostly clothes, hair, and other bodyshop things, but a few hacks as well (Insiminator, same gender marriage, a handful of user-created careers, etc). I’ve read that I need to disable any hacks before installation (that seems logical, but what about the custom careers? If I temporarily remove them, what happens to the sims that have those jobs?) and make sure none of my sims were at work (this one’s a bit odd)? Can I leave the hacks that I know are updated to work with Seasons, or do all of them have to go for the installation?

I wouldn’t just in case. Who wants to lose all of their downloads? Do you have Clean Installer? It’s a great program that finds duplicate downloads and ID’s hacks. I think there’s a link for it at MTS2. If you can’t find it I’ll look around for it for you.

I know some careers cause problems and I had problems with Insimenator and had to remove it. MTS2 might have a list of hacks that are incompatable. Various Simmers forum might too.

How about if she removes her download folder and tries to reinstall just pets?
