I was referring to the specific phrasing in that post. It’s a caricature. There are native Spanish speakers on this board who don’t write anything like that.

What phrasing was caricature? I just saw a handful of run-of-the-mill grammar and spelling mistakes – the kinds that most people make on occasion.

No it’s not a caricature. It’s the average writing of someone who wrote something fast and conversational in tone. I fully believe that was HMW ™.

See, this is why I don’t think it was for real. I can’t imagine many women alive who would jump to such a quasi defense of their husband without bringing that up in some way. And her ignoring it, just like he’s always done since it first happened, is literally straight out of his play book. Talk about not maturing, any way you look at it.

Why did he do it if it wasn’t completely complimentary? Well, he needed someone to come to his aid and no one else was going to do it. I’m sure he’s seen when spouses have stepped up vigorously for each other over the years, especially if the Pitted really deserved it. Those folks get run out on a rail and laughed at forever. So, he devised a plan to not look so obvious. Denigrate himself in a few areas, but still wind up saying nice enough things. Then polish off the whole farce by making her sound the exact opposite of himself. I mean, she’s that degreed and can’t spell some of the simplest words, use spell check (before her one and only post!) or proper sentence structure? Also, I found it telling that she chose to describe herself like he does, almost verbatim. It’s crazy.

However, the icing on the cake was the finale. Of course she’ll never be back to reply or comment further. Do you honestly think a “Latina” woman that “assertive” and “strong” would just let this slide with only one post? Or would he now be getting the heat somewhat off himself because we’re talking about her instead, maybe even giving him a teensy break due to what was said and now not expecting him to return because she’s reaming him out at home?

I think he did it because, despite all the trolling, he really does care what people here think of him. Eleven years is a long time to dedicate to one board to just let it totally get eclipsed by non-stop allegations of trolling. Plus, if he ever gets over his bitter period, he may just want to be known as a regular poster. So, there’s nothing in that exchange that says anything to me except that it was him pulling double duty.

And last analysis of the day… I’m still saying she left him and that’s what precipitated this change. I wonder if all that was in part him posting an ode to what he misses?

Not at all. I’m pretty familiar with the writing of Spanish-speakers who learned English as a second language, and that’s actually pretty good. There are a few errors in verb forms and idioms, which is par for the course. I make the same kind of mistakes writing in Spanish unless I take a lot of care.

If anything, I would say it was better than I would expect from the average non-native speaker of English, especially writing casually on a message board.

I am not commenting on whether or not the post in question is authentic. However, based on my experience with Spanish-speakers the quality of the English does not provide evidence against it. That’s all.

Dude(tte), I’m a native Spanish speaker who frequently writes in this board. I didn’t see the errors you or Blank Slate noticed. And that style is also better for other stuff some of us non-English native speakers have written here.

Lay it off. Whether it was authentic or not, the English errors are not an indication.

Same reaction here. “Mrs. Incubus” seems vastly more mature, interesting, and engaging than her shallow poser husband. I would love to see her set up her own account on the SDMB and contribute regularly.

Assuming she’s real, of course. I’m inclined to believe that she is; I’m not buying into faithfool’s theory that this is a sophisticated reverse-psychology strategy designed to garner sympathy for Incubus and create a punishment-and-redemption narrative. As other posters have pointed out, the style is consistent with that of an educated Hispanic ESL writer, and Inky has a long history here. I wouldn’t put it past Inky to create a sock puppet, but if he did, he’d likely give “her” the same smug, self-satisfied tone he affects. If “Mrs. Incubus” is a fake, it’s a masterfully-executed one.
