Back up your entire downloads folder before you install Seasons. If you’re really paranoid you can back up your neighborhoods too.
Once you’ve got the expansion safely installed, you can put all the bodyshop stuff back into your downloads. Your object recolors ought to be okay too. (unless you have some from the fall of 2004 to Feb 2005 still. They might turn blue and flash in the game if they were never converted to the new format that arrived with University. If you have that problem there’s a way to fix them with Simpe).
Don’t put your careers back in. If I were you, I’d make a list of them and google them (or revisit the sites you got them from, if you bookmarked them.) Custom careers often conflict with expansions, just like hacks. I’ve never used a custom career, but I sort of understand how they’re affected when the game engine is altered by an expansion. Hopefully there will be updated versions of your favorites for download.
Same thing with hacks, if you have any. You need to see which ones work as-is and which were/will be updated by revisiting those sites.
Hm, guess if I have a sim on one of those unupdated custom careers, I’m going to have to get them a new job before installing the expansion, huh? Ah well, I’ll think of it as layoff season at their company.
I ran into the problem of ‘Pets has been uninstalled’ myself, with the regular vanilla CD versions installed on my comp. (All expansion packs installed.) Installed Seasons, ran it, claimed that Pets had been uninstalled. Considering that I had been playing it just the day before, color me . I exited out without letting it delete anything.
A quick check on my hard drive showed that yes, Pets was still sitting in the folders it was installed in. So I simply reinstalled Pets on top of itself and Seasons ran without a hitch.
My only guess is that the Seasons installer borked some registry entries, which would make the Pets install ‘invisible’ to the Sims.
Just wanted to report that I finally got Seasons on Saturday and I love it! It’s probably my favorite expansion to date. My favorite part, of course, is the leftovers option. I’ve been bitching about that for what, two years? Yet with all my complaining I never expected to actually get to put leftovers in the frig. It’s truly delightful.
I also love the gardening and fishing options. My sims aren’t spending much time calling for grocery delivery anymore. Fishing is fabulous. I also like outerwear and being able to set different hairstyles for different outfits.
I’m sure there’s much more that I haven’t discovered yet, but so far I’m very pleased. I’m really surprised how much I like this expansion, so much more than Pets! Weird, I thought it would be the exact opposite.
I haven’t even touched the Sims since my son was born last August. I don’t know if it was because it takes so long to get started, or because I felt awkward raising virtual families when I had a real one waiting for me in the next room. Anyway, I decided to start playing again and ordered Pets and Seasons last Friday. They should be here later this week or first thing next week.
For the patches, do I need to load the Pets patch before I install Seasons, or can I install them both and then deal with patching?
I’d advise doing Pets, patch, Seasons, patch, just to be on the safe side, but I did Pets, Seasons, patch, patch and haven’t seen any problems so far (but I just got into the game as a test; I didn’t play.)
BTW, whenever my Sims go out in winter, they automatically change into outerwear. Is it possible to make them stop doing that?
As long as it is cold enough, they’re going to change. They use Outerwear through a good bit of Spring too, in my experience.
There may be a hack that will allow you to decide whether or not they wear it, but besides that you can change them back with the coat rack though you may have to put it outside. Otherwise they’ll go in, change to Everyday wear, and change right back to Outerwear as soon as they leave the house again…I’m pretty sure.
The biggest problem I’m having right now is my visitors overheating in hot tubs.
I had the Aspiration reward hot tub on one of my Uni lots and a student stayed in there so long she caught fire as soon as she got out. Not a big deal because she wasn’t one of mine, but then one of mine came up to gawk and caught fire from the first girl. I put the hot tub away after that.
I had problems with the older version of Insim, but with the Seasons version, I’m not having any problems - if you haven’t updated your Insim version, you might want to do so.
I’m also waiting for the Inteenimator to be updated, but as long as I’ve got the Insim, I’m mostly happy.
