On Family Guy Peter Griffin once had a scene that went like this:
(Scene from The Dating Game)
Girl: Ok Bachelor #1, I’m an ice cream cone. How would you eat me?.
Bachelor #1: I would invite my friend Rudy over and together we would give you a double dip.
Girl: Bachelor #2?
Bachelor #2: I would lick off all the cream and give you some of my whipped topping.
Girl: Bachelor #3?
Peter: I would try to eat you really fast before I got flaccid.
It doesn’t make sense. Someone help me.
Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude. I think it just means that Peter could not think of a clever double-entendre and under pressure wound up just telling the truth.
Peter is just being completely literal. There is no ice cream metaphor involved.
Just in case you’re still confused, He is saying that would perform oral sex on her as quickly as possible before he lost his erection.
The other bachelors are using the “ice cream cone” thing to describe how they would have sex with her. Peter’s response is funny because (1) he admits to having poor sexual stamina (flaccid = limp), and (2) he sort of gets that the ice cream isn’t really ice cream, but instead of giving a response that sounds like it’s about ice cream but is actually sexual, he just gives an answer that’s overtly sexual. Eating ice cream doesn’t make you flaccid, so he’s not playing the game correctly.
The other responses are pretty bad innuendo. The idea of innuendo is to say something sexual in a subtle way that’s not immediately obvious. So the other two responses are really as lame as Peter’s. Perhaps this is a comment on the social ineptitude of a lot of contestants on dating shows – they very often say things they should keep to themselves.
I know what flaccid means, but the joke doesn’t seem that funny unless flaccid has a double meaning that relates to ice cream. And as far as I can tell, or anyone else can tell me, it doesn’t.
The key to the joke is: Peter Griffin ≠ Oscar Wilde.
He’s stupid and crass, and doesn’t have the wit to make even a weak double entendre like the others – he just combines two literal ideas in a way that doesn’t make sense. That’s funny, because it’s absurd.
Joke 1: Peter is too stupid to differentiate between “ice cream as a metaphor for sexual activity” and “ice cream as a synonym for sexual intercourse.”
Joke 2: Peter is saying “I’d f*** you really fast before I get limp.”
One element of humor is the introduction of the unexpected into a common frame of refrence.
The setup here is a Dating Game scenario where three bachelors try to convince the girl to date them by their witty and flirty responses to a suggestive question. The first two bachelors answer the question in an expected way, responding to the suggestive element in the question in a similarly suggestive way.
This sets up Peter’s response, which is funny because it is unexpected in three related ways. Nametag has identified the first two, that Peter is “too stupid to differentiate between ‘ice cream as a metaphor for sexual activity’ and ‘ice cream as a synonym for sexual intercourse,’” and that “Peter is saying ‘I’d f*** you really fast before I get limp.’” The reason that this is particularly funny is the third element, which joins the first two: the purpose of this exercise is to impress the girl with witty repartee demonstrating why you would be a good date, and the response shows that Peter both is not witty and sexually disadvantaged.
Put more directly, when someone is trying to impress a girl and blurts out that he’s a limp-dick, it is funny (to the observer, at least).
