Is Pete Davidson's life really that interesting?

Bupkis is on Peacock.

He got SNL just like everyone else. He was a working comic and he was invited to audition. Lorne Michaels liked him.

The King of Staten Island happened because Judd Apatow wanted to make a new movie and thought it was a good story.

Bupkis happened because Lorne Michaels likes Pete Davidson and wanted to make a show with him. Peacock is NBC’s streaming service and Lorne has a little pull at the network.

It isn’t more complicated than that.

I don’t know… Fred Armisen seems to be playing AA ball, while Pete is in the majors, in terms of beauty.

Still though, being on SNL probably makes people more famous and prominent than any of us realize or want to admit.

I dunno - Pete isn’t the one who started having an affair with Olivia Munn and got her pregnant before his divorce went through.

I will give Bupkis a try. Edie Falco and Joe Pesci are enough to get me to try. The large number of cameos might be great or it’s going to be distracting.

I’m a cishet guy so not the best judge of these things, but I think Pete is far more attractive and less annoying than Fred.

I don’t understand the mystery behind Pete. He seems to be a cool, funny, laid back guy who looks reasonably attractive. Plus he’s got some money and fame and success. What’s not to like? I wanna be his friend!

Agree with all that.

Great, I will be able to give it a try then.

As I’ve said more than once, I don’t have anything against the guy, and am happy for his success. I haven’t suggested he’s untalented or undeserving of it. I’m just bemused at the extent to which he’s managed to use his life story as fodder for entertainment content, in several different iterations.

Oops, I guess I did suggest he was untalented. I mean, honestly I don’t find him all that funny, and I watched one of his stand up shows. But I don’t dislike him as a person, at least.

Look at the relative ages of Davidson and the women he’s dated:

Carly Aquilino +3

Cazzie David -1

Ariana Grande 0

Kate Beckinsale +20

Margaret Qualley -1

Kaia Gerber -8

Phoebe Dynevor -1

Kim Kardashian +13

Emily Ratajkowski +2

Five of the nine were between one year younger to three years older. One was eight years younger. One was 13 years older and one was 20 years older. Suppose in the communities you grew up in and/or now live in a divorced woman was to date a single man who was 13 or 20 years younger. I suspect that in such cases the reaction of the neighbors and relatives would be “yeah, so just getting over her divorce. She knows that there’s little chance of that lasting. He just thinks it would be fun to mess around with an older woman. Eventually he’s going to dump her and date a younger woman he could have kids with.” (I’m not praising that opinion of the community, just reporting it.) On the other hand, a man who dates a woman 13 or 20 years younger would be expected to think it would last so they would marry and have kids. (Again, I’m just reporting the opinion, not praising it.)

I suspect that Davidman dated Kardashian and Beckinsale with him knowing (and his partner also knowing) that it wouldn’t last. Yes, this different treatment of relationships of a large number of years difference of ages is slowly disappearing. Still, on the average, the man is 2.3 years older than the woman (in the U.S.).

Excuse me. I should have written “six of the nine”. I need to be more careful in checking that my posts have no such errors.

Beckinsale dates young comics. In addition to Davidson she dated Matt Rife and Jack Whitehall. I don’t think either of them thought it was anything but a fling.

Kim Kardashian he brought home to Staten Island to show her where he was from. He got her initials and the initials of her kids on his neck. He talked about having a family with her. It wasn’t the same.

I’m not tuned into celebrity gossip in general but I do follow the comedy scene, especially the NYC comedy scene. He’s a frequent topic on comedy podcasts.

Interestingly, he was on comedy radio today. Because of this thread, I paid slightly more attention. He talked about being placed in a class for mentally challenged children when at school and drawing doodles on his tests and hoping to smoke less dope. It wasn’t hilarious. But it was laid back and somewhat humble. All comedians talk about stuff they observe or that happened to them. It probably does not represent their life, and you can observe interesting or funny things even if your life is dull.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Kim Kardashian, they dated from November 2021 to August 2022. Kardashian would have been 41 during that time. At the least it would have been pushing it to expect her to have children with Davidson. This is especially true since she already had four children. Certainly there are many cases where a woman didn’t have her first child until her forties. For instance, to give the greatest age for a celebrity recently, Laura Linney had her first (and presumably only) child when she was less than a month from her fiftieth birthday. But then she really wanted to have at least one child. Kardashian already had four children. Perhaps Davidson was fooling himself.

At least two of her children were born via surrogates and she was under 40 at the time. A world of possibilities open up when you are a billionaire.

I dunno, my grandmother had her eighth at 43. Some folks are just good at having babies.

As to Mr. Davidson: His life seems more interesting than mine. I mean, mine’s pretty good, but not even TV good.

Hillary Swank just had twins and she is just shy of 49. They are her only children.

Like misspelling a name?

Sorry. I really wouldn’t have nitpicked like that, but I couldn’t resist the irony.

So, update: I finally got around to watching the first episode of Bupkis last night-- had sort of forgotten about it, but Mrs. solost and I are kind of between shows to watch, and I said hey, what about this Bupkis show?

Pretty funny! I found myself LOLing a few times.

SNL guys have been doing well for themselves in terms of dating beautiful famous women. See also Jason Sudeikis with Olivia Wilde and Colin Jost with Scarlett Johansson.

When women are asked what qualities attract them to certain men, they often give “a good sense of humor” as the #1 answer. To which many guys will scoff at-- “yeah right ”.

But I guess it is true, at least for some women!

There seems to be a presumption that people’s first impression is the only thing that matters. And sure, maybe we all do that with celebrities whose only exposure is a single picture or short video clip.

A sense of humor is not necessarily the first thing anybody would notice but it should come as no surprise it makes a significant difference for any relationship lasting longer than a one night stand
