Joel and I are about ready to head out
See you in a little bit
And a good time was had by all.
Even my little rug rat, once we got new batteries for his Gameboy so he didn’t have to listen to us boring adults.
We weren’t boring, were we?
OK, granted, to a “person-of-youth” we may have been. But we tried not to be, honest. Appreciating Firesign Theater references takes time.
I had a good time - really nice to meet all of you folks. Can’t wait for the next one.
… and Hometownboy did, indeed, bring Scotch Eggs.
We had fun, and the gift of the Scotch eggs was appreciated (made a nice late supper), but I always seem to get stuck furthest away from the talking!
One of these days, someone is going to have to get brave and host one of these things at their home, maybe when we have BBQ weather
Wahhhhhh! I couldn’t be there and you all still had fun! It’s not fair. You were supposed to miss me and spend the time crying and wishing I was there and talking about how much better it would be if I was there and–oh wait. . . this isn’t my dream of “if the world revolved around me”, it’s real life. Yeah, the “other people exist for their own reasons and even when you’re not around” reality. Yeah.
So! Glad everybody had a great time, sorry I couldn’t be there, we should have another soon! Tell me more about it–what did you talk about? Who was the biggest surprise? Did you take pictures? Did you miss me? Who came the farthest? Why, oh why did somebody bring a scotch egg, and, even more importantly, why did somebody eat it?
It was certainly nice to meet everybody. Now everybody knows why I don’t post much on the boards… I don’t talk much in real life.
It was fun meeting everybody though.
Kalessa-- We talked about how much we missed you and wanted you there pretty much the whole time. Nobody really surprised me at all. AudreyK took some pictures. (I ordered a camera, but it is going to arrive Tue. Doh! I’ll get some pics next time though) Hometownboy came from the Dalles, while AudreyK and KKB were both from Seattle-ish area I believe.
Can’t wait for next time, maybe I won’t have just gotten off of work and be brain-fried next time.
Well, Kallessa, you were missed, I’m sure. We didn’t talk about much - Czarcasm gave us all the juicy secrets behind what’s it’s like to be an SDMB mod, that’s all.
There was much discussion of cultural iconography of various types - I frequently felt like I was in The Cafe.
And Gr8Kat - hmmmm, you’ve planted the seed of an idea. You know, my back yard would hold a nice selection of dopers. July, the grill, some good beer… we’re going to have to work on this.
I second the idea, TVGuy. It sounds like fun. And, Kallessa, I promise not to bring scotch eggs again…
It’s somebody else’s turn.
Sincere thanks to Czar for hosting and suggesting the very cozy fest. (Though we all touched his Moderator’s Mug ™ when he wasn’t looking).
Special congratulations to Ferrousling, one of the nicest and politest offspring I’ve met in a longish time. I predict a rosy future for him.
And. Gr8Kat, I promise to sit closer next time, since I seemed to do a great deal of (beer-lubricated) talking.
What a neat bunch of folks!
Aw, thanks Homey! I’ll tell him you said so.
And the cookout idea sounds great.
I’ll bring the haggis.
Now see here–first it was scotch eggs, now it’s haggis. HAGGIS! What are you trying to do–convince everyone that Portlandians and near-bys have no sense of taste? Give the city the reputation as having the food that even Britain has left behind? Cold toast! Weak tea! What about toad-in-the-hole and bangers and mash?Okay, these things are actually quite good if done correctly, so it kind of destroys my point, but really! Don’t forget the Irish–corn beef and cabbage anyone? It’s a BBQ, not a boiled meats party!!! People, people, people! :smack:
Of course, it you were to bring whiskey to go with the haggis . . .
Better yet, forget the haggis, just bring whiskey.
In that case, I’ll bring the Tully.
OK, Kallessa, I rarely if ever actually laugh outloud by myself sitting in front of my computer.
You made me.
Mmmmmm … how about a nice, big tripe sandwich??
Thanks again, Hometownboy, for the Scotch eggs.
I’ll have the photos up soon; I’ll bump this thread to let y’all know when they’re up. I warn you in advance that I am a lousy photographer.
BTW, Czarcasm, post-'fest we did in fact return downtown and found Powell Books. Holy cow, that place is awesome. (The parking structure left a lot to be desired, though. ) I’ve never seen a bookstore so big it needed to be organized into color-coded rooms. Or where you needed a map to get around. I mean, jeez, some tourist attractions back home don’t require maps!
We stayed there for about an hour. KKB bought two books (by his former college professors). I got tempted by a collection of time-travel short stories, but I already have a decent sized book-reading queue. But I think it’s pretty much settled that we’re going back there the next time we’re in town.
