Looks super cool. I’ll definitely buy this one on release date. The video practically had me drooling.

As if it isn’t bad enough you have to watch your character’s bladder, now you have to watch your pet’s, too. I wonder if the maid would balk at cleaning up accidents and changing cat litter.
This bit of blurb sounds enticing:
“Pets Have Genetics
Cross different breeds to create designer pets or make new ones and register them to appear in Create-A-Family as a unique breed.”
There’s a great Daffy Duck cartoon where Daffy is conversing with the artist drawing the cartoon, angers him, and has his body erased and replaced by this freakish, ungainly collection of absurd body parts. I want one of them.
I am so glad this is the next expansion if just to shut up thos whining brats in the sims BBS. GAH! They acted like not having pets in the sims was a heinous crime.
I never had the pet expansion for the first Sims, so I’m looking forward to giving it a try.
I wonder if you’ll be able to track a pet’s family tree?
I’m not overly excited or anything. Mostly because I’m taking a bit of a break from the Sims right now. Darned legacy families burned me out. Anyway, pets should be pretty fun. It looks like we’ll have a whole lot more interactions with them than before. The puppies and kittens look super cute. I’m sure I’ll be buying it.
My daughter and I want this…it looks really cool! The last EP we bought was University…and that kind of sucked…very predictable.
It’ll be blue, just like the sims, too ;p
Yes, there will be a pet family tree.
If any of you guys want a more extensive place to chat about pets, you can go here: Sims 2 Pets Chatterbox. It’s a subforum that was opened yesterday and will exist until sometime after the EP is released (then will be locked, but readable, and all new threads will go into the chat forum).
The base site is http://www.sims2community.com, and the chat forum is what I read the most.

Looks like I’m a every-other-expansion pack type player.
Got Univercity and loved it.
Did not think much of turning my Sims into vampires, so I didn’t get Nightlife.
I thought the Back in Business would be something like Univercity where we’d go to work with the Sims. But it turned out that work came to the house. I haven’t really gotten a good handle on it. Need much more practice.
Don’t care about pets.
Do you know what I HATE about the expansions? If you skip one and decide later you want it, you have to delete the whole damn game and start over again. At least that’s what happened with me and my original Sims.
I never really got a handle on business, either. And I was very much looking foward to it. But I am excited about Pets! How badly can I mess up pets?
As long as we’re having a Sims thread, maybe I’ll throw out some of my questions/comments about Business …
Is is even possible to have a restaurant that makes money? I cannot get the hang of it, there just doesn’t seem to be a way to have all the employees I need on the lot to do the different jobs, and enough customers who will eat quickly enough to clear their table for new customers.
I don’t like how home businesses will count the income of the Sims who still go to work and come home with a paycheck. I never have a sense of how my business is doing because that big check goes in every day.
I’ve never gotten the hang of having businesses outside of the home. Maybe because I haven’t tried all that hard. One thing I did have fun with was to start a legacy family and make a home-based business the only form of income. It’s much more difficult than traditional legacies with promotions, bonuses, etc., but I found it to be challenging and therefore fun.
I find it interesting that there are others who find Open For Business not as exciting as originally thought. I was so psyched for it, and for some reason, I’ve yet to have a successful business of any kind, so I’ve more of less forgotten about it.
Come to think of it, I’ve stopped playing it at all for the last couple of months because I tried something new and had a bunch of kids from different families go to the same dorm at Sim State University… Now there are 4 of them about to graduate in a semester or two, and the thought of now starting 4 **more ** households just boggled my mind into oblivion.
Pets does look cool, and I definitely intend to get it. I gave up on The Original Sims way before Unleashed, so I never played with pets there, but The Sims 2 is so much better (IMO) that I doubt I’ll ever get tired of it. Overwhelmed, yes. Tired, nope
BTW, am I the only one who remembers a Sims 2 official chat where they swore up and down that there would be pets in a future EP but that it would not be a theme all by itself? They lied, those bastards
I really want to try the Sims out, but I don’t want to buy a game that I am not sure if I want.
Any suggestions?
I always get the expansions. There is always something worthwhile.
The origianl Sims 2, I liked the fully 3D world. Kids were actually interesting, and it was challenging and rewarding figuring it all out. The jump bug sucked, funds and aspiration points were tight, but generally it worked well.
Then came University. Finally a way to make some more money. More slots meant more aspiration points. Playing plain old sims kinda sucked afterward. College life was challenging at first, but after a while building up the houses handling 8 students at a time was a breeze.
Night life freed up aspiration points like Uni did funds. A couple of dream dates can buy an elixer. More to do, and popularity sims finally were fun to play.
OFB is the the redemption of the non-uni sim. So what if your sim doesn’t have a degree, not needed to run a top leve business. This is still very challenging. Oh, and I love snapdragons!
This seems as good a place as any to ask. Is it worth getting the Family Fun Stuff pack? Amazon has it for $16.
I got it. I don’t know that anyone other than a completist would want it. It does not add much, mainly cute stuff for children, clothes, furniture, etc. but the beds it adds are not very good for energy/comfort so I don’t use them. It is buggy, so if you do get it, be sure to patch immediately.
Maybe it would be better to use the same money to get 6 months of access to The Sims Resource then.
I’ve found there’s plenty of free content available out there that’s pretty good. Here are some sites that I like.
The Well Dressed Sim - www.welldressedsim.com
Simmetrical - www.simmetrical.com
Parsimonius -http://parsimonious.org/
The Sims Resource also has some free content. I have some other free content sites bookmarked at home. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll post them here.
Thanks for the links. I’ve bookmarked them.
Do you have a home console system (e.g.: Playstation 2)? If so, you can rent a Sims game for that and see how you like it.
