Interesting Bible verse-

We all know the GOP, trump, De Santis, Abbott, etc are hypocrites, but here is some ammo to use-

Exodus 22:21 KJVThou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Doesn’t count. The US isn’t Egypt. /s

You’re pretty optimistic if you think that quoting the Bible is going to cause anyone in the present-day GOP to change their tune.

They would reply
“God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne” Psalm 47:8 to justify placing the US under the fundamentalist equivalent of Sharia Law.

Any one of those morons is going to spout back with “yeah, but the Bible also says ‘an eye for an eye’!”, all their supporters will yell and cheer, regardless of how wrong they are.

And you do realize that if we go with The Bible, we would execute cross-dressers. Just ask Joan of Arc about that.

Yes, I am aware that it is hard to penetrate Republican or Right wing Conservative church hypocrisy.

I was under the impression that the Bible didn’t have anything to say about cross dressing, and that Joan was executed, essentially, for being an enemy combatant, no matter what the charges might have been.

Nope. She was convicted on only one charge - she admitted to wearing men’s clothing during battle and she was executed for it.

A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, your God. (Deut 22:5)

Oh and as long as we are going to use the Bible as our guide on how to act.

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (Lev 20:13)

So we would put two men having sex to death.

DrDeth, are you sure you want to give Republicans that ammo by telling them to follow the Bible in a non-hypocritical way?

They wont and cant.

They’d have to condone slavery and animal sacrifice.

According to you and others on SD, they’d have no problem with that.

Not according to me.

Bigotry, homophobia and xenophobia sure.

Since when are Trump, De Santis, and Abbott part of the “ye” in question?

Is now the time that I reveal that I preached the KJV 23rd Psalm at the corner of Yonge and Dundas in Toronto one time?

An oldie but goodie…

Thanks for reminding me of that West Wing classic. One of the best moments of the show.

As I remember that little speech quoting the Bible was taken from something someone posted on the Internet someplace.

Yep, the answer, if they bothered to give it, would be “He was talking to the Jews there, we’re not Jews so it doesn’t apply!”

The problem with getting into the Bible-quoting game is there there are 1,000 verses that favor liberals and 1,000 verses that favor conservatives.

Any side and either side could pull verses out of it all day long to support their case, and at the end of the day the argument is no closer to being settled.

No, it was a near-direct shot at Dr. Laura Schlessinger, a radio personality who was getting attention at the time ranting about homosexuality.

Edit: I misread your post. Yes, the speech Bartlet gave was cribbed from an online response to Dr. Laura that was floating around the internet at the time.
