Those three songs always give me that giddy, drive faster than I should feeling.
“Please Come to Boston” makes me feel wistful.
I know it’s pathetic, but “Solitary Man” and “Sweet Caroline” always make me feel good too. Maybe because my mother was such a fan of Neil Diamond, and it helps me to remember her.
[nitpick]
I’ve gotta just correct that Bittersweet Symphony is not only a song that forces you to feel pain and replace it with love; but any song that has Orchestral instrumentation is good enough for me
but I’ve also gotta comment that it was The Verve that sings it; not The Verve PIPE
“A Question of Lust” - Depeche Mode
“Against All Odds” - Phil Collins
“True Faith” - New Order
“There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” - The Smiths
“True Colors” - Cindy Lauper
“Fall On Me” - REM
“Anna Begins” - Counting Crows (I actually cry sometimes when I hear this one)
“Wonderwall” - Oasis
“Nice Dream” - Radiohead
“Sabotage” - Beastie Boys
Each one of these songs brings out a specific emotion in me every time I hear it.
I have posted this before (just so you don’t think I am sucking up to dpr,) but one of my absolutely most favorite songs forever is:
“The Dance”…Garth Brooks
A close second would have to be:
“Now and Forever”…Richard Marx
And of course:
“Amazing Grace” with bagpipes. And Judy Collins.
There are so many others, but I am in a puddle on the floor just thinking about the ones I have already mentioned, and I can’t think clearly right now.
Ooh! Good one! I like Suite Sister Mary better, myself… and Spreading the Disease. (I used “She’s Sister Mary now/Eyes as cold as ice/He takes her once a week/On the alter like a sacrifice” as a sig for awhile) But as an album as a whole, I love MindCrime. I put it in when I’m depressed and, for some ODD reason, it makes me feel better.
And I’ll drop EVERYTHING and silence everyone in the room to hear any of these:
Poison Ivy - The Coasters She Loves You - The Beatles San Francisco Nights - Eric Burdon & The Animals Have You Seen Her - The Chi-Lites Let’s Make the Water Turn Black - Mothers of Invention Wheels - Emmylou Harris The Ghost in You - Psychedelic Furs Live to Tell - Madonna (I think that’s the name of the song; it was associated with a Sean Penn/Christopher Walken flick) In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel Jeremy - Pearl Jam
“Music of the Night” from PHANTOM. Actually, ANYTHING sung by Michael Crawford.
“Being Alive” from COMPANY (I think.) I’ve heard two versions, one by MC and one by Patti LuPone and I resonate with both.
“I’m Still Standing” by Elton John. Really hit home for me, I was going through a tough time and had just come out the other side.
“Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. Became “our song” when I met my husband, although he prefers “Send for Me” also by Nat.
And, for very personal reasons,
“Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. OK, Caroline is my true first name, and Neil and I share a birthday. Plus I’m a huge fan (how can anyone go to a live concert of his and NOT have a good time??)

“The Boxer” by Simon & Garfunkel. Great lyrics, awesome harmony.
“My Hometown” by the Boss.
“Someone Saved My Life Tonight” by Elton John
“In the Ghetto” by Elvis Presley
“Take My Breath Away” by Berlin - makes me want to rip the nearest guy’s clothes off.
“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot (HEY! No cracks from the peanut gallery!) - it’s informative, it’s intriguing and I like the melody.
“(Our Love) Don’t Throw it All Away” by Andy Gibb (because it brings back great memories of my youth)
“Faithfully” by Journey. I spent many an hour making out to this song. And I used to have a wild crush on Steve Perry (whatever happened to him anyway?)
Mr. Roboto Styx
and The Abduction from the Seraglio, K. 384, Chorus of the Janissarie’s (arr.) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Whew! I had to look up that last one. Normally I would just say “Track 10” on Vol. 2 of the Amadeus soundtrack.
These are off the top of my head - there are many more.
In My Life - The Beatles
Imagine - John Lennon
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Everybody Hurts - REM
You Can’t Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Though I was in high school in the early 80s, I grew up listening to 60s music, since my older sibling were always playing the Beatles, the Stones, etc.
