I am in IT as well. I guess people in the US people take 3-4 weeks off during Christmas and New year. Nov, Dec, Jan is peak marriage season over here in India due to pleasant weather and due to festivals’ and new year vacations… it should be a win-win both for the companies and for Indian employees who take vacation during that time to marry, right?

Most contractors only get 2 weeks a year, and enough is taken up by sickdays, longs weekends here and there that very few people take more than a week off for Christmas. If you want 3-4 weeks you take most of it unpayed, and that’s only if they are willing to take you back after, so people just didn’t do it other than serious illness(which gets into short term leave which is a whole different thing).

Very few people in tech take 3-4 weeks off at a time. Two is the maximum most people will take. The exception is workers from China and India who head home once a year and they will often take 3-4 weeks to do so. Many return married.
Alright. In my last company, out of the 3-4 weeks, people would often work from home through VPN or from India office for a week or two while being out of US. The company was based in an area which was quite cold n had snowfall during new year time so employees in the US too would often work from home.
I understand that in many companies, WFH isn’t always possible.
