My guess is she’s trying to steal fans from Fred, the hyperactive kid played by a teen.
Or there’s always “Mr. T ate my balls.”
I haven’t heard of any of the memes on that site. But then, I don’t participate in social media, with the exception of this message board.
Me either, but when I come across one I’d like to understand, that site has always had the explanation.
It’s an act.
Many +1
You know a meme is played out and should be hit in the head with a shovel and buried when dopers start asking “have you guys heard of this new may may thing?”
Not that you should feel bad for not keeping up with 20-something white nerd culture, but there always seems to be a 6-12 month lag between the Dope and the rest of the internet.
You aren’t the only one to notice the similarity between doge and Doge. I’ve seen a few pictures of doge Doges in fact.
I’m quite fond of Doge but accept it’s only well-known amongst a particular (admittedly large) group of internetizens - lots of my gaming and tech friends know it, but none of my co-workers do, even though they’re all reasonably computer and social media-savvy.
And yes, when I first saw it, I did wonder what a Japanese dog had to do with the Republic of Venice.
It’s an archive of, like, thousands of memes. You’ve not heard of any of them? Maybe try their popular list. (Doge is #7! Hi doge!)
The ones on the front page are new or not even confirmed to be memes yet.
But much plus for using KnowYourMeme.com to look up memes, preferably before you announce to the world “HEY I DON’T KNOW THAT MEME.”
So wow!
Very yes!
Much good. Eat!
This post has been doged by the dogist.
Nope, I’ve never heard of any of the so-called popular ones from that site either. Where would I? As I said, I don’t participate in social media. Most days I pretty much only read this web site, the New York Times, my bank’s site, maybe TripAdvisor or Amazon if I’m thinking of going somewhere or buying something. Maybe a few other newspaper web sites or travel sites. None of them are are likely to have discussions likely to bring up the type of memes in this sense.
I’m much the same suranyi…although I don’t visit the NYT!
And even reading KnowYourMeme.com still didn’t give any insight into why a dog in an avatar should elicit knowing ‘aha’s’ or ‘OMG that guy is so edgy…he knows about doge’.
Maybe I’m just too old to get it. S’cuse me while I go take my Alzheimer’s meds…
You don’t have to be on social media (I’m not) to know about some of the major memes, though. I’m not saying everyone has to know about all of them because if the only places you visit are the SDMB, Wikipedia, Amazon and your local news website, you’re not likely to come across them.
To be fair though, I regularly visit Know Your Meme and 9Gag just to keep up with that sort of thing because I find them amusing and they’re a useful cultural currency or icebreaker in my demographic.
Strong Bad established the proper pronunciation of Doge years before it became a meme.

So what is it? YouTube usually doesn’t work for me (and doesn’t here).
@sweden has been tweeting the posters this week. Such Svensk.
ok, where on the internet do these things appear? Like others, I’m SDMB, a few news sites and my bank. What am I missing?
