Is there a list to mod Mafia games on the SDMB?

And if so, may I be on it?

From what I’ve been told there is no list. I was told that with the new Game Room any number of mafia games could be run simultaneously. The limiting factor will be interest.
I don’t think the Moderators want to be involved in maintaining lists.

The buzz in the forum is Hal Briston has a plan but is busy.
NAF/USCDiver have something cooking, but don’t want to run it unless there is a newbie game available at the same time.
Pleonast has plans for the summer.

That’s all I know.

Correct – I had planned on running Newbie Mafia, dedicated to giving first-time players a non-intimidating game in order to get their feet wet (before being brutally murdered overnight). However, life and work have conspired to concoct a dastardly plan, the upshot of which is that I don’t really have the time to mod a game right now.

Between the SDMB and the off-board site, we’ve seen a pretty good influx of new blood recently, so I’m not even sure if Newbie Mafia is even needed right now. However, if anyone wants to run the game in my stead, I’ll be happy to turn over all I have on it.

ooo! ooo! ooo! That’s me! I’m a Mafia Newbie! When’s the new game?

I’d join a Mafia game for a newbie I don’t have anything major coming up that I know of.

Pleeeeease somebody do Newbie Mafia? Please? I’ve been reading the games and I want to play so bad! How’s come all the cool kids get a game and I don’t?

I can’t run it by myself (I plan on running the game for USC while it goes on) but would be happy to help out. Though I really wanted to be on that advisory board.

I’ll verify that there is no list, and no limit on games. Of course, you may not get as many players if there’s 5 games going on.

I’m also considering running a game, but I’m going to give it a couple of weeks or so to see if anyone else starts one, since I just finished one up not too long ago. I’ll be happy to run a newbie-friendly game.

I’m also thinking about running a game at some point. It wouldn’t be a “newbie game” per se, but I definitely want to make it newbie friendly.

I don’t want to horn in on somebody else’s game, though, so I don’t know when I’d want to start it.

I’d be willing to play in a newbie game if someone ran one. (I’ve only been involved in one game so far, so I think I can still qualify as a newbie, even if I’ve lasted much longer than I thought I would. Plus having someone in the game with a little bit of experience might not be bad.)

Yeah…you know after Batman there is no way you qualify for a noob game right?

Why are all the experienced mods just hanging back so as to “not get in anybody else’s way”? There’s plenty of people who want to play - start one! It’s not like there’s three running here - I know there are some off-board ones, but as for the SDMB there’s just the one and it’s getting on the mature side.

Well for the game I am going to run, it will be limited to peole who have played at least 2 games on the SDMB. So I don’t want to run that one without being sure that there is a game going on to allow new people to play.

And right now I am out of other ideas.

How hard is it to run one? I have an idea for a scenerio. But I’ve only played one complete game, and am at the beginning of my second one (both on another board)

Not too hard, PM me and I will be happy to help you set it up.

I’d recommend playing at least one game just to get the idea of the mechanics of dealing with Mafia on a message board, and knowing the general gist of what’s expected of you as a game master. If you’ve done one, it’s up to you. I’ve played 4 games now (3 when I ref’ed) but I’ve had a very short life expectancy so I’d consider it less. I got killed Night One one of those games.

However, I’d recommend that you wait until you’re not playing to run for the first time. It’s a lot of pressure, making sure you’ve got the vote counts right and have everything organized.

thank you - when I am ready, I will - For now I am taking **Fluid’**s advice and waiting until my current game is finished. (we’re kind of stuck - we can’t agree on our first lynching :dubious: does that happen a lot?)

There’s seldom any real consensus on a first lynching, in my experience. You’re lucky if you get real consensus on any lynching in some games!

Anyhow, Hal was kind enough to send me his info on the newbie game with the panel, so barring any strong opinions from someone who wants to run, I’ll probably start up a new game in the next couple of weeks for the newbie crew. It’ll be a smallish game to make sure it doesn’t drag out too long, and of course there’ll be plenty of veterans kicking around as Simpletown gets closer and closer to wrapping up (go Town). You’re certainly welcome to start your game anytime. I think we have enough players kicking around, especially if we start actively recruiting some new folks to stop spectating and play.

I’d like, but until summer starts, I won’t have enough time, and probably not than anyway, so don’t put me down.
And it’s very hard to type with a missing space bar.

It’s probably a good idea not to do both at once for your first game modding. Also, modding will take more time than you would probably expect. But it can also be really a lot of fun.

You being stuck makes me think you are playing at mafiascum, am I right? I don’t play over there but I do read a lot of those games; we do play a tiny bit differently over here than they do. The biggest difference is how we lynch folks. It changes game to game how the actual lynch mechanism works, but there is always a firm deadline of some sort (so getting stuck isn’t ever really a problem).
