Speaking as an advertising professional: if it’s not a PR stunt, I’ll be stunned. I’d wager that Mr. Peanut has very high recognition (and a strong link with the Planters brand), and that’s not something that one walks away from without an extremely good reason.
Isn’t “killing” the company spokescharacter considered jumping the shark in PR terms? Seems like a desperate call for attention to me.
Well we got our answer during the Super Bowl: he was reborn as “Baby Nut”.
Whether they use Baby Nut in place of Mr. Peanut in all advertising and packaging going forward remains to be seen.
I wonder if they stole the idea from the Groot character in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Someone should have run the “Baby Nut” name past a room full of 13 year olds before they settled on it! :smack:
