There, there. The pill lady will be by soon!
Now you’ve done it. Now Rand Rover will charge in and make this thread all about him, too.
I say we summon them all in and watch them battle for attention:
Rand Rover,
Rand Rover,
Rand Rover!
Carol Stream,
Carol Stream,
Carol Stream!
Der Trihs,
Der Trihs,
Der Trihs!
curlcoat,
curlcoat,
curlcoat!
You forgot Liberal.
The summoning ritual for Liberal is considerably more complicated. (Plus, I like the guy, even if he would be a good attention gladiator.)
Yes - provoking hilarious Vinyl Turnip posts. Other than that, adding to the local color? I, for one, am rather fond of our…“eccentrics.” Oh, and triggering flaming. What’s a good pitting without hilariously uncalled-for venom? If everyone was reasonable here, it’d be pretty damn boring.
Despite certain irritating qualities, he certainly looks good compared to The Gang of the Heartless.
What’s wrong with Crafter_Man? His political views are a bit out there, but he contributes a lot in GQ and Cafe Society (and possibly GD, but I don’t go there much).
There’s a fine line between getting rid of trolls and getting rid of everyone that doesn’t think like you do. Personally, I would much rather err on the side of caution when it comes to who you want posting here and who you don’t.
It’s a lot easier to ignore content you don’t want to read than to read content that doesn’t exist.
Agreed, and IMO Starving Artist is another one. I am so sick of every other thread around here turning into another SA-inspired flamefest. I myself have been guilty of trying to engage him in discussion in the past, but I’ve learned from my mistake and stopped now.
Moron
All morons.
Crafter_Man, curlcoat and Carol Stream all seem to be afflicted with the same misperceptions:
- If something is of no value to them (public libraries, a public healthcare option or, in Carol Stream’s case, the protection of police and fire departments) then it is of no value whatsoever
- That because they have been capable of acquiring something (books as and when they want them, health insurance coverage) despite some particular personal obstacles, everyone should be able to do likewise
- That because they have been fortunate (i.e. not needing fire department aid in their lives) that their experience is universal and will never change
- That anyone who isn’t capable of acquiring what they have or who hasn’t been as fortunate as they has only themselves to blame. Apparently in their world, all people are equally intelligent, misfortune never befalls anyone, good health is a matter of wishing to have it, and if that doesn’t apply to you, oh well, you can go get fucked, it’s your own fault.
That Carol Stream, further, argues constantly in bad faith, ignores citations, moves goalposts and hurls illogical and brainless invective at anyone and everyone who disagrees with her about anything and has never shown even the most remote scintilla of anything approaching human empathy for anyone only underpins more strongly the case that she’s beyond a poor contributor to these boards and is, in fact, a troll. A prolific and vociferous troll, but a troll nonetheless.
Bolding mine – when was THIS???
I really don’t understand the propensity to troll. I at least understand what drives macho posters to physically threaten others online, I get the drive-by thread shitting to make one feel superior, but trolling takes effort. It takes time.
To dedicate the time in ones life to do nothing other then trying to make others lives worse must be the saddest thing I’ve ever read.
It’s at least a few steps below those so caught up in a message board where the need to digitally flail at them justifies a Pit thread. Maybe trolls are just karmic balance against good people living too much online.
That’s . . . deep.
I’d have to dig back in my posting history to find it, it was in yet another healthcare thread where Carol Stream dropped the idiot bomb that she doesn’t use the protection of the police or fire departments where she lives. When prodded she refused to elucidate further but yes, she has made a straightforward claim that she derives no benefit whatsoever from living in a community that has police and fire services.
I think Carol Stream presents a minority viewpoint which is valuable to the Board. It’s true that their posts are often “in your face”, unfortunately, and that ends up diluting their perceived value.
Word. I hear the sounds of trees falling in forests when I read that.
The minority viewpoint that it’s acceptable discourse to refer to other posters as dumb snatches? That’s valuable?
Yes, that’s exactly what I said.
