Yeah, the skeptics are giving Incubus too much credit in the cunning department. His posting history shows him incapable of posting more than 3 consecutive paragraphs without using at least one of the following terms: lazy, self-aware, learned helplessness, Mexican, and whiny. Magically, none of these words appear in that post.
He also has a hard time starting sentences with a word other than “I”. Go back and look at his posts if yall doubt me. His self-centeredness doesn’t just affect the content of his speech; it influences how he speaks. That isn’t something that you can fake very easily, especially if you’ve got a ego like Incubus does.
Not to mention, the poor woman works 70 hours per week! She was probably exhausted.

It would be the perfect opportunity to put all us nay sayers to shame. I mean, why wouldn’t he do it? He has every motivation to do so. But he wont of course.

There’s no way his wife would be willing to pose for a picture with him, not now. Not if that really had been her.
And if that had really been her, there’s no way he’ll be returning to this thread any time soon. First of all, she took away his computer privileges. And secondly, how could he show his face after being outed as a liar by his own wife? You don’t just shrug that off. If he does return to this thread, I might reconsider my stance, but until then…nah.
Incubus could have easily abandoned this thread if he didn’t want to deal being pitted anymore. Pretending to be his wife and then fading to black serves no purpose. Sure he could come back and call us suckers for believing his prank, but what would be the point of that? For one he wouldn’t be able to prove it and two, it would likely get him banned.
So it is resolved: the skeptics will never know if they are right. Whatever move Incubus makes next could go either way. But the believers don’t need their belief confirmed to be entertained, because the mere possibility that wife outed him as a dishonest douche is awesome enough.
If Incubus continues to post here (which I doubt), I predict that his next post will be a claim that he wrote the “wife” post. He’ll say, “LOL, I can’t believe you idiots fell for it,” and proudly say how meta and Andy-Kaufmanesque it was to eviscerate himself in his own post. Then he’ll add that his wife found his fake post hilarious and they shared a good laugh at our expense.

It doesn’t matter to me if Incubita is a fake or not. It’s entertaining either way. But without an apology and a promise to do better coming directly from him, he will always remain a pathetic little loser.
I would not post a picture of myself here, and certainly would never post one of my wife. There are plenty of people here who want to maintain some level of privacy. Maybe Incubus isn’t as interested in that, but I bet his wife is. And what’s the point? He posts it and everyone immediately accuses him of hiring some random woman to pose with him.
Hah, I can see this happening. Unfortunately, the “admission” of trolling and reverse sockery would be at least a suspension and probably a banishment. I’d rather see where this story goes.

Incubus, if you’re reading this and if you care I still like you. This whole thing is funny though, but I’ve enjoyed your posts for years although I agree with others, you can and should try to be proud of yourself w/o being hostile to those you do not agree with or want to become. If you don’t, people will fight back (nobody liked being abused, more or less) I hope you come back.
If he’s banned here, he could always continue mocking us from his sock account over on Giraffeboards.

Eh, he’s probably not as big of a douche in real life as he’s acting here. In real life there are consequences for being a dick, on the internet not so much. I’d actually hate it if everyone here on the Dope thought I was a jerk–fuck, I joined in 2000. Damn. So yeah. Point is, lots of long term posters here don’t seem to care how they are perceived by others. There are some people I guess who are the same way in real life, but I think they don’t overlap as much as you might expect.
Like, some people are antisocial alienated loners in face to face interactions who can only be nice online. Others are the opposite, decent people face to face but complete dicks online, the spend all day being nice and treat their online life as a vacation from consequences. Others are neither. And some are just complete assholes 24/7.
Total bullshit. I think he went through that “wife” post after writing it and decided to misspell certain words to make it seem like ESL.
But I think he missed a couple of “apologize” ones, and one of the misspellings is his own.
The “wife” managed to spell apologize correctly, then the next time spell it “appoligies,” then the next time spell it correctly, then the next time spell it “apologize.”
And “lengthly” is a word that Incubus himself always seems to misspell.
BTW, that was 5 minutes of searching “site:boards.straightdope.com Incubus lengthly.” Note also I was unable in 5 minutes of searching “site:boards.straightdope.com Incubus lengthy” to find any instances of him spelling it correctly.
I also think I’ve spent way too much time with this, and now need to go apologize to my wife, Morgan Fairchild.
I think you guys really want it to be a post from the HLW but I just want to go on record to say that I think y’all are over-analyzing and over-invested because you want it to be so. But I think Incubus is playing everyone here and it is now a silly game for him.
I read “appoligies” as a phonetic spelling of “apologies,” not “apologize.” But I admit you have a good point with “lengthly.” That’s pretty damning.
I have also spent way too much time thinking about this, and that sanctimonious asshole isn’t worth it, so I’m checking out now.
