Ever day it seems there are more rumors about yet another SW spin off movie or TV show. Han Solo, Bobby Fett, Old Luke, Young Han, KOTOR spin off, TV show.
Are they trying to kill the franchise or what?
Yes I know it boils down to them wanting to make as much $$ as possible, and that is their right, but I can only assume the quality is going to take a shit.
You saw the Kinect Star Wars game put out by LucasArts? With the Galactic Dance-Off mode? I don’t think Disney is doing anything new here, just following the trend of milking the IP for every penny that Lucas started.
(Seriously, the idea of getting into a dance-off with Vader and the emperor almost made me run out and buy a Kinect+360. The youtube videos are hilarious.)
Yea, it seems a little bizarre to treat the over-commercialization of Star Wars, of all things, as some new development. Its pretty hard to think of another franchise in history that’s been as productively milked for as long a period for every last possible bit of revenue.
Anyhoo, the prequels probably did about as much damage to the franchise as its possible to do. Disney’s new movies/tv shows/action figures/videogames/whatever might improve things for Star Wars, but I don’t think they can really do much to make things worse.
There was a time when I was a Star Wars fan, and that time roughly corresponds with the 2.5 movies you referenced. I’m going to try to ignore it all from hereon out. Too many missteps, too many poor choices, too much fanwanking, fanfic and expanded universe crap that should have stayed fanfic. I just hate EVERYTHING about Star Wars that isn’t contained within those 2.5 movies, and in truth, I thought the whole, “rescue Han from Jabba” sequence was ham-handed as well.
That said, seeing Han and Luke wind up in a chilly prison together might be nice, and call it ‘Cool Han Luke’. “If my baby say he can eat fifty Beggar’s Canyon Wombat eggs, then that’s how many he can eat!”
There is absolutely zero chance that the worst spinoff they come up with will be as bad as the prequels George Lucas put out. The franchise has nowhere to go but up, the fact that they got the director of the Avengers for episode 7 is already a vast improvement.
No, not Joss Whedon Director of The Avengers. The Director will be J.J. Abrams creator of Alias and Lost and Director of Super 8 and Star Trek (2009 and 2013).
Unfortunately, no. Not while there are still characters from the originals yet to be character assassinated.
Han Solo, I’m looking at you. And what I’m seeing is…
Shia LaBeouf, an inexperienced but overconfident young smuggler. Kids think he’s cool, and he would never shoot first. Also, he finds sand distasteful.

And if you’ve been listening to the news lately, he has some free time.
Bah, both Young Justice and Tron:Uprising are far better written shows. Wait a minute, both those got cancelled. Damn it! Oh well, if who ever takes over Clone Wars manages not to introduce a character like the jewish midget pig samurai jedi I guess that’s an improvement.
