Is there a list to mod Mafia games on the SDMB?

[QUOTE=fluiddruid]
There’s seldom any real consensus on a first lynching, in my experience. You’re lucky if you get real consensus on any lynching in some games!

Anyhow, Hal was kind enough to send me his info on the newbie game with the panel, so barring any strong opinions from someone who wants to run, I’ll probably start up a new game in the next couple of weeks for the newbie crew. It’ll be a smallish game to make sure it doesn’t drag out too long, and of course there’ll be plenty of veterans kicking around as Simpletown gets closer and closer to wrapping up (go Town). You’re certainly welcome to start your game anytime. I think we have enough players kicking around, especially if we start actively recruiting some new folks to stop spectating and play.

Are you going to run Hal’s game then? Yay, it sounded really cool. If I can weezle my way onto the advisory board I would love to.

It’s probably a good idea not to do both at once for your first game modding. Also, modding will take more time than you would probably expect. But it can also be really a lot of fun.

You being stuck makes me think you are playing at mafiascum, am I right? I don’t play over there but I do read a lot of those games; we do play a tiny bit differently over here than they do. The biggest difference is how we lynch folks. It changes game to game how the actual lynch mechanism works, but there is always a firm deadline of some sort (so getting stuck isn’t ever really a problem).

no, not at mafiascum; at what beebs calls “the happy place”

Maybe I’ll try and get mine started this weekend (or early next week, if life interferes), I guess – it sounds like there might be interest. It’ll be newbie-friendly, but not for new players only.

I’ve been reading games at mafiascum… man, they go on forever. (The newbie ones, at any rate - that’s what I’ve been reading.) Seriously, why is there no deadline? I’m in their list to join a newbie game, but I’m not sure if I want to if it’s going to be the game version of “I don’t know, what do you want for dinner?”

I have the rules worked out for a second run of Conspiracy. My work schedule is tight for the next month or so, but I’m hoping to be able to start it up in June. It will be fast paced, with a high death count, and not last too long.

It’ll be similar to the first game I ran, with potentially four factions working against each other. All the roles will be publicly known, but not necessarily in the game. Some roles will have secret powers. No recruitment this time. I’m not going to allow substitutions, either.

Although the set up is complicated, since everyone is a power role and no single person is critical for a team’s victory, it’s certainly possible for the less experienced to play. I’ve balanced it for a wide number of players, so I can handle as many or as few players as want to play.

If you’re curious, here are my preliminary rules. Still working on the color (that’s the hardest part for me).

Yay! Not that recruitment worked out all too well for the scum last time

And I don’t think we had any substitutions in the last game (Did we? I don’t quite remember). That game was unusual in that there were no substitutions, no scum misposts, and no Moderator errors. Truly a Conspiracy!

No, none that you remember. Oops! I said to much.

I liked having no subs, and decided I’d make it official.

I seem to recall dotchan subbing for MtS.

One request, Pleonast, when you are ready to start, please post the recruitment link in this thread.
Thanks

I think NAF and I are pretty close to having our game ready. We want to give the veterans a game to play while the Newbies have their game.

Well for the game I am going to run, it will be limited to peole who have played at least 2 games on the SDMB. So I don’t want to run that one without being sure that there is a game going on to allow new people to play.

And right now I am out of other ideas.

Just curious here…by 2 games on the SDMB, does the off-site board count as well? Because I’ve played in enough of the off-site games but not any here since I just registered as a guest recently. And obviously I’ve been using a different name over there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Who are you Pollux? I was thinking offsite games count, they are kind of like SDMB extention games.

Well, basically I’ve been using that as my internet identity for most of my school years and now that I’ve graduated I just thought it was time for something new.

Also I wanted to see if I could do a better job at a stealthy infiltration of the Dope than Roosh.

Good work on that one.

And yes, you qualify for the game, a game we are tentativly calling…

Cecilvania!

I wonder if it would be at all helpul to have some of the newer blood participate in setting up some of these games. And by participate I merely mean trying to learn some of the mechanics so that when playing they have more of a sense of the nuances that go on. I’d truly enjoy just observing what some of the vets thought processes are in setting something up that is fair to all.

so your game is closer to Warewolves and Vampires than it is to Mafia, what with all your enpwered characters. Do I understand that correctly?

Yeah, we thought it would be fun to throw things back to the werewolf theme that started it all. A sleepy village with werewolves trying to take over.
