I made it up, but it’s so obvious that I can’t be the first. I took a package of yellow mix (it’s what I had) and mixed in a cup of water and 3 eggs. It called for a half cup of oil, but I subbed about a cup of apple pie filling, and folded it in rather than break it up with the mixer. It turned out pretty good!
It sounds like a dump cake.
It’s like a rhubarb cake I just made. The recipe called for four cups of rhubarb and a cup of heavy cream over the top before baking. It’s great with whipped cream.
Sort of a cobbler.
“Gimmee!” is its name-o.
AKA: a dump cake.
Although the recipe’s origin is uncertain, the formula for a dump cake is quite clear: All of the ingredients are “dumped” into a baking pan and placed in the oven. No mixing bowl—or mixing, for that matter—is required. The general recipe consists of canned fruit and cake mix, but you will find fresher and more sophisticated versions. Dump cakes are often confused with cobblers since it’s a baked fruit dessert topped with a crust.
The OP did mix together his ingredients. I do like dump cakes.
what an unfortunate name for such a good idea.
