Yes fellow Dopers it’s that time again. What you haven’t already given to Uncle Sam he will get now. At least by April 15. This year I get a nice refund. In addition to the taxes that are normally taken out I have extra taken out too. I had to pay one year and that was a real bummer. I’m gonna use my refund to take a really nice vacation to Canada to visit a dear friend. What you gonna do with your refund?
I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
This year was the first time in at least five years that I actually received a refund from the IRS. The only frivolous thing I bought was a new video card for my husband. The rest of it went towards bills.
I’m jealous of my parents. They are using this year’s tax refund to take a Caribbean cruise. (sigh)

I try not to get a huge refund. That way, instead of Uncle Sam using my money interest-free, I can put it in my bank account and earn 2% interest fake excitement here.
Haven’t done my taxes yet this year, so I don’t know how much I’m getting back yet.

Being the flush enlisted military family that we are, not only do we not pay any taxes, but we get that nifty refund, too. I’m not sure what’s being refunded, exactly, but I’m not giving it back. I’m gonna pay tuition! Woo hoo!
I think that you should be paid in interest the money the government borrowed from you, much like they make us that owe do…
I always owe…I think I need to start making quarterly payments so as my tax bite isn’t as huge come April 15. That’s the only day I regret being self-employed.
I always set my tax deduction as “Single, no dependents”. Why? Well, the difference between claiming myself and not is about $4 a week. Can’t do a whole lot with that! Banks don’t pay diddly on that kind of money either.
This year, my wife and I got back a nice chunk o’change and used used most of it to rid ourselves of unnecessary credit cards. We now have two cards we use for “emergencies”. Unfortunately, my car (the '92 Grand Am I bragged about on a previous thread) decided it would be a good time to have its transmission rebuilt as a cost of $1200!!! That nearly ran an almost-paid-off card back to its limit!
I’m beginning to think cars are sentient to the extent of knowing when you have extra money :).
Taking mine and going on a vacation to the beautiful paradise that is…northern Wisconsin. I have a dear friend who lives up there, and I’m gonna spend a week with her.
Got mine already. When you get back a good-sized chunk it’s better to file early. I use the e-file program and get a direct deposit in about 2 weeks after filing.
I used it to pay off a credit card, which I will be cancelling. Two down, one to go. It will be paid off in a few months. I’ll keep this card open, though - one way or another I’ll be working for a new employer next year, either here in St. Louis or in Colorado.
I should be getting my federal refund in a week or so.
Not sure what I’ll do with it. Probably spend it on some “luxuries” I haven’t in a while, such as new books, new movies, new music CDs, going upstate to visit my family for a week or so.