Yep, got them both. Though not before the dad in one of my families brought the baby to work with him one day. Poor kid came home starving and with a seriously dirty diaper.
Now that I’ve gotten the hang of the new gameplay stuff, I’m building a pretty cool farmhouse. I adore the new wallpapers and floors, and can’t wait to build the swimming pool. This place will also have a pond and a greenhouse.
If you have Family Fun Stuff, the underwater wallpaper for the kids room makes a cute pool siding.
One oddity - I was playing with my Japanese family last night and they went through the whole garden club routine and earned a wishing well. I purposefully overused it last night to see what would happen. Flames shot up out of it and the bag of money my Sim wished for fell directly on her head. All that was totally expected as per what I’ve read, but when she got hit on the head, her bladder dropped drastically!
Concussion = bladder loss?
My pleasure. I feel the same way about the freakin’ coffee cups.
My must-haves from that link:
antibabylecture.zip - won’t lecture the baby for pooing its diaper like a baby does. antibusinessdecay.zip - money earned remotely by businesses won’t drop down just because you don’t physically visit the lot every other day. antiwatchout.zip - won’t drop your queue because they have to ‘watch out!’ for that parked car. antiweatherreaction.zip - removes the ‘React to weather’ icon that makes your Sims get out of bed at 3am to check out that it’s snowing. coffeecuphack.zip - will force Sims to put them directly in the dishwasher ffsdebugger.zip - a box that has different fixes and goodies, like the headmaster fix, and ‘Make me Smart’ option. lesswhiny.zip - keeps the bastages from whining about every little thing. marriage-postmortum.zip - fixes it so widows and widowers can marry again marriage-traditional.zip - so everyone can get married instead of same sex couples ‘joining’ missingmanagerfix.zip - Fixes it so if you have a manager you won’t get the ‘who are you trying to call’ message when checking in with your business. noagediscrimination.zip - so elders can get real jobs and fulfill those LTW’s.
nocorruptdeath.zip - just that - fixes the errors that can happen when a Sim dies (usually results in ‘squiggly’ or ‘jagged’ lines appearing while gossiping) nocrybabies.zip - just because you got your butt whooped does not mean you get to stop what you’re doing and cry about it for the next 3 days. Ya whimp. :dubious: noeatcrap.zip - prevents Sims from eating spoiled food and keeps Sims with good body/fitness from overeating. nolamehires.zip - Sims that already have jobs won’t appear in your hire list. noreassign.zip - keeps your dumb ass managers from reassigning everyone. nowhatsthis.zip - Stops them from running over to check out every new thing. phonehack.zip - This is the most important hack evah! Keeps strangers from harassing you, keeps your Sim talking on the phone until relations reach 100% or you tell them to hang up, makes friends and family with scores dropping to around 50% call you up to chat, and keeps your Sim in contact with other family members by having them call you, even if that relationship is at 0. pianofix.zip - Stops pianos from losing their Fun stat after a while. stereohack.zip - I’ll decide if I want the stereo on or off, tyvm! vampwerefixes.zip - straightens out a few glitches related to them, like werewolves not losing their fur during daylight hours, and keeps vampires from Blehing everyone.
I have a few more than that from the list, but those are the ones I always check on first for updates when installing something new.
Have fun with it!
I know a lot of people worry about hacks, but that’s why I only get mine from the same 2 or 3 creators - so they’ll be compatible. And those guys at MATY know their stuff. I’ve been using their hacks ever since I first started cheating.
One other thing I recommend is to hide one of those FFS Lot Debuggers on every lot. They come in really handy sometimes, to retrieve missing Sims, nuke stuck bills, check a Sims temperature, etc. Each of those .zips comes with a file RTFM. I just rename that file to the same name as the hack so I can keep them together in case I ever need to refer to the ‘owners manual’.
Do you know of a mod that fixes it so my Sims don’t eat all the time? I can never leave Free Will on any lots, because they’re always going to the fridge and fixing something to eat, even when their hunger meter is only 1/4 empty.
