Inu-Yasha Question: Kagura

Here’s what I have about Kagura

[spoilers]

She’s a wind demon created and controlled by Maraku, because he can kill or torture her anytime he likes. She hates Inu-Yasha for repeatedly kicking her booty, and Kagome/whoever for doing the same. She likes Sesshomaru. She gets killed later on in the anime and manga.
Is this information correct?
Ah crud. Mods!

Kagura’s origin and relationship with Inuyasha and the others:

Naraku (who was a fusion of hundreds of demons and a man; Onigumo the bandit) created Kagura from his flesh to act as an assassin and spy. As such she was “programmed” to hate Inuyasha and the others because she was a part of him and thus shared his feelings and/or he shared his antipathy with her so she’d do his bidding.

Kagura’s combat record:

And I wouldn’t say Inuyasha and his friends ever gave her too much of a thrashing (and not from Kagome, in the least…man-oh-man). They got close, but either Naraku or his minions stepped in at the last second, or they managed to barely thwart her, having had their asses handed to them by her to begin with. She did good work, what can I say?

More about Kagura’s relationship with other characters:
However, because of Naraku’s physical nature at the time he created her, she began to develop a will of her own (he had trouble keeping himself together for the first two thirds or so of the TV series, both because he was part-human and part-demon, and because his two halves had conflicting interests). She knew this and secretly plotted to escape from Naraku’s influence and/or kill him. She saw Sesshomaru as the best man for the job, and tried, unsuccessfully, to work together with him (even though they both wanted Naraku dead anyway). In the meantime, she fell in love with Sesshomaru, and viewers/readers got an occasional hint that perhaps he was beginning to return the feelings.

Naraku knew about her plotting, but never took her threat seriously, since he could absorb her back into his body if he wanted, along with the fact that, as a part of him, if he died, she would too. This wouldn’t have been an issue if she had her own heart, and as such he kept it separate from her.
Kagura’s fate:
In an issue of the Manga a few months ago, Naraku finally got sick of Kagura’s scheming, and gave her heart back. However, he’d poisoned it, so even though she was free of him, she only had a few moments to live. I forget what happens next; either Sesshomaru finds her or she searches for him, but they find that he can’t use the Tenseiga to save her, since those little soul demons that he had to kill to bring someone back to life weren’t there (not Kikyo’s Shinidamachu, but little goblin creatures that come to take souls to the afterlife).

Kagura died, becoming one with the wind in the process, and leaving us to wonder if there really was something between her and Sesshomaru. My thinking is that there was: he was ready to use Tenseiga to bring her back to life, he just wasn’t able.
That answer your question? Anything else I can help you with?

And are you reading the manga or just watching the TV show? The latter follows the former almost perfectly, just without some of the filler in the manga as well as having some of its own.

It’s just that the manga has been going for about a year or so past the point where the anime ended. They basically ended the show at the end of a story arc in the manga that was a good point to leave off with a “and the adventure continues…!”

Here’s a site where you can get summaries of all the manga volumes thus far, as well as some other information about the show. It’s mid-week, so he should have the one from last Sunday up soon:

Here’s a link to a summary of the Manga. Volume 38 details Kagura’s demise.

Ah, so she really really was the wind, not just a wind-demon!

Eh, it’s a happy enough ending. I really like Kagura, and I’m cool enough with this.
I’m watching the TV show, but intermittently. I have trouble telling some of the character apart beacuse their names sound alike, or they look and talk alike, or whatever.

You’ll get past that, eventually. One of the worst instances of this happened when they went up against a guy named Tokajin, while Sesshomaru’s other sword is called Tokijin. Fortunately, the former was only in two episodes in which Sesshomaru didn’t make an appearance.

And in later episodes when Sesshomaru faces off against Naraku, their Japanese VAs sound so much alike that it’s almost impossible to tell them apart if you’re not looking at the screen or following the subtitles very closely.

Not the same thing as the name problem, but it just goes to show how one can have trouble differentiating the characters apart from the color of their hair and the shape of their ears.

The site’s summary is of the manga that tries to recreate the dialogue of each character.
