I’m torn, because a 3-0 comeback is exciting, and I really don’t want the Panthers to win. And I have nothing against Canada.
But the fact that Canada has won both the World Series and an NBA championship since their last Stanley Cup is just such a satisfyingly incongruent fact.
I have seen Roberto Luongo in the background of shots that show the Panthers management team. It appears Louie brought the Curse of the Blue Uniforms with him from Vancouver and the Panthers now have it.
I’ve seen Facebook memes tongue-in-cheek blaming Gary Bettman for Canada’s winless streak when Canada dominated the Stanley Cups by about 60-70% of the time prior to Bettman taking control in 1993.
Ladies and gentlemen, three hours to go for Game 7. Pizza and finger foods are ready to go. Wine is ready to go (we don’t do beer here any more unless my son is here). Makings of Caesars and vodka martinis are ready to go. In short, we’re ready! 8:00 PM EDT.
Good point! A few Bloody Marys (yeah, yeah, I know) to go with the game sound like a good idea.
Looking forward to the game. I’ve never really been an Edmonton fan, in spite of living there during their 2006 Cup drive, but I would like to see the Stanley Cup return to Canada. Go Edmonton!
I paid $20 for a month of sportsnet just to watch tonight’s game! I’ll be wearing my 2014 draft pick shirt that Draisaitl signed just before he signed his new contract. I was there as a vip guest of the Oilers. My friend won the trip and took me along as her +1. I’m hoping that shirt goes up in value tonight!
I’m still rooting against Edmonton for all the wrong reasons. But if they win, the team with best logo (maybe the best logo in the NHL) will certainly have won.
All tuned in and catching a bit of the pre-game show. The game may be in Florida, but Oilers fans in Edmonton have been arriving at their “mosh pit” at Rogers Place all day. I was in Edmonton, staying down near there, during Game 1. That was crazy enough; glad I’m nowhere near there now.
If Edmonton pulls this off, it will be the fifth time an NHL team has come back from 3-0 down, and the sixth that any team has done so in a North American major sport.
The pick has probably been dropped. I’m not going to tune in for another 60-75 minutes, so I can FF through commercials and the between period breaks — or whatever you hockey guys call those. I’m just learning this game.
