Is there anyone else out there who isn't interested in the Super Bowl?

Shortly after I moved into my previous house, I painted the stairs dark green and yellow. A visitor remarked “Oh, you’re a Packer fan!” Me: “Packer???” Once the Packer religion was explained to me, I repainted the stairs.

Never watched the Super Bowl that I can recall. It exists only to provide me with another Budweiser Clydesdale commercial which I catch on youtube.

I can’t wait for the Super Bowl to be over so that Tom Brady’s cold isn’t discussed repeatedly on the goddamn news.

As a lifelong Packers fan, usually I’m very interested in the Super Bowl (go ahead, boo me if you want). However, this year…

a) The Patriots and Seahawks are playing. Two teams that have arguably been the class of their respective conferences all season. Two teams that I am, at worst, neutral toward and sometimes actively pull for. But right now, if I hear any more about Deflate-gate, I may lose my lunch. And the Packer’s loss two weeks ago was painful enough (think Bill Simmons-fourteen-levels-of-losing painful) without me having to hear any more from Seattle fans than I already have (thank goodness I was sleeping through it because I had to go to work that night).

b) I am, as of now, in the middle of what is essentially a 65-hour work week. If I get home early tomorrow, go to church and then go right to sleep, I might wake up in time for the kickoff. I don’t have to work Sunday night, but I may still be running on fumes.

c) If the game were on CBS or Fox, no problem. I’d still stay at home and watch it, because, it’s still the freaking Super Bowl. Unfortunately, it’s on NBC, and the lousy station that’s allegedly my local affiliate has a lousy translator station with a lousy signal which I can’t get. So watching it at home is out.

d) Would I go out and watch it? Maybe, but everyone I know who I would want to watch it with has plans, and everyone I could conceivably watch it with, I wouldn’t want to spend 4-5 hours with for that. Going out to a restaurant or bar… overpriced food and drinks, drunken noisy crowds, plus some jagoff waitress or bartender interrupting the commercials with some PA announcement turned up to 12 so I couldn’t even enjoy the commercials properly? Plus my aforementioned energy level? I’ll probably pass.

Bottom line, I’m slightly interested in the game (and I know it’s actually a really good matchup, with the potential to be a classic), but actually there’s like a 5% chance I’ll actually watch. If anything, I’ll stay home and listen to the radio call (and there’s no guarantee I’ll even do that).

Sorry, league, maybe next year.

I understand. I’m not watching because my Saints aren’t playing. :frowning:

Anyway, it’s my wedding anniversary, so I have other plans. Thanks to the Super Bowl, we should be able to dine without a crowd tomorrow night. :stuck_out_tongue:

I heard a couple of weeks ago that Green Bay would probably be in it. Now I hear it won’t. Meh, either way.

I must admit I’d like to see that ad with the big boobs chick again, but not so much that I’d sit through the game.

Hey, that’s my plan too!

Sadly, I think we are NOT going to Disneyland now. I’m not feeling well, so I think we’re going to end up watching the game. It’s the circle of entertainment life!

No interest in it or the commercials.

We’re right smack in the middle of the track of Winter Storm Linus (per the Weather Channel) so I’ll probably be stuck at home anyway. And I’ll watch something else.

While we’re on the subject, I am really tired of hearing about Aaron Hernandez. It’s the OJ of 2015.

It’s supposed to indicate their social class.

I would follow your link, but I can’t do anything so plebeian as READ. That’s for the little people.

I can’t have just decided that I didn’t want to watch it anymore?

I used to love playing hand-egg, but I’ve completely lost interest in watching it over the years. It’s got nothing to do with social class, I just decided if I was going to take time out of my life to watch a sport, it wasn’t going to be for that. It’s a boring game to watch, almost as bad as baseball.

This board is particularly prone to a sort of elitism through ignorance. Take a look through threads to note how many people will not just “Not watch it anymore” but will act like they can’t figure out how to turn on the TV.

If you actually just lost interest, you wouldn’t need to use an insulting nickname for the game.

But here I am, having lost interest in said game (I played offensive tackle and guard, BTW), using said “insulting” name for it (which is actually a far more accurate name). I guess I’m the exception that “proves” your nonsense rule.

ETA: And I use the “insulting” name, because people that take offense at it are foolish, and out themselves by objecting to it. A rose by any other name…

You’re quite correct that the viewership numbers for the Super Bowl are typically only about half (or even less) of the US population total. But for anyone who listens to radio or watches television, this past week or so has been Super Bowl-saturation coverage. I’m not talking about sports-oriented channels or shows, but about mainstream news and venues that normally cover politics or the like.

So those of us who have little enthusiasm for the Big Event are pleased to find other like-minded souls. Hence: a thread.

I don’t care about the super bowl at all. I used to watch it for the commercials and halftime, but those have been have become so overhyped (is “black fridayed” a phrase?) that I don’t care about them any more either.

The last year that I was single, I watched Pretty Woman on TBS while the super bowl was on. It was a Koothrapolli moment.

I’ll watch it, because my wife does. It isn’t the Packers, and it will never be the Browns, so I don’t really care who wins. I’ll watch if it’s a good game. Too often it is a blow-out. I have a book for when it gets boring. And it helps to drink heavily.

Shodan

Awww… It was precious watching you try to cram that adorable little name into multiple posts, just drooling at the thought that someone would take your bait. It reminded me of my son, when he was four, and I’m just thrilled for you that someone finally bit down on the hook.

No interest in watching but I can always check out the best commercials online the following day…
