In which a certain shop owner is reviled.

So, CarnalK , have you changed your opinion about SBSO having stage managed indignation?
I often wondered why Randy was in use in the US, doesn’t randy mean, well, randy over there?
In my part of the U.S., randy means “having an active libido” as opposed to “all hot and bothered and drooling while they look for a place to drop their pants” which is the impression I get of the word in (some) British novels.
. . . . Oh yeah-- can someone kindly post a guide as to who is in what clique? I may want to apply for membership to one. Maybe somebody will think I am cool enough, and wear pretty enough clothes!
I see the problem: you’re supposed to be pretty and wear cool clothes.

You’ll correct that by next semester, right? I’m seeing Hollisters is having a great back-to-school sale on some cool kneepants.
So, have you changed your opinion about SBSO having stage managed indignation?
Not really - but it doesn’t affect my comments here in the slightest. I’m not the type to choose up sides in an argument and then throw reality out the window while defending everyone on “my side”.

Guess I wouldn’t make a very good lawyer, huh? :stuck_out_tongue:

So given what you have pointed out to be SBSO’s stage managed indignation in the pervert threat, you do not perceive any stage managed indignation by him in his Cafe thread?
First, tell me: Are you still defending your comment that “You know that something is not right when you come across someone slinging little balls of deficate derision at Jodi”. And is that comment essentially saying: “if someone is mad at Jodi, you know the guy’s a troll”.

I don’t know if he is a troll or not. If I was certain that he was, I would never have encouraged him to join the Boards as I did. His disproportionate aggression toward Jodi suggests to me that something is not right. Could very well be he is a troll, or as you put it, he stage manages his indignation; could be it is in his nature to embark on controversial discussions only take offence and then strike out far to easily, essentially biting off more than he can chew and then getting upset; could be he was simply posting drunk or was under some sort of stress at the time he posted. I don’t know why he did what he did, but quite frankly, it does not pass the sniff test.

Now, my little tourettes sufferring compadre, I ask you a second time, do you think his response in the cafe thread was stage managed?
What does the shop sell, anyways?
This is a local shop, for local people - there’s nothing for you here.

I’m back (a bit later than I expected, but some things came up).

There was nothing disproportianate about my agression towards Jodi. She was being very rude - and lets, face it, my credibility was at stake. I didn’t take offence as such, and in fact was (and am) pretty laid back. But sometimes you have to be forceful to make a point, you know?
I normally don’t pit people, but this cretin, this waste of bandwidth … guhhhhhhhhh!

Look, Small British Shop Owner, let’s take this in order:

 1. The Cafe Society isn’t supposed to be “high brow,” by whatever fucking, in-bred notions of what you think appropriate. Feel free to avoid the place, or maybe start a sufficiently “high brow” forum of your own. And when you pit a forum, pit it, damnit. This is the Pit, moron.
I’m not the person who created the forum descriptions! I was looking for discussion of a MPSIMS nature, it just seemed to me that I had to put it in the pit.
2. Your threads are … irritating, irrelevant and petty. We could care less about your username, or any of the proposed alternatives.
I don’t see it as my duty to aim all of my threads at the lowest common denominator.
Example. This is resolvable by use of a dictionary. And yet this is in GD?!
It isn’t resolvable by use of a dictionary. I’m asking what it means to be a professional - the OED will not resolve that.
Example. Are you kidding me? CS is too “low brow”? And yet you’re loading up IMHO with this trivial nonsense?
See above.
This is actually appropriate for MPIMS, but really?! I’m breathlessly waiting for a thread by you about how you’re late changing your car’s oil.
Actually, I am a bit late changing my car’s oil…

But the purpose of that thread was to explain to people why my posts might be illegible.
And then there’s this.
I was hoping someone could tell me something about the phone number (as I don’t know anything about the meaning behind Tunisian numbers.
And then there’s this,

inspired by this.

And this.
I don’t see anything wrong with any of the above.
To be fair, you have, on occasion, produced a useful thread, and at times produced reasonable posts. But you seem to have not absorbed any significant amounts of SDMB Culture, and seem intent on irritating the posters round you. You don’t even bother to do the most basic self-study in how this board is administered.
This might be true spirtually. I’m working on it.
Can i tack on a complaint of my own?

In this thread, the OP asks “How many conventional cruise missiles to sink the USS Missouri?”

In response, Small British Shop Owner asserts: When asked to provide more information about his claim, he simply says:I’'ve always believed that i bit of informed speculation should be tolerated in GQ, but this sort of thing is just bullshit. It’s almost literally “My post is my cite,” and that crap doesn’t fly.
In retrospect this was pretty stupid behaviour by yours truely.
I think part of the problem is that there is so much of him. Right now he’s got 6 threads up on the various front pages. He’s started 31 threads in his 20 days here, has over one hundred posts just today. For someone who tends to annoy it doesn’t help that he turns up so often. SBSO, I think you’d get a better reception here if you just focus on one thread at a time (of your own threads) for instance.
Partly this is because I am naturally a bingey, hyperactive person (I’d have made a lot more than one hundred posts had it not been for the pesky anti-flooding system). But it’s also because I like to do things fully if possible.
I wonder who’s minding his shop while he’s online.
In all honesty, I don’t do very much in the shop these days, as I have more important things to be getting on with.
Guest jumping in here - please don’t take away a guest’s ability to start a thread. Some of us come in here all polite and sweet and just spend some time looking around, occasionally posting a reply, being respectful to the board. I promise not to get obnoxious until I pay my monies.

But yeah, that tiny British shop proprietor has been all over the ‘effin place. I think we signed up around the same time, and he’s freakin’ everywhere, posting on every topic (not unlike another recent user with a very unoriginal name). First of all - it’s not possible that you have a relevant opinion on every thing posted here, and even if you think you do - can’t you just shut up?

I’ve been lurking about the SDMB for a few years now, and I have a certain respect for the community. Not to be an ass-kiss, but I feel I need to earn my place here, not just bust in, broken keyboard a-blazing, and stick my nose into every nook I see.

Just my two cents.
I am fairly brash. You, I believe, are probably fairly shy (but also more thoughtful :)). It takes all kinds, and I don’t think that restrictions are the way to deal with it. But of course I respect the moderators’ judgements.
After you write your post, preview it. Read it. Think about it for a moment or two. Have some tea or some beer. About 50% of the time (YMMV) you’ll decide to close the window before hitting submit. Unless you’re adding content or information you’re not helping. A question in GQ is not asking for the opinions of every member who reads the post.
This would lead to me posting (very) drunk!
As for SBSO, he annoyed me initially (something about anorexia as a cure for obesity rubbed me the wrong way), but I hope he stays. Of course, to do that, he’d need to become a member, which creates a certain amount of legitimate interest in the board that being a guest does not. Just my two cents.
I won’t dig that thread up again, but I wasn’t advocating anorexia as a cure for obesity, I was advocating more pressure to become anorexic as an obesity cure, but on the macro level.

Nah. You didn’t answer my question so I’m not going to answer yours.

And why do we have so many Dicks in national politics?

CarnalK, I directly answered your question, and of course I stand by my posts. Now, for the third time, do you find SBSO’s indignation in his cafe thread to be stage managed?

Would it not be more polite to ask me? I’ll even give you a straight answer!
