International Londope 2002

Good Lord.

I share a birthday with Crusoe and Jodi.

in the name of Budda on a spacehopper, I shall be there.

Does anyone want to let me sleep on a shelf in their apartment or house for the weekend?

If not, Jodi, I’d be happy to share with you, (if you want me to! )

Not promising anything yet, Twisty - after all it is a long way away - but I may be able to shelve you by then.

I might consider it if I manage to get a decent job between now and then. My parents and I are also planning to go to Japan in the Fall, so I have to plan rather carefully. So consider me a tentative…

Well, I still want to go, but I figure if I do, I can’t go to Spiffled. That will be in April, and I can’t just take time off from work whenever I feel like it. If I go to Europe, I would want to take at LEAST a week off, too. It’s too far to travel for a weekend. I don’t know. London is certainly more interesting than Spiffled, but considerably more expensive to get to.

Can’t see any reason why I couldn’t make it.

I like this idea. As with many, it’s still too far out front to make a commitment, but count me as one of those definite maybes.

RAH RAH RAH!

Soooo… are we still doing this? Who wants to come? We’re talking the weekend of 25/26th May, with the main event being Saturday night probably. I’m happy to put a few lost souls up in my house although it is an hours journey from London.

If the weather holds (don’t laugh) it might even be nice to have a bar-b-q on the Friday night or Sunday. Who’s up for it?

25/26 May is fine with me. I’m away in Edinburgh the weekend before (no more commuting to Prague!) but have taken off all the rest of the week on holiday. Am available all the time as a result.

Um - could I be put down as a “maybe”? And, for the amusement of the Surrey contingent, I’ll mention that I spent some time living in Reigate, then in Redhill. I have a friend (American, as it happens) living in Thornton Heath - a bit remote, but I could crash with her and meet up wherever, perhaps. Maybe I shoudl get her to join the SDMB too (as it was a quest for useless information for her that led me to this haven in the first place.)

25th and 26th of May - London.
I (and my enormous arse) shall be there.

Is that a definite definite - in other words should I start snaffling around on the net for affordable yet stylish accomodations on those dates?

I appear to be free that weekend, so mark me down as a “probably”. And a barbeque sounds spiffing, as long as the only sweetcorn on the table in on the cob.

As a touristy aside, the Barbican Centre will have a video game exhibition on at that time, for all you gaming fans. They’ll also be showing Tron on the big screen at some point (date to be confirmed) – woohoo!

Crap. I’m on the other side of the pond that weekend.

No, not the North Sea - the Big Pond.
Have fun, and drink to my health.

That exhibition sounds fun. The ICA in London has a monthly nightclub night with a similar theme – they play a film while a band plays the soundtrack over all but key dialogue. I saw “Tron” with the theme played by Ladytron a few weeks back, and got free tickets to a showing of “The Matrix” thrown in. I think they did “The Wicker Man” next, then some anime film.

I’d offer to accommodate for 25/26 May but unfortunately I only have a studio flat (i.e. one room) so it’d be a bit awkward.

You guys are soooo lucky. I’m not free 11/12 (MA ceremony), 18/19 (Belgium) OR 1/2 June. But it looks like I AM free 25/26.

Waddya mean unlucky? Cheeky.

P

Alas, I cannot go. I am in trial the entire first week in June, which precludes winging off to Britian the week before.

I still hope to make it over there, maybe later in the year. But y’all have fun, and raise to pint for me.

I’ll give you Murricans summat to smile about, I’ve just been out and bought a Robin which I can drive on my bike licence since I’m not allowed out in a proper car.

UK dopers will know what I’m on about, let the rest of them find out in due course.

Yep, that’ll scare the bejeezus out of them :D. I had a friend who had one, years ago. Became quite reliant on it, in fact.

For those familair with the show: a Robin Reliant (which is what it is, right?) is the little blue three-wheeler car in Mr. Bean that gets knocked over all the time.

snort

What’s wrong with a proper bike, Dave?

Can’t make this one as I originally hoped, much as I’d like to.
