Is There An iPad App for SDMB?

The reason I ask is that whenever I go into Google Chrome on my iPad and try to access this board, I get a message saying there is an app, and asking me whether I want to install it. When I answer “yes” and am taken to the App Store, I get a message saying the app isn’t available in my country. So is there an app for that, or not?

:dubious:

Is Tapatalk the app you are trying to download? Because that is the only one I’m aware of and it should work on an iPad. I just don’t know if it is available outside the US.

If you are on an iPad, you should get a popup for Tapatalk. Since you are using Chrome you might also get a notification for the Tapatalk Notifier add-on for Chrome.

If your cookies are working properly, you should only see the notification once (well, the cookies are set to expire, so you’ll probably see the notifications again eventually at some point, but you shouldn’t get them every time). We’ve had problems on some Apple devices with users getting the notifications repeatedly. This seems to be a bug in those devices.

You will sometimes get that “not available in your country” error message when they are updating Tapatalk. If you keep getting it though it could be that the link it is sending you to is borked. If you really want to try out Tapatalk, you should be able to find it by browsing through the app store.

For the benefit of others coming into this thread, the Tapatalk notification is also displayed for iPhone, iPod Touch, Kindle Fire, Android, and Blackberry.

It might just be b/c they are using private browsing mode in Safari.

Yes, that’s the one it asks me to download. But when I go to the app store it tells me it’s not available in my country. I am in the USA.

So am I and I use it every day. No idea why you would get that message and I’m not savvy enough to give you an answer. Hopefully someone else will come along who knows more than I do about things like this.

Even if you search for Tapatalk manually? Because I had to do that on my Android phone.

I did find Tapatalk manually and installed it. I guess it’s ok, though now that I’ve used it, I don’t really see that it’s superior to accessing the board through Chrome, which is what I’m doing right now. But it was worth a try…

I tried Tapatalk and hated it. In fact, it was the app that inspired my first two rules of mobile apps:

  1. You do not install apps that have “tap” in the name.
  2. You DO NOT install apps that have “tap” in the name.
