Pulling the goalie is always a BIG gamble. Sure, you get the man advantage offensively, but so many times the other team gets a chance at an empty-netter. That’s how Skinner got an assist in game 6.
I think the coach shortened the bench too early and too much in the third period. Usually, you save the big guns for the last couple of minutes when you pull the goalie, and not work them to exhaustion for the final ten minutes of the period.
I’ve never seen a more tired bunch after the goalie was pulled, even after the time out.
I’m certainly not well-versed in the nuances of hockey, but I thought the same thing. Even the announcers were commenting on how tired the Oilers looked down the stretch. He finally called a time-out with about 90 seconds left, when I thought he should have called it with 4 minutes to go, especially if he was going to keep his front liners on the ice down the stretch. And they only got one shot off in those last 90 seconds.
Wrong thread.
The Oilers did a good job of piling on the pressure in the last five minutes until pulling the goalie with about a minute or two left. But they needed fresher legs earlier. Bobrovsky made a lot of critical saves in the third period.
Didn’t we put this misperception to rest earlier in the thread? ![]()
Anyway, while I wanted to the Oils to win, the last image on the screen before I turned it off was Maurice in a group hug with his AC’s, and was content enough with that.
The rumor right now is he had been playing with a broken rib since Game 1 against Vancouver. And later, the Oilers posted a video of him and it inadvertently showed him with one of his fingers in a splint or a brace. When people started commenting on it, the Oilers removed the post.
So, he could have been dealing with a broken rib and broken finger.
McDavid was playing injured as well and is scheduled for surgery this summer.
aaaaaa all these Bobby Baun wannabees.
JUST KIDDING.
Interesting! I didn’t know that.
That sure would explain a lot.
But at this point in the season, everyone is nursing injuries and ailments of some sort.
Kris Knoblauch at a press conference today when asked about injuries:
“Leon, battling things throughout the playoffs. Ribs, hands, throughout the playoffs. Certain times it was worse than others but you know there’s games where I wasn’t sure he was gonna play, but he fought through it and played very well in those games.”
About McDavid’s injuries, he said he wasn’t sure how bad it was or what the process would be, re: surgery, then deferred answering specific questions.
