Is MODERN FAMILY typically this dirty?

You’re not yourself, I guess.

Which may be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on television (YMMV, of course).

On the recent Australia episode, Cam & Mitch were talking to their celebrity Australian friend, about how they had just missed Hugh Jackman (very disappointing to C & M) and his boat, and the friend said that he was “standing on his deck” – with an Aussie accent. C & M said “his what?!?..oh, deck.”

Again, suggestively filthy, but likely to go right over one’s head.

The OP has a whole different threshold of “dirty” than I have.

With his Kiwi accent. That was a New Zealander.

There was an episode where Cam takes over as the director for Luke and Manny’s school’s musical production. He’s telling Mitchell about how much he’s looking forward to introducing the students to great Broadway show tunes, and says something like “I remember the first time I was Sondheimized.”

Band Name!

This week, Phil had this triple entendre while describing Claire’s old boyfriend: “He took his eye off the ball and struck out, so I stepped up to the plate and nailed her in the cheap seats.”

In that episode all the children end up holding a banner that read “we love the F word.”

Plus, in the episode where the kids walk in on Phil and Clair, they were clearly doing it doggy style.

Same thing.

Nothing to do with dirtiness, but since this is a Modern Family thread I thought I’d throw this out there:

Twice, they’ve gone to great lengths to set up a very obvious joke – and then let it go.

A few seasons back, in the episode where Cam & Mitch are protesting the cutting of a tree in the park. Cam comes to the site straight from his role in a production of Cats, in costume, and sits in the tree; policemen talk him down. Not once does anyone make a reference to a “Cat stuck in a tree”.

In the Australia episode, Claire keeps referring to her work on the closet contract as “her baby”. A dingo walks off with her laptop, and Claire says “a wild dog took my laptop!”…not “a dingo stole my baby”.

Kudos.

I think you’re misremembering the cat in the tree episode. Firemen had to come and get him down.

You’re right; which makes it even more surprising that no one ever says “hey, we’re firemen, getting a cat out of a tree.” They just leave it to the viewer to connect the dots.

I don’t believe he did. The sentence is simply “Remind me never to date you,” followed by Haley saying he could never get her and Luke saying he could easily.

Look, I’m wasn’t offended by the joke, just surprised, because my limited viewing had given me an erroneous impression of the show.
