Yep, gotta go with this.
It doesn’t seem like she’s doing much dancing in that video. It’s mostly just high-stepping across the stage. If she’d just hold still, she’d look like a girl that was a little drunk and a little bored at a concert. I’d expect to see that by a girl that was taking a break from the dance floor but was still feeling the rhythm. Something like you might dance in your car, where you’re not really trying.
Hey, speak for yourself - some of us are EXCELLENT car dancers!
Agreed. She has rythym and control of her body. She knows what she’s doing. She’s fooling around (to a different song, no less). The folks who are knocking her are missing a joke and a pretty obvious one. When was the last time a hipster was sincere in any endeavor aside from angst?
Nah, I’m going keep to my position.
Watch her first five steps. The first two or three coincide with a snare, and then…what happens? It doesn’t matter whether it’s the right song or not, her timing is not consistent.
Now you’ve raised it, yeah, she probably is deliberately dancing bad, I’ll give you that…
But if you watch someone who’s a good dancer trying to dance badly, they’re hysterical. Because they can do all kinds of funny movements while still keeping the timing, and still giving the effect of someone actually trying to dance.
Even if she’s deliberately dancing badly, I doubt she’s a good dancer.
actually, rather enjoyable to watch, very active and seems to be enjoying himself.
Dancing as a form of entertainment for others - no, she’s just bad. That’s not because I’m spoiled by TV or anything - she’d get rejected for the small town’s local talent show.
But dancing as a form of entertainment for yourself? If you’re having fun, you’re doing it right.
She’s probably better than most people attempting the same routine. On the other hand, if I was her, I wouldn’t want anyone to see me dancing.
She is kinda hot. That helps.
Man you guys are so off. She would not be trying out for the local Junior League talent show with that routine nor is it intended to look like something from Dancing with the Stars. Some folks in this thread are coming off mighty square.
I would love to do an age (among other traits) poll of the responders to this thread. My guess is that most of the “she can’t dance” crowd are either over 35 or don;t know many hipsters - maybe both
64, and sometimes it kinda hurts.
She seems plenty old enough for me to naughty fantasies about. But, alas, too young for me to actually act on those fantasies. So, she’s “cute”.
I watched the first minute and wasn’t inspired to watch more…she seemed unsteady on her feet, not really moving to the music, just stepping around…no real moves. Sorry…I think you were grooving on something other than her dancing skills.
Wow, way to be condescending.
I’m 28 and I’ve never seen Dancing with the Stars. If the hip new thing is ironic bad dancing then I’m glad this fad has passed me by. Maybe this woman CAN dance well, but she sure isn’t doing so in the video.
In all fairness, that song seems like it would be difficult to dance well to.
I’m 25, and I haven’t seen it either. I don’t think you have to be a hipster to know from good dancing (in fact, probably helps if you aren’t–okay, I keed). That woman may be good in the Napoleon Dynamite it’s so ironic way, but she doesn’t make me want to see more of that dancing. I’m not super knowledgeable about music, but when I think of people who I want to see more of in terms of dancing/rhythm, I think of performances like Michael Jackson’s Motown 83 performance, or people like Elvis or James Brown. People that make you feel that for them dancing’s not about thinking, that it’s as natural as breathing.
You know that guy Matt that dances all over the world? He’s definitely not a good dancer. Yet he is infinitely more watchable than the subject of this OP, because he looks like he’s having a great time (& also, of course, he’s in neat places like the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro or Mongolia).
Yeah, probably
I think maybe my initial attraction was probably that I could relate to her, rather than the pulling off of any amazing moves. She’s just grooving around. That’s good! I do that!, I thought, but, oh, YouTube thinks is the Most Embarrassing Thing Ever. I guess I should have asked “Is this woman a terrible dancer? Like, notably terrible?”, but too late now.
Like mangeorge said, she’s just dancing. I like that too. Like how the best singers are sometimes people who can’t actually sing? On reflection, this may be another Offbeat wolf-alice Opinion ©, though, so YMMV.
Re. the context of the video - the raddled bearded types that come on stage towards the end of the video are the band (and if you want to see some dancing that even I will agree is a little fringe, check out Tim Harrington), so it strikes me as something they shot on a whim on tour, perhaps - like she might be a band wife or part of the sound crew or something. I don’t think it’s something unrelated re-set to the music.
Ugh. Painful to watch.
Haha, it was. I seriously can’t even get through the entire video because it bothers me to watch. People here are awful forgiving of awful dancing. I know, I know, it’s some new-fangled cool thing (apparently) to lack rhythm and be terrible, and she’s got some kind of offbeat charm that I just don’t get, but I cannot stand to watch that. I actually tried again just now and got a little farther into the video, but… no, couldn’t watch more than 45 seconds of it.
Ok, this explains all those people who audition for American Idol, are told they are awful, and get all defensive because “everyone tells me I sing great!” You cannot possibly be one of the “best” singers if you can’t actually sing!
Or all those people in the Mick Jagger/rock singer thread who are all, “Rock isn’t about singing well–these ‘bad’ singers are great!”
