Is there a list to mod Mafia games on the SDMB?

I think you made the best decision available to you given the circumstances. On one side, I’m a big fan of clearly stated rules with no wiggle room. On the other, the sekham game showed that wiggling is sometimes necessary.

Why? Because the Town had enough players to still win with the loss of a few without jeopardizing their victory? If that’s the case they’ve won the game anyway–the suicides simply speed up the process. Once the number of unconfirmed Town is greater than the number of allowed mislynches, it’s over.

Of course, this is a moot point under my Conspiracy rules, because of the reduced number of Town to begin with and the multiple factions.

The reason was Town was on the bubble.
At the time of the suicide the number of confirmed EQUALED the number of unconfirmed – close to a win, but not guaranteed. By having one unconfirmed commit suicide, it tipped the balance such that the number of confirmed was greater than the number of unconfirmed, thus guaranteeing the Town Win.

The trouble is, Town could have done the same thing earlier in the game when the number of confirmed was LESS than the number of unconfirmed, but greater than the number of scum. By having all unconfirmed Town commit suicide, modkill rules can be exploited to eliminate unknowns and isolate scum.

For example:
3 confirmed Town, 7 unknown (2 scum, 5 Town).
If the 5 unknown Town commit suicide, then the Town automatically wins.

Hmm, I’ll have to think about this some more. It seems to me the key factor is that there are more confirmed Town than Scum.

I think the best prevention of the situation is Scum who don’t let the number of confirmed increase. There’s a risk of a mass confirmation, though.

I don’t like an instant-loss rule. That’s too harsh a penalty to an entire team if one member makes a mistake.

The intention is instant loss for the Mod-Killed player*. Everyone else remains unaffected.

If anyone reading this thread would like to play in Doperville Mafia, I need one replacement. First person to PM me gets the spot.

I’m bumping this since the Doperville game just ended. I dunno when the Cecilvania game will end but I’d like to throw this idea out there.

One of the ideas I was throwing around for a theme when I was planning for the game I’m hosting on the other board was a “TV show character” mafia, where everybody is a character for a TV show. I eventually scrapped the idea because I felt the set-up was too similar to previous games and I came up with the apocalypse setting which I liked more overall as a theme.

However, I came up with a new idea, and Roosh has said that he’d like to co-host it with me. The premise would be the players would sign up for the game, and each player sends in 4-5 of their favorite TV show characters. The mods would pick a character from each player’s list and create a role around the character on the spot. So the game’s set-up wouldn’t be created until the players had been chosen.

It would be a no-vanilla game like Conspiracy and Batman. The only knowledge the players would have of the set-up would be that they know at least one of the characters they submitted is in the game.

I know Pleonast’s Conspiracy II is probably coming up soon on the board and two “no vanilla” games might be too much at one time, but Roosh was hoping to start it in Julyish since he’s going to be really busy come late August. If there’s interest in it we can do it whenever, since we won’t know the set-up until the players make their lists.

I like that Idea, Pollux Oil. It sort of eliminates the mass-claim problem that some theme games have, because any character could be a possible role. I would love to play it. Great flavor possibilities, too.

So in other words, you wouldn’t necessarily BE one of your own, you’d just know that out of the four or whatever you submitted that one is in it… but you don’t know if you duplicated anybody else? That sounds cool. Start it soon!

Leave it to a bunch of dopers to figure out so many ways to break what should be a relatively straight forward game. Seriously, you gals/guys are off the map.

When are we eliminating world hunger?

Once we have figured out a way to lynch scum every time. Come on man, where are your priorities?

To Pollux Oil: That sounds fun, would defenitly want to do that.

Also, I’ve been kicking around an idea of my own. It would be a relatively straightforward game, except that all of the votes would be by Borda Count. The idea is that it would eliminate the “vote for one of the two frontrunners” mentality, but it seems like it could go all over the place. Perhaps we could merge that into another new game? Or I could round out the rules and see if I could get someone to mod it (since I don’t think I have the persistance to mod a game yet).

And who is going to come up with a way to analyze THOSE voting patterns?!

That’s cool that some people are interested in it. I’m currently hosting the off-board game, but I don’t think I’d have a problem with hosting two games at once if it comes to that. I mean, it can’t be as bad as playing in two games at once, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still gonna wait and see where Pleonast is at with his Conspiracy Redux though.

Well, somebody start one soon. I got night killed on night 2 of Doperville and I have the fever.

Sorry, the only kind of Mafia I’d have the energy to run right now would be a LOLCATS Mini - 13 players, 3 scum, 1 roleblocker, 1 cop, everybody has to post with cat macros or in the style thereof.

It sort of worked on the offboard site, but I don’t know how well that would fly on the SDMB.

What about Post-Restriction Mafia? Each player must post with a given theme, or by mod-killed! One player could be a LOLCATS fanatic, another could only post in iambic pentameter, maybe another has to post in the third person, etc. Could be entertaining on the 'Dope.

I’ve had a post Restriction game ready to go, but I was going to run it on the Off Board site, figuring you dopers wouldn’t want it here.

But yeah, I love PR Mafia Games, and running them.

Oh, is it time to start a new Mafia game? I’m ready to start. I didn’t want to step on the toes of the ones still running, but it seems we’re down to one.

I’ll start the thread for Conspiracy 2 today.

So it is written, so it is done.

Conspiracy 2: The Cabal Strikes Back!

I need at least 15 players, can handle up to 30.
