Best line in show:
“I’m taking the Butterball!”

Phil writhing in pain, touching his nose to indicate the card scalper was correct.
Side note: a few years ago, Ty Burrell played a TV reporter on a series called Back to You. In one episode it was his job to show the audience what it was like to get hit by a taser.
My favorite part was Claire bringing Haley’s inner-shopper to the surface in Target. Phil getting tasered was a little too sit-commy, but the ‘on the nose’ bit was funny.
What did Lily say to the tree salesman?
“I have two daddies.”
Juan’s not your name!
Can we all please agree to a moratorium on complaining about sit-coms being sit-commy? I mean, c’mon.
That was my favorite…
I don’t hear a difference… Luke sounds like look.
No it doesn’t… one’s my name.
Juan’s not your name.
… Prancer and Vixen. Oh look, that worked out.
I know what you mean, but this sit-com seems to be a little above the run-of-the-mill sitcoms (at least, to its fans) so when it descends to average sit-com level, it’s worth noting.
I loved Haley’s pulling back her jacket and showing cleavage until the guy answered his phone with a very gay “Yes Ronald…”.
“Save that story for Wang Fu.”
It’s hard to remember that the actress who plays Haley is 22 years old, as she really looks like a high-school aged girl 99% of the time, but every once in a while, you can tell she’s actually an adult…
Tons of hilarious moments throughout this episode. I found myself mildly irked by the shopping trip, what with the Target logos filling every square inch of free space on the screen – 'Kay, I get it, you’re shopping in Target and Target is a show sponsor. But aside from that, there were tons of great moments and great lines all the way through. Claire’s speech to Hailey, Luke torturing Manny with concerns of his being abducted, Jay wrapping presents with Cam, etc… Very good episode.
It was pretty annoying, but it also made sense in that it had to be a store in which employees are instantly recognizable by red polos and tan khakis. That was part of the setup of the payoff of the joke, that she stole the employee’s shirt to swipe the other shopper’s item. If it had been Sears or Penney’s, it wouldn’t have worked. The employees at Best Buy wear the blue shirts, but they wouldn’t have been shopping for the whole family at Best Buy. Target made sense.
Or Claire seeing Phil and Manny coming in -
“Here comes Phil with the butterball!”
“I have a name.” (From Manny.)
And Cam with his hands in the air as he is labelled Prancer, of course.
Yes, that was hilarious!
“Thees will be his last chance to have Christmas with his family…”
“You do mean ‘my last’ until next year, right?”
Geek question: Any idea what kind of fake snow that was at the end? It clung together like actual snow, but ‘movie snow’ doesn’t.
I just assumed it was actual ‘fake snow’ from a ‘fake snow’ machine like they use on ski hills.
For me it was ‘FORTY FIVE SECONDS!?’
Hated the episode with a burning passion
(btw did I mention I work at Target?)
Ok seriously I thought it was funny. Phil naming the reindeer, the Target prank and holy hell that girl is 22?!? Finally I can not feel creepy having a crush on her.
I couldn’t watch past the opening scenes. I like Modern Family over-all, but I dislike the scenes where they are all together, and speaking rapid fire in turn. It feels extremely constructed to me, and I couldn’t get past it.
