In this era of cell phones, who leaves written notes for their spouse?

I like this. It’s like… posting something on one’s blog or BBS together.

Does anyone use those magnetic refrigerator words? I am strangely-fascinated by them.

When was the last time you left a note for your spouse?[/QUOTE]

If my wife is asleep and I have to go out unexpectedly, I leave a note. Cell phones don’t work very well in that situation. And it would seem callous to just expect her to try my cell when she wakes up and finds I’ve gone out. So, a note it is.

My SO and I both have cellphones, but she leaves me notes in the house from time to time. This is especially on days in which she wakes up earlier than I do to go to work. For example:

Left on the fridge door: “I left a some pancakes for you in the oven.”

Left on the TV screen: “Be sure to take the clothes out of the dryer.”

Left on my desk: “Please take the garbage out!”

I don’t have a cell phone, and I don’t know my husband’s cell phone number (unless I call from our home phone, where it’s programmed). I leave him notes taped to the front door, or the fridge, or his computer monitor, or his shoes, when I need to communicate something after he’s asleep.

I also put reminder notes (“Pick up milk, coffee, and diapers,” etc.) in his lunch bag, but I usually add something a little smutty and shocking (“and a new set of handcuffs, since we broke the old set last night…”) That was fun when a former business partner of his would rummage through the lunch to see what I’d sent that day, and find those notes.

In my family, if there’s a phone message, we generally just write a note (or at least, we’re supposed to. There have been some issues with my brother neglecting to pass on phone messages). The only time we’ll actually call about that is if it’s a really important call.

We also leave notes about where we are, if it’s someplace like the gym. We make sure to leave a note when we’ve walked the dog, as she’s likely to try to get another walk out of the next human to come along, despite the fact that in this heat, she really should take some time to rest in between.

I do my best to leave my wife a silly little note in her email every morning before I go to work… she leaves her email minimized, so I start a new message in really big type and a different color… then re-minimize it… when she then goes to get back in her email, she gets her note! I also leave her notes in the checkbook after I balance it, and little post its…

She also sends me Good Monring emails timed to be there when I sign on at work… and sometimes she’ll write stuff on my little sandwich boxes and baggies.

So, yeah, we’re all cute and stuff.

Celebrated 14 years this past Monday!
