WowThis is quite a thing in Stockholm right now. SL, the company that runs the public transport, has been using Doge in their poster adverts. It apparently has confused a lot of people as it turns out that internet memes aren’t as widely known as some people think they are.
I took this picture a week ago to share on Facebook:

When I took that photo I was with two people in their thirties. Neither of them had heard of Doge. We overheard two ladies in their twenties who also were confused by it.

I was in a local red-necky bar, and in the bathroom they have an ad for a veterinarian showing a dog in a lab coat, so I wrote* doge-vet next to it. When I came back in later, I was surprised that someone added Much Vet - Such Heal - Wow!
*Not vandalism - This place has chalkboard walls in the bathroom and lets you draw on them.

Every so often a linguist will do a breakdown of popular memes; noting the patterns and rules (and yes, there are some). That’s always interesting (at least to me).
I find doge HILARIOUS, but then I still find “when come back bring pie” funny. So.

How is it pronounced? Just like “dog”, or with a long “o” like doe? Is there a second syllable, like Doe-gee or doe-gay? Hard G or soft G?

TBH, I’m a little surprised it took 24 posts. But well done, good form, good show.
I am somewhat meme-savvy, or at least flatter myself that I am. Maybe my connection to that rich mother-vein loosened after the 'aughts, but I was pretty much right there for Hatten or AYB or almost all the sweet sweet Shockwave-based goodness on Newgrounds or Albino Blacksheep.
(IMHO, nothing has ever touched the awesomeness of the Terrible Secret of Space. Nothing.)
