Look: I am not moving the thread about videotaping arrests because it’s a debate topic and it’s in the correct forum. In what forum would it be a better fit? It certainly isn’t a Pit thread. You were just complaining about some posters and debate tactics you don’t like, threads like that belong in the Pit.
Quoting from multiple parts of the same post is a little time consuming. You either have to type out [noparse]
[/noparse] around each line you’re quoting, or you can highlight the quotes and hit the button that looks like a quote bubble.

One time I showed up at a book club and wanted to talk about Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. They told me it was actually a science fiction book club and they were discussing Heinlein, but there was a self-help book club meeting right across the hall. That wasn’t good enough, so I started screaming and kicking my legs and trying to fight everybody! What kind of way is that to make someone feel welcome on his first day?
Maybe I’m not explaining myself well. But if you take some text in the reply field, highlight it, and press that button, quote tags should appear around the highlighted text.
Ha ok, I thought you could do the mutiquote thing with parts of the very same post and avoid the tediousness of having to copy paste the code.
Hit the “Go Advanced” button. Type something in the box. Highlight it, then hit the third button from the right just above the box. Quote tags will appear around the highlighted words. So if you want to reply to someone and address their post piece by piece, you can hit “Quote,” so their reply appears in the box, then highlight sections and reply to them individually.
A more accurate analogy would be:
I showed up… the hall. I asked why one of the books on their list was “the boy who went to heaven and came back”. They stated that it has elements of science fiction . So I asked if they believed heaven was science fiction and why discuss a book as science fiction when the author clearly intended for it to be read as a spiritual guidance book. Members of the group proceeded to berate me and stating that I was stupid for saying that MafM,WafV IS a science fiction novel. When I corrected them that I never DID state that, they proceed to tell me I can leave if I don’t like it and making silly analogies again blowing things way out of proportion that I INSISTED that mafmwafv was fiction
When I state that well technically, from your defense of tbwwthacb, I can also say that mafmwafv is science because planets are involved but …
but of course your analogy is more appropriate for your prejudices so you will totally stick to it despite evidence to the contrary and I’m starting to get used to that now so I may join you later…

The “videotaping arrests” thread was started with the obvious intention of sparking a discussion about videotaping arrests.
Your thread was started with the obvious intention of sparking a discussion about derailing threads, as well as implicitly criticizing the debate style of some posters. You did NOT start a thread about whether fish were on Noah’s ark, despite titling it that way.
It wasn’t a big deal- your post was perfectly acceptable. It just didn’t belong in the Great Debates forum.
Is it possible for a poster to change the title of their post…I think this one should be changed to Is there favoritism in the board/ how to quote multiple times. Just because it seems others would also be helped by the 2nd convo
Here’s my analogy. And I hate doing this because in my experience, analogies mean the thread is going to go off topic right away:
You’re working in a supermarket. As you walk down Aisle 4, which is the cereal aisle, you see a bottle of salad dressing. Salad dressing goes in Aisle 7. But the salad dressing is next to a box of Corn Flakes. Do you also have to move the Corn Flakes to Aisle 7 because it would be unfair to move one thing and not move another, or does it make sense to move the thing that’s in the wrong place and leave the thing that’s already in the right place?
Another facet of SDMB culture: when moderators move the threads of Christians, they point downwards in triumph.

would you agree that there is no way for you to know for certain what the intentions of a poster is? and ‘obvious’ is a loaded and objective word? And that it apparently was NOT obvious to kayaker who asked “Is there a debate here”?
It is NOT a big deal, but I’m not gonna just sit by while people add words to my mouth that were never said. And the fact that the basis for their excuses is categorically untrue, note noone is taking me up on the offer to show me where I asked why posts were moved or questioned the move,

What evidence? Your thread topic might’ve been satire, or a thinly-disguised rant, or something less coherent (I’ve read it twice and still don’t quite get what you’re getting at, although you seem irritated about something). What it definitely wasn’t was a debate. You could be the bestest, most favoritest Golden Boy of a poster ever to be caressed by the kid gloves of this board’s doting moderators, and it still would’ve been yanked and thrown somewhere else, or just put out of its misery (as I’d have been inclined to do).
Moving a thread is not that big a deal. I think you are making more of this that it deserves.

these are not people saying I questioned the move when I did not? The last is not a hint to leave if I don’t like it?
If good analogies were Corn Flakes, The SDMB would be General Mills.
But in this case it’s more like the OP disagreed with a store manager’s decision to allow the canned soups to remain in the same aisle as, uh, microwave popcorn. So they decided it would make sense to begin moving bottles of Mountain Dew to the same aisle. Store staff intervened, and put the Mountain Dew back, but left the popcorn. Clearly you can see the distinction here.
I’m really not trying to be diifficult, I’m having fun with these analogies and I think they do help us understand each other better.
But if you modified yours to include the fact that you had a disagreement with the salad dressing the night before and changed the corn flakes box to a corn flakes cereal bar box instead, it would be more how i see it.

You say you are not disputing the threads being moved; the difference between your Noah thread and the Videotaping Cops thread has been explained more than once; you haven’t received as much as a mod note, much less a warning, so what is the problem?
