Yes, Sinwar was notorious for being the (alleged) roadblock for every attempt to bring the hostages home.

Once the hostages are freed, Hamas has no hope of survival.

I can’t argue with that; still, it’s depressing to know that people are willing to live by ‘cut off my nose to spite my face’ when the consequences could be so dire.

Yeah. When both participants have what they consider to be irrefutable reasons to decline to do something, then that something IS unlikely to be done.
