As a resident Londoner, add my name to the definitely interested list. May I nominate a venue for most of the essential boozing?
The Silver Cross pub. Merits:
- It’s vast.
- They’ll willingly set aside a section for us.
- Hi Opal!
- Optional food (of good quality) served up until 10pm, even on Sat.
- Very central and easy to find. All you do is find Trafalgar Square (which is so easy even Merkins can do it), then face South looking down Whitehall. The play “Art” is on at the Whitehall Theatre at the moment, so it’s easy to see which street is ‘Whitehall’. Walk down Whitehall. Pub is 100 yards on your left. Easy!
- Only 3 minutes walk from Charing Cross station, which is both a main line and tube station, so it’s logistically perfect.

I can’t make this one, but I will be in London for a day before heading to Glasmere for a Wordsworth conference this summer. Would any Londoners want to get together for a beer on July 26th? I have to take a train into the Lake District the next day, but it would be fun to have someone to hang out with my first and only night in London (my tentative plans are finding a hostel and getting drunk; I’m sure someone can help me with that.
In theory I’m around July 26 too. Won’t know for sure until nearer the day though.
Actually Mr Bean has a mini. There was one episode, however, in which he forced a Robin Reliant to reverse at such a speed that it tipped over.
Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses had a Robin van.

Anyway, the Reliant appears in more than one episode. There’s the one where he exits a parking garage and forces the Reliant to back up (the one you describe), but there’s more: this page hints at “many early episodes” (the page also adds the car is actually a Reliant Regal 3/25, not a Robin!), and this site describes the first epsiode including a Robin.
